What is naval range? I am trying to colonize Africa in my Sweden game but it says I don't have the necessary naval range to do so? I am assuming I improve this by building naval bases closer and researching the naval plans and statistics category.

Naval range increases with Increasing Naval Bases.

To find out your range, click on a fleet ... then hover a pointer over a sea zone, and it'll tell you if you are in range.

Just as an aside, note that the Computer Opponents do not have to abide by Naval Range, and are practically free to sail around the globe without taking any attrition.

Its purely the size of the naval base that counts for colonising. The tech is only relevant for fleet attrition range. Build the biggest naval base you can in the closest province you have. (and you probably need to have started building it many years ago)

Is there any point in upgrading factories if there is no unemployment? I have many factories but they don't have any of the white men filled up. Should I upgrade?

If you can afford it, sure. There's not really a downside to having upgraded factories -- I don't think maintenance costs go up with higher levels, although I could be wrong.

Is there a way to turn down assimilation rates (vanilla, no AHD)? I dismantled the AH empire but Hungary and Croatia are filled with nearly nothing but south germans...

Also, how is the upper house determined on "appointed". I keep getting 75%+ socialists but I hardly have any socialists in my country at all.

playing ahd latest patch

Whats the best/easiest way to get some Yankee's to move to China? I've conquered most of China, but alas, no yankees. I tried promoting immigration, and I've tried endlessly (promoting liberal) to get the republican party back into favor (for the full citizenship), but ever since the communist/socialist rose up its been the conservatives winning all the elections.

Japan and Russia have both been helping me carve them out, both have Chinese lands, and both have managed to get their respective cultures to move there, so I'm obviously missing something, I think.

Some of this is weird, I got the Panama Canal, and a bunch of Yankees moved there with no provocation, and it is actually a state, along with the Yukon territory which I nabbed from GB before they could get to it.

Same thing though with Oceania, Vietnam, Cambodia ect... no Yankees so no assimilation :(

North America and South America have a huge bonus to immigration. It's nigh-impossible to get people to leave them.

Is there a way to become more efficient in terms of either creating CBs fast, hiding that you're making CBs or burning off infamy? I really want to finish off my Siamese conquests, but the infamy is holding me off.

What are the advantages of turning a colony into a state?

Can someone remind me please, how can I do social reforms? I have high militancy, a liberal upper house which isn't appointed (two per state, iirc). I can do all the political reforms I want, but no social.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Edit: I have landed voting only - I don't want the blasted liberlas getting into power and destroying my industial base - I'm not sure if this matters.

You need more socialists and communists to pass social reforms.

Playing as Two Sicilies here, 2.31 patch, AHD.

All my factories seem to go bankrupt all the time, and my country isn't competitive manufacturing anything.

Sometimes this seems to be a problem with supplies (due to low prestige), but when I punch in the cheat to raise my prestige to #1 I still have problems with my factories going broke nearly constantly.

What am I doing wrong?

I've tried all the government types from liberal to conservative, to reactionary, and my tariff rate is set at 0. At various times I've had taxes at max and min for all groups.

Thanks!

Try cheating your prestige up more. I think its overall rank that counts for ability to purchase, not prestige. Give yourself enough prestige to make you top GP and you should be able to purchase everything that is on the market.

However, your overall problem is likely that artisans are more efficient than your factories. You need a decent amount of tech boosts to factories to make them competitive with artisans in AHD. It will take you a lot of teching before you are in a position to have much in the way of industry.

yea its tough... I'm actually playing the same game, same version and all currently...

I've had a couple nice factories so far, mainly a luxury clothes factory and a canned goods factory, but both might be because I'm yielding a fairly big military and it demands many canned goods ect. Also look at your trade tab, what does your government require, what do your citizens require, what do you have the resources to produce..? Do you need to sphere more, or possibly improve your RGO output? ect. ect. thinking about these things will help your industry
