    I see.

I guess I'll remove the unit, but I'm okay with that.

Yeah, France holds out well unlike Central Europe. This is good, IMO.

I laughed to myself when I opened the files Kale sent me. They were dated May 18th while it's only the 17th here. I got a download from the future.

    Double post.

Kale, here are my thoughts on what you posted.

Ironically, I also created a country with the tag "ZOM" named Zombieland. However, I used it as a placeholder so that I could create terra nullius. I don't plan on using its cores for events, but it's an interesting idea. For now I'm leaving it out until its further fleshed out.

Your province to province spread is brilliant and I will definitely use it.

Also, province events don't get pictures. Likewise, the "is_overseas" tag doesn't actually exist. I forgot to remove it before I released the mod.

I absolutely love the terrain factors and didn't know they existed. I rearranged them slightly based on supply cost in terrain.txt and gave farmland, plains, and hills an increased chance at getting the province event (to simulate high population densities). I removed the government sanitarium modifier since no province should have this event in 1836. I absolutely love the military spending and crime fighting modifiers, and I wanted to implement the country units idea but wasn't sure how.

I made a compromise on whether the outbreak event should fire a country event or a province event. I wanted the country event because the event text has a lot of flavor that won't fit anywhere else, so this is what I did:
    • The outbreak event triggers a country event.
    • This country event adds the country flag, increases CON, and adds a "Pandemonium" country modifier that lasts for six month; I'll play with this modifier so that governments will be pushed back a little and when it disappears, they will be able to rebound. It then triggers a province event in a province that is neither the capital nor colonial.
    • The province event is exactly yours, except with modifiers slightly reworked, and I removed the ZOM core until I figure things out with that (whether or not it's just extra baggage or not).

The China/Japan and Africa/Madagascar events are deviations of the country to country event.

I wholeheartedly approve of the adjusted trigger you made for the province victory event.

With your contributions, the major spread events will be done. I just need to do USA-Haiti, USA-Cuba, and Denmark-Iceland. And a coastal province to colony event.

Here's the changes I've made over the past few days combined with what you gave me. It's a zip with the text files attached below.

I added some new modifiers for isolationism, martial law, pandemonium, state of emergency, quarantine, and terra nullius. The latter is used in the rebel file and is extremely important for a zombie victory. Speaking of which, the zombie rebel victory has been overhauled so that every country capital (I went through them ALL) has to be terra nullius.

Terra nullius has been added in a random_list for the zombie's siege victory. To shake things up, there's a 10% chance that a province will become terra nullius and lose 80% of its population, a 20% chance that a province will lose 60% of its population, a 30% chance that it will lose 40% of its population, and a 40% chance that it will lose 20% of its population. I haven't added the terra nullius spread event yet (operates by expanding terra nullius into provinces that have the zombie_outbreak modifier and are neighboring terra nullius created by the zombies.

    Thanks a bunch.

Can you make it so that if the Zombies occupy a capital that it moves to like a colony or something

Are you sure about that? I'm using it in the Great War modding I'm doing right now... and it seems to be correctly identifying provinces that are on a different continent (as none of the country's home provinces are given away by the same event). Though maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know.

I used the ZOM nation tag to spread the virus (zombie_outbreak modifier) across terra nullius, so that for example the various non-bordering settled provinces across Africa could infect each other in a realistic manner. It was the only way I could figure out to spread a province modifier over provinces no nation owned.
There was another event which turned ZOM provinces back into terra nullius as the modifier spread, but that was causing random crashes so I commented that out and added an event which simply turns all ZOM provinces back into terra nullius 4 years after the initial outbreak.

Note that I haven't tested the Madagascar <-> Africa and Japan <-> China events I modified so they may not work.

The virus outbreak province_event in my system already sets a country flag. I would just need to add a country event which fires when a country has that flag (which would be when their first province is infected). That event could have the flavour text and picture and add the pandemonium modifier without affecting the realisitic province to province spread.

Does anybody know if any_neighboring_province or any similar scope will recognize sea provinces?

I played this mod into the wee hours yesterday. It's great fun.

Strangely your actually afraid of the zombies even as the mighty UK.

    South Africa:

"Ah, they're marching on my final stronghold"

"Thank god they're moving into the terra nullius"

"Let's try and retake the occupied provinces"

"This is going well. What's that in the distance"

    "ZOMBIES, RUN"

Also does anyone know how to block the strait between Ceylon and India?

this is probably a stupid question, but after you extract the mod, where do you put the files, i know the event modifiers and rebel types go in common, but where does the other file go?

