"The Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win."

A World To Win:

download down again for routine maintenance.

The Premise:

From roughly 1918-23 a series of violent revolutions shook Europe. Germany, Hungary, Italy-all ended in the creation of so called socialist states dedicated to ending capitalism and destroying the Bourgeoisie once and for all.

By 1936, the situation in Europe was looking tense. the Third Reich, created out of Bavaria and a merger with Austria, who's leader Adolf Hitler vowed to 'liberate northern Germany', had formed an alliance with fascist France and Britain that was dedicated to ending socialism in Europe through force.

Elsewhere in the world, FDR grappled with holding his divided nation together. Having recently broken off from the Union, the American Commune vowed to finish what They started, and with soviet aid, bring an end to capitalism in America. The world watched as a third American civil war broke out...

In China Mao and his communists are locked in seemingly never ending combat with the Nationalists, who rule most of China. Further south, the Philippines is experiencing a revolution of its own as America falls apart, the local communists seeking to end their puppet status and subservience to America.

In Indochina, the people are ruthlessly exploited by their fascist French masters. A determined Ho Chi Minh, with blessings from Moscow, has vowed to one day return to his homeland and free his people.

This is a world of class war, a world at war. But to the communists, there is a better world to win.

Now this is an interesting project!

Just a suggestion: An Entente controlled German puppet, occupying Saar, Rhineland, Württenberg and Cologne (simular og , Let's say the Entente and League of Nations tried to stop the Bolsheviks, but ending up spiltting up Weimar Germany, making the devided country to become the future WW2 battlefield? :)

Interesting mod here. Though I don't think SSR is the appropriate term for an independent communist Germany etc. If they were controlled by the Soviet Union it would make sense but in that case SOV should just control the land. If the western communist states are just allied with the USSR they should have unique or at least different names like German Socialist Republic etc. Also I was hoping you might let me make some alternate history flags for the new countries? :)

I really need some flags for all of those "SSR" nations. I suck at graphics. Could you also make some SKINS for them as well?

heres my attempted SKIN for Hungary:

the background, although "Simple", is the flag of the Hungarian Soviet Republic.

Oh ya, forgot to mention. The USA(Called the United Socialist States of America or USSA in the Mod) had a communist revolution in the early half of the 1930's so is a 'young soviet republic'. The revolution spread to Canada, thus enlarging the former United States. Events will deal with Canadian nationalism(the revolution was not their choice) and insurrection, forced collectivization, politics of the USSA, holidays(May Day, Hay market Affair etc.) in the USSa, etc.

The idea springs from this: http://www.marxists.org/archive/trotsky/1934/08/ame.htm its an interesting read By Leon Trotsky.

Maybe it could more interesting to have Trotsky historically exiled in Mexico (and stalin in moscow), but boosted by the revolutionary momentum of europe and have acheived revolt in Mexico. Perhaps his next move would be to link up with American groups and revolt that country during the game period. The USA story could happen like you said in last post or fail with a counter revolution and so a civil war (perhaps triggering a world crusade against communism).

what I want to happen is this(but its not final): First of all, I'll probally make the USSA Left-Wing Radical(in keeping with Trotsky's article, American Communism will be much more democratic and proletarian, with democratic control of production, soviets, maybe even multiple parties, who knows?)

Trotsky, his image boosted by the successful revolutions in Europe and America, will be able to(through Mexican event chain) seize power in Mexico. He will then quickly form an alliance with the USSA, effectively making him a dangerous rival of Stalin. This Alliance in game(which serves as an "Axis" of sorts) will be called something along the lines of the North American Socialist Alliance etc. and will be a direct military and political rival to the more authoritarian, Stalinist Europe/Russia.

This could make for an interesting Cold War Period. I could make a cool battle scenario where Russia invades the NASA(what a coincidence!) amphibiously in the '50
s after a successful World War against the Allies.

too many? Don't you think Kaiserreich has too many syndicalist nations?

but seriously, It's all rooted deep in history. Germany, Austria, and Italy could indeed have become socialist. Allow me to explain.

the Free Socialist Republic of Germany is formed amid a successful and popular revolution in Germany.

Austria soon follows suit.

Gramscii's Italian workers councils in the factories soon spread nation wide, allowing for the creation of a more decentralized, democratic socialist state in Italy.

