I'm pretty sure some philosopher during this era named Brazil as one of two rising new world superpowers alongside America. I was just thinking that eventually, if Paradox should so choose, they should give Brazil some love with a few more decisions.

Well it didn't really quite happen that way, did it? :)

Of course who would ever disagree with adding more decisions and flavor to the game.
That said the thing I really think needs to be thought about regarding Brazil (and other countries) is how HM governments are at a disadvantage to attract immigrants. Brazil along with other American countries is a prime target for immigrants, even though that effect needs to get the nerf bat.

The worse part is no matter what you do it is not possible to make your country a democracy unless you go through revolutions. Ironicaly Brazil is one of the few countries in the world that didn't have any revolutions for it's independency or to overthrow the monarchy. We just walked into their office while they were drunk and shipped them to Paris.

Isn't it more like Don Pedro gave Brazil to his infant son to rule because at the time Portugal was a richer country to rule?

No no no...it's a long story. If you really want to know you are probably going to have to hit some books. :)

In short, the Portuguese crown fled from Europe to escape Napoleon. After Napoleon was defeated for a time the court stayed in Brazil and that, as you might imagine, created tensions with the Portuguese aristocracy so D. João VI returned to Portugal but his son D. Pedro I and most of the court stayed here.

As the political pressure increased in Portugal D. João called his son back. He didn't go. He decided to stay and declare the country independent with very little popular support but with enough support from the higher classes that grew tired of taxes and had gotten used to Brazil being the center of the Portuguese Empire, which it was during the period that the King lived in Rio.

If that wasn't weird enough when D. João died the portuguese courts called D. Pedro to take over his father throne so he went and became D. Pedro IV King of Portugal, leaving his son to be the King (well Emperor) of Brazil but still without any other ties to Portugal.