It shouldn't be too hard, but I don't know how I could change it back without making the new capital a random core province.

I remembering seeing this in the immigration foci data but never used in events. The wiki has no information on it either. Your guess is as good as mine.

There was another event which turned ZOM provinces back into terra nullius as the modifier spread, but that was causing random crashes so I commented that out and added an event which simply turns all ZOM provinces back into terra nullius 4 years after the initial outbreak.
I don't think rebels will rise in terra nullius, so it might not matter. Unclaimed land is more isolated anyway, so it shouldn't be that important. However, you could create an event that adds the zombie_outbreak modifier to any unclaimed neighbor provinces to represent penetration into the unclaimed lands of Canada and Africa; it won't go into the heartland of Africa, but that's okay. There are certain places a little too remote IMO for the plague to spread unless a Great Power goes there.

Note that I haven't tested the Madagascar <-> Africa and Japan <-> China events I modified so they may not work.
The Japan <-> China events should definitely work. My original code wasn't changed too much, and I tested them before I released this. I'll see if the Madagascar one works as well.

The virus outbreak province_event in my system already sets a country flag. I would just need to add a country event which fires when a country has that flag (which would be when their first province is infected). That event could have the flavour text and picture and add the pandemonium modifier without affecting the realisitic province to province spread.
I fixed that so the country flag is set with the country event. The province to province spread still exists, just that there's a layer on top for country to country. Right now, the outbreak event fires the country which adds pandemonium and then fires the province event.

Incidentally, I added an event that adds a country flag and pandemonium if the country flag doesn't exist.

We both use the same events, just that the order is slightly different. Yours goes Outbreak -> Province -> Country whereas mine goes Outbreak -> Country -> Province. It doesn't really matter which is fired first since they are both triggered and therefore happen at the same time. I just prefer the country event to introduce the plague to the infected country (since the same events are also used for general spreading.)

I want to boost MttH for the country to country so it doesn't occur as quickly and keep the provincial events small. I may also want to boost the "country_units_in_province" modifier so that countries can hold back the plague a little longer with brute military force.

Does anybody know if any_neighboring_province or any similar scope will recognize sea provinces?
    I don't think so.

Park a ship there. It's a good strategy to use for UK-Ireland, Europe-Turkey, Japan and its islands, and places of that nature.

@Flame: Download the attachment on the first page and extract it directly into your Vicky 2 folder. The files will automatically go where they need to go. The files in my previous post are stuff that's being tested; still usable, but I wouldn't advise it.

@Ethan: I can't explain the cause of your crash. You may have a corrupt copy of the game; this mod doesn't affect the map.

It is primarily a way to realistically spread the infection from, for example, Ethiopia to South Africa province by province. What method does your system use to achieve that? It should also mean that colonising efforts will have the added challenge of having to deal with a zombified local population. It currently has a very large MTTH when spreading to uncolonised desert provinces, it may be a good idea to prevent it from spreading to uncolonised desert provinces at all.

Those map errors can be ignored, I'm pretty sure unmodded Victoria 2 has them as well and they don't cause any apparent ingame issues.

Edit: In APOCRevised.7z event 99003 is missing a bracket in the trigger section and event 99004 has an extra any_province = { line in the trigger section. You also have duplicated IDs of 99004 and 99007.

The first APOCRevised has the game freeze when its loading the events.

The second one (right above) has the game start but crashes it after a few days of play (as Japan at least).

Just did a separate test, setting all owned provinces to secede to another country with "is_overseas" as the only limit. It works. "is_overseas" is true for any province that is on another continent and not physically connected to the main country (so Anatolia and the Levant would not be overseas, as they're connected to Istanbul by land, but Libya and Cyprus would be... for the UK, Ireland and Gibraltar and Malta are not overseas, but everywhere else is).

Hm, I don't know if unclaimed land should have major outbreaks. The reason they're unclaimed is usually because a) they're isolated, b) they're sparsely populated, c) dangerous, or d) a combination of the above.

Ethiopia to South Africa, for example, wouldn't be optimal, since there were no real land routes between them.

And thanks. It was a tad late last night, so I didn't get to validate and/or test my events.

I'm okay with this. I'll readd this.

Also, I don't recommend downloading and playing anything but the releases I put on the first page. They're bound to have a lot of errors and not localised. Any official releases will be validated and tested with one decent playthrough. I just post them so other modders (right now only Kale) can take a look at the code or whatever.

I'll check out the updated copy later, touch up the state of emergency decision, add the martial law stuff, and then play some test games for balance. An "official" update by Sunday-ish would be preferable.
