Hello everyone, I've been playing Europa Universals for about a year but I just recently started playing Victoria. When I first got the game I was excited that I finally would be able to play as the U.S. (without being cut off after 40 years like in EU) but then I discovered I could play as Texas which I thought would be way more fun. Choosing a country like Texas probably wasn't the best idea for someone trying to learn the game with their first country but I think I did ok so without further ado here is my AAR.
I'm not going to lie, at the start I did reload a couple of times during the start, sometimes because I didn't know what I was doing, others because I did something stupid and you can't afford to make any mistakes when you start out at war with Mexico. I didn't take screen shots during the first part of the war since I didn't plan on making this AAR but I do start taking them once I start to get a glimmer of hope.
Chapter 1: FREEEEEDOMMMMM!
So as Texas you start off in a war with Mexico and you have 4 provinces with 2 brigades and 6,000 troops. On the other hand Mexico has a boat load of provinces and brigades. They like to tease you into thinking you have a chance by only attacking you with 3 brigades at first but then they quickly call in reinforcements to crush you with a total of 7-9 brigades. At first I tried the Alamo approach where I stood and fought (horrible idea) I did manage to win a battle against the first 3 brigades this way but once the Mexicans brought in the big guns I was dead. Then I tried to distract them by having one of my brigades hide out in the United States while the other brigade ran all the way clear to the southern part of Mexico where they would try and take a region and then retreat into the united states of central America. I figured this would make the Mexicans chase that brigade to Southern Mexico and leave Texas alone, well the Mexicans caught up with him and I just ended up losing both brigades.
I pretty much realized that there was no way I was going to win this war without the help of the United States and on my third attempt of playing as Texas I was able to draw them into the war. The United States has a pretty decent army with about 12 brigades maybe at the start, unfortunately the American AI is kinda dumb and in the first two attempts with them as an ally they always sent about 20k troops to fight the Mexicans in Texas (who numbered about 24K) and another 20K just went wandering around up north. Now the troops they sent to Texas almost always got wiped out pretty quick and I was frustrated trying to figure out what they were doing with the other 20K up north until I realized they were headed west to attack Mexican held utah-nevada. After learning this I decided that instead of helping the army they sent to Texas I would help the army that went to Utah, but by the time I reached Oklahoma City, I noticed the Americans weren't pursuing the Mexicans in a hopeless battle like normal. The Mexicans then headed north west to fight the other American army and this opened the doors for my 2 brigades and the Southern American army to retake Lubbock and take El Paso from the Mexicans. I decide to go for El Paso first and the Americans follow me, the Mexicans soon catch wind of this though and they send an army to knock us out of El Paso. They had us outgunned about 2 to 1 but somehow we manage to beat them back, this is my favorite screen shot in the AAR.
Here they come back for round 2 once again in El Paso (I like this region)
After that they retreated into Austin which I later forced them out of without a fight. I then decided to take a look at how the American army was doing up north. Then I had one last encounter with the Mexicans in Lubbock.
After all this I began to wonder where is Santa Anna, the general and dictator of Mexico who led the Mexican armies during the real life Texan revolution? Well turns out he was leading the Mexican armies on the northern front so I didn't get the pleasure of defeating him, although I did get a picture of his last stand in Wyoming.
I didn't get a notification about it since the United States had leadership in the war but soon after that the United States and Mexico agreed to a white peace meaning TEXAS IS INDEPENDENT! I couldn't get a screen shot though since I didn't even notice the war was over until it was too late to get a screen shot of anything. Now with my country independent it was time for me to learn the basics of the economic system in victoria.
