Why in some provinces the people who are supposed to emigrate to another province appear as immigrants in the very same province? For example, in a given province you can see: -300 Internal Emigration +300 Immigration. Is this WAD or bug?

The province they wanted to go to was not available for some reason so they stay home instead.

Whether its completely WAD I am not sure, but they used to disappear completely (abducted by aliens) so its not nearly as bad as it used to be.

Hey guys, two questions:
1. Why is my CON shooting up near 10 as Prussia, first ten years of game, without even being at war? Is there any way to stem the tide of +CON events or do I just have to endure it?

2. How to prevent immigration from Europe in the short run? Both in my France and my Prussia game I've been steadily losing population at the start of the game. Do I need to pump CON high and get political reforms?

1. The liberal revolution. You have to wait it out, or give all your population the vote to get it over faster.

2. Keep CON low. Which you wont be able to do till the liberal revolution is over, except by keeping granting reforms.

Every time I play Prussia, I can only get Landed Voting through before the Springtime fizzles out.

In the case of Prussia, it seems to me that reforms are the only viable way to keep CON low thanks to your high-from-day-one literacy... and I've never had much success passing reforms in Prussia before the Socialists show up.

Hey guys, good thread learned a lot, which I had read before, Id like to clarify a few things, but first some background on the game in Ver 1.2

Currently playing as Spain it is 1856. Consolidated my forces, destroyed the rebels, whipped and sphered Haiti for the prestige, same with Colombia.(Which was before I learned I cant attack sphered nations - should have read this thread before) Ive turned Cuba into a province as well as have annexed Panama and Suez for clear reasons. I also have Portugal, Two Sicilies, Brazil and USCA as spheres. Currently 6th GP.

I looked at the situation and it seemed like America was a natural rival in a battle between Anglo NA and Latin America. I've gotten most of the Americas under or going to be under my influence and I suspect if all continues by the mid 1860s I should have total diplomatic dominance over that part of the region. It appears the other GPS have allowed us full autonomy in that part of the world.

When the CSA was launched in 1855, I decided to fund their war, but with only two brigades they got slapped down and the Union made massive strides early (Eds.... please give the CSA more armies, I know they are supposed to lose, but come on now, 2 Brigades?). I was unable to wait until my status was at friendly for us to intervene nor could I wait any longer as the US main army started to grow rather quickly.

With their war going poorly, a sleeping US about to become an industrial and military giant, I decided to launch a war to humilate the US, tie down their forces and give the CSA a chance. Ive blockaded their ports, occupied Long Island and drew their Armies away from the south (which in a year still hasnt made another brigade even with my funding.) Britain, who I have carefully cultivated (along with Russia and France) as friendly GPs, granted Spain military access.

At this juncture, Im certain I wont be able to destroy their armies. I will need to grab land, keep their armies moving and get them to attack us in points of our choosing such as digigng in and using rivers as defence (Hello the Spirit of General Lee). There has been several battles and despite having 3 more bridages in their army, we've beaten them rather soundly causing their armies to retreat. Nonetheless, they obviously replenish their stores and keep coming back the next turn. With casualties and attrition becoming a problem the move now is to draw them farther North and use my access to British Canada to keep their army away from the CSA until they hopefully get another army to regain their lost lands. I've got a 4 brigades from the Army of Suez en route, but they really wont be much of a game changer.

The questions I have are:

What is the best way to grow my the number of Brigades? One to sustain over the long term, the other the quickest way to get there.

Ive got Cuba producing soldiers (the other NF is craftsmen in Spain to keep improving my industrial score, but when I restart tonight I suspect that will change to Soliders) but I need more and with a mil pop of 18, we will not be able to continue the war for long. I need I suspect a number of about 30+ and Id like to keep that number growing. Id like to be able to field a massive land army and seeing as I dont think we will be able to tech up quick enough Ill need numbers. Also, what is the best way to sustain and slowly grow my military population. I figured with all the illerate people in Spain they should be flocking to the the Army. I do not want to mobilize reserves, not before the US does as I hope they dont, I dont think we could compete.

Ive got my taxes at 80/80/50 ( in peace time I had them at 70/70/50 ), tariffs at 25% (peace time at 0%), the stockpile etc are all at 100%. Ive got about 90.5k in the bank and am just breaking even.

Second question, do blockades weaken the US economy? Aside from adding to my war score, how much do the blockades hurt the US?