In the Alt. History the Romanian push towards Budapest in 1919 was a failure. Soviet successes in the Ukraine allowed Soviet forces to link up with Bela Kun's Red Army by invading and occupying Romania.

Hungary then continued to push deeper into Slovakia, and in the ensuing peace treaty with Czechoslovakia(Czech Republic in mod) was rewarded all of Slovakia.

Poland is occupied by the USSR in 1921 during the Polish-Soviet War.

And as for America, the effects of the Great Depression coupled with the spirit of violent revolution led to the workers overthrowing the American bourgeoisie in the early 1930's(before '36), and a subsequent spread of the revolution to Canada, whose nation was largely forced to 'join the revolution' after it was invaded by the American Red Army. Like Italy, only more so, America differed from the USSR/most Socialist states in Europe in that the proletariat control the industry(ie instead of nationalization, there is workers control of industry) and the soviets(councils) are a major player in USSA politics. because America did not have to grapple with foreign intervention backwards industry, society, etc., democracy would flourish.

This puts the USSA directly at odds with Stalinist Russia/Europe, which has barred the USSA from joining the Comintern when it became apparent that the USSA was aiding Trotsky in Mexico. Thus Trotsky is not assassinated in 1940 like in OTL(our time line) and becomes a major figure in world politics, living well into the 50's and '60s(he'd be in his 80's, as he was murdered by Stalin's thugs in his 60's).

It would be interesting to see two Communist blocs, a Soviet Comintern and a Trotskyist Fourth International. It would also be interesting to have some sort of Axis-type bloc. Maybe a Greater East-Asian Co-Prosperity sphere?

Interesting timeline, it looks quite good. I'm curious to know if all of the communist countries will start in the comintern and also who will be allies as the comintern looks to be incredibly strong from day 1. Also do you plan to have any fascist countries even if they don't have a faction? Or perhaps it might be interesting just for a change to make the USA fascist and mexico/canada communist or something instead. That or leave the USA communist and possibly united with Canada but have an independent southern state (CSA if you like) just to mix things up. I understand that you want a lot of communist successes in ATL, but it might be a good idea to leave some room for the communists to actually 'win the world'. :p

fascism died with the communist revolutions. No fascist nations for Europe. As for a fascist America. one word: overdone and dumb.

The "Axis" alliance will consist of Mexico and the USSA, as well as some other central/south American nations and will oppose Stalin's Comintern. Possibly the Fourth International Nations will form a military pact with the Allied Nations. America will use its industrial might/military to fight Red Russia in Europe.

That doesn't make any sense, one of the driving forces behind the rise of fascism was anti-communism. I think it would be more believable that some democratic nations in OTL turn to nationalism, militarism, and fascism as a reaction to the increased threat (from their pov) posed by communism. With so many more communist nations the remaining democratic nations would probably be extremely worried.

Edit: If Canada is part of a communist America, and Germany is now communist and friendly with a powerful USSR, I think that would be enough to agitate the UK into some reactionary or nationalistic state.

Whats the situation with Japan, Austrialia and China? Maybe they could form a 'Pacific Defence Bloc' to try and counter a military action from the USSA and Mexico?

Just to point out, it doesn't make sense for Germany to lose that much land to Poland. The Polish Corridor was given to Poland by the allies, but with a Soviet Poland and a Communist Germany, they'd probably draw the border differently.

It kinda depends what happened in your alt-history though - if the 1918 German revolution was 100% successful and Germany and the SU gang-banged Poland, Germany should probably either keep it's pre-ww1 borders or cede only the most heavily polish areas to the soviet union.

also: it'd make sense for Austria to join Germany, the Soviet Union was all about national or ethnic blocs - if Yugoslavia can rationally exist as a communist nation, so can a greater Germany. (and thinking back to 1848, the notion of a totally united Germany was originally a radical one - it was the existing power structures and empires drawn on top that prevented that: with Austria-Hungary gone and communists who couldn't give a damn about Versailles in charge there's no reason for it not to happen. - or at least a communist anschluss could be part of the lead up to war.

I am intrigued by the premise of this mod.
Can you tell us more about the situation in the far East,Balkans and Indo-China?
Also like T.j. Arnold nicely stated, how will the Allies ever hope to win in such a dire situation?
