Hey broth

I really like your mod. It is so great, however there is some trouble. In 1896 France declared a Great War on me (German Empire) and I do not know how they did. I can handle them (infact the war score is -28 for them now, haha) but i think i may have a glitch? i want to take over france or at least make them lose their colonies, but since it isn't 1900 for me, i can't add a great war war goal even though they had it against me. can you help me with this error?

also, another note - i have fought with italy, austria, the us, russia in this great war france declared on me, and after about 2 ingame years, they left the war. is this because they have yet to discover great war? or is there another glitch? thank you so much

Did you more than double the infamy limit? If so (and you received the International Pariah modifier), then what you're dealing with is an Infamy War... that activates the Great War functionality even if Mass Politics hasn't been invented yet. They will get the CB against you, but not you against them... not until you research Mass Politics, anyhow.

Define "left the war". I don't know what you mean by that.

I don't think they would declare a regular infamy war on me. My infamy has been in the high hundreds (maybe thousands) for the past 20-25 ingame years and after the British tried a containment war and I took South Africa from them everyone stopped trying to contain me. But are you saying this mod allowed them to declare a war on me like that? I did get the popup ingame saying that France has declared a great war and you have the option of fighting or giving up all your colonies and your empire upon their declaration of war.

Yes, that would be the Infamy War events-- a great power will make an ultimatum, and you can either surrender (and be automatically dismantled) or fight it... at which point you may have other GP's joining in the resulting war. It's separate from the regular containment CB.

I think I am having trouble explaining this. My allies signed a peace treaty, but I remained in the war alone with my puppets. Do you follow me?

That depends. You'd need to enforce a Great War CB or Cut Down to Size CB on them in order for them to dismantle... and you have to be careful, as there's a vanilla bug which can prevent the CB from being properly enforced. If you or your target are still at war with a third country when the CB is enforced, it will invalidate itself.

Yeah-- if you're still at war with other countries when you make peace with Spain then Spain won't be dismantled (not unless you've occupied its capital and at least half its territory, which forces the "Total Collapse" event and will make them dismantle no matter what CB's are enforced). Like I said, that bug with the "disarmed" peace option isn't something I can do anything about as it's a vanilla issue.

In my current game I went over 25 infamy and nothing happened, it wasn't until sometime later when I kept increasing infamy that I received it. Not exactly sure what my infamy was at that time but I believe it was around 100.

If it's higher than 25 it would be good to know what it is so I can try to stay below it (when possible).

I've discovered a problem in downloading Great War. I've backed up my files, so no worries. However, while it appears I can ultimately still declare a Great War, the declare war screen is screwed up with what looks random baggage from text files. All of the conventional CBs are now infamy-free as well, and bugged; Russia has nobody in its SOI, but you can still use 'Take from Sphere of Influence'. I suspect its due to my numerous other mods (see below) impacting GW's operation.

Using PDM Graphics, alternative state names - both downloads - and very minor self-made province mods (i.e. remove French cores on Alsace-Lorraine).

EDIT: Going to copy GW into my non-edited V2 folder, followed by the other mods to see if it works.

The problem is that you are either using the 1.6 version of Great Wars without the latest 1.4 beta or you are using the 1.5 version of Great Wars with the latest 1.4 beta. The latest 1.4 beta changes the way that CB's are applied, so if you use it incorrectly you get gibberish in the wargoals list.

A short question. I fought a GW with France, Belgium and Ottomans (and a bunch of minors). And upon peace treaty both France and Belgium were dismantled, but not the OE. Does dismantling apply only to GP and their puppets then (and that's what all those cheap liberation CB are for) or is there something else I've missed?

And one more thing. Is sharing puppets and colonies random? Or maybe a system of some sort is involved? Several examples:
- Russia lost a GW, and a released Ukraine becomes a satellite of Germany, not of the warleader and neighbor Austria.
- Spanish Mongolia and German bits of Kazakhstan/Turkmenistan were... very cute in their randomness. Sure, the Germans got goats and oil. But with absolutely no way to deliver reinforcements to defend from rebels, the acquisitions looks to be a little bit overopportunistic.
- French Africa lost all the access to shorelines after the colonial grab, and after a couple of months most of their inner territories got annexed to Occitania (the fascist south actually sits above France now, with the latter about to fall from GPs in 3 months; welcome to the 20th century :') ) and Germany too. What exactly happened there?

On the whole though the experience (i.e. the mod) is absolutely breathtaking. My first GW was so beautiful in the way it began. Prussia finally falls from Great Powers in 1905, and while Germany is grabbing minors via pan-nationalists and restoration of order, after decades of socialist rule Austria finally gets conservatives in power, and so I figure its about time to launch a short victorious war to round-off my possessions in the Habsburg Westfalen and maybe grab some Posen along the way (they had a radio factory, which I didn't even with the tech being there for almost 10 years! ). They have no notable allies, the war is about to be over - and BANG! Russia intervenes, demanding status quo. Le Blob ( ->Occitania), Italy ( ->Lombardia/Venetia) and Ottomans (lost all but Thrace after that congress) decide to jump in. At which point I'm left with no option but to call upon Occitania, Switzerland, Belgium and Germany and to mobilize. So... believable and reminiscent. Acquisition of Piedmont along with a puppets barrier versus Russia were decent rewards for 4 years of warfare. Upon dismantling, all of Prussia but Berlin went to Germany... which granted it a rather peculiar shape of being set to penetrate Russia... Also, no wonder conservatives were never ever close on getting the majority from then on. X-)

But. The above is a rather nasty scenario because of the Status Quo CB used by Russia to intervene. It meant that I couldn't add any war goals for separate treaties.

You need to be careful about a vanilla bug involving the "disarm" effect of several wargoals (Cut Down to Size, Containment and Great War): if you or the target is still at war with another country when peace is made, the disarm part of the effect won't stick. Since disarmed status is what the treaty event looks for, the bug means it might not fire.

It could still fire... if you occupy a country's capital and at least half their territory, they will get the "All is Lost" event after several days, after which they will still fire the treaty no matter what happens in the end. But, failing that, you need to watch for the bug.

Yes, this will happen if Germany is on the winning side against Russia. I can't detect who the warleader is, so the treaty event just looks specifically for this case.

It can vary, though I've seen some reports that say the Central Asia area has something weird-- normally the coastal provinces are all handed out first, and then interior states are doled out to any countries that border them. So you shouldn't be seeing anyone getting interior provinces with no access to water. Yet I've seen it happen in that area. Not sure why (as the effect specifically uses "port = yes" and not "is_coastal = yes", as the latter is true even around the Caspian Sea and so forth).

Like I said, coastal provinces are doled out by the treaty and the rest of their colonies in the year that follows. It's the only way the colonial disbursement can look like anything that isn't ridiculous when dealing with a lot of territory.

I figured out the issue with Ottomania. Turns out, almost all of their non-TUR cores belong to uncivilized nations. So maybe the empire deserves its own dedicated dissolution scenario?