Third, even though the CSA and I are both are war with the US, it is not the 'same' war. Will my forces be able to liberate CSA lands?

Fourth and somewhat unrelated, Ive read here and there about Ibernian Union, is this able to happen or just fanciful discussion and a theoretical thing people do as a "goal". I'm hoping for a final clarficiation on that.

Thank you and sorry for any redundancies.

1 High rates of military pay and soldier NF
2 They increase its war exhaustion, which will eventually hurt it badly. You should always blockade everything if you can just for the WE increase even if the WS isn't doing much for you.
3 If you get MA from the CSA then you will be able to go into its territory and return USA occupied provinces to the rebs.

I have a question.

Why do battles have such a MASSIVE affect on the way a war is going?

I'm playing as a modern china, at war with UK and Russia. I need 10 pts to get my goal and get peace, I have about 6. I fight a big battle with england, their number is about 180, mine was a bit less and no arty, they beat it, suddenly the score goes from 6 to -2, I loose another small battle and it drops to -8... I'm holding huge swaths of russia yet they only give .01% but a battle takes away 8... it is quite frustrating.

I think the game is wonderful. There's just one question I have. Why is it that Paradox chose to label the Austrians as "South Germans" but didn't do the same for the Swiss? In the VIP in the first Victoria the Swiss were divided into German, Italian and French Swiss, instead of just all "100% Swiss" which I think is just silly. Is there any mod that changes the Swiss pops into something more realistic?

Large amounts of brigades involved give bigger score, and most of the russian provinces near china are pretty bad which is why they dont get much WS

Swiss is differentiated from South German so that Switzerland can't be integrated into Germany.

I'm not very knowledgeable on Swiss cultural identity, but I'd also wager that their national and cultural identity developed during this time since Switzerland became truly centralized and independent from French and German politics.

Well yes of course. But in VIP they divided the Swiss into Svizzera (Italian speaking), Suisse (French speaking), and Schweizer (German speaking). There's no such thing as the "Swiss" language or ethnicity. I assumed it was for gameplay purposes to prevent Switzerland from being absorbed by Germany, Italy, or France, but I the method used in VIP still prevented that while accurately reflecting the divided nature of the Swiss Confederation. I had just hoped somebody had done something similar in Vicky 2.

Good stuff.

Portugal and Two Sicilies arrived, the USA capitulated to the CSA and to our humilation war. I suspect it was the war exhaustion which hit them and Mexico backing out of the war. The US now, having lost the Mexico-Texas war, the Civil War and the War of Humilation, have gotten beat down. They are putting a full diplomatic press on the CSA now.

Few more q's...

Can the US annex the CSA diplomatically?

What impact do Slaves have on the economy and larger game?

1 No, but nationalist rebels in the CSA can defect to the US
2 They are a minor drag on the economy and allowing slavery can be a cause of significant unrest. Mechanically it is always bad to have slaves, though unless your population is actually rioting over the issue, it doesn't make that much difference.

Thanks for the help.

Following up on Q2, does that mean there is little impact on having them as a economic producer? Do they work on the RGOs? What happens to them if I abolish slavery? Tons of unemployment, social unrest etc? Right now only about 10-12% of the population wants slavery to end and none of the political parties are interested, so it hasnt been a big factor and I kept it as part of the mental roleplay Ive been enjoying rewriting history.

I also have a question, one I'm asking merely as a fellow poster. Do you enjoy this game at all?

How do I annex diplomatically a country of my sphere of influence?

Sadly, you don't, unless it's as the result of forming another country (NGF, SGF, Italy, etc.)

They work in RGOs and turn into farmers if you abolish slavery. Farmers can then be turned into craftsmen, clergy, soldiers etc. while slaves stay slaves. Slaves also get much lower rates of natural increase so as your population doesn't increase as fast. I don't think its a problem for a player, but I've seen AI CSA disintegrate due to rebels who wanted slavery abolished and I think thats quite a likely occurence if the CSA survives the first couple of wars without being annexed.

A quick question re diplomatic relations. I am (now) a civilized country. I have 170 rating with Great Britain but according to their diplo page they do not even have cordial relations with me. I had the same with the US, built up relations to 190 and still my flag was not showing on their page. Meant they kept siding with Chile despite me buiilding good relations over 10 years with them.

GP influence and relations are seperate.

Where are the files for accepted cultures?
