Colour me confused. I have SF patched to 2.04d, with this running as a mod on top - and I get none of the problems with changing leaders mentioned above. But I see repeated calls from folk to upgrade to 2.04e, which so far as I'm aware is still only at Beta.

Huh? :wacko::eek:

2.04e is safe, it fixes alliance bug and some more stuff. You can play without it but I'd recommend to use it (in order to avoid Italy-Poland alliance that can screw up the game). :)

when the unmodded game has the right checksum under 2.04d the DLC does work but 2.04e does fix the weird alliances like italy-albania-greece.

I'm in mid 1939 with interesting things to report:

1. Spanish Nationalist lost badly and quickly despite support. No contest.
2. I went with every maximum support option for China and here is the sequence of events up to now: China is in a solid stalemate with Japan and joined the Axis. About week after joining the Axis, the UK declared war on me. I don't understand what casus belli the UK had to declare war, I wasn't warned about one and thought democracies cant declare war.

Something really critical about this dec. of war is that I no longer have the option to split Poland with Russia. Not only will I not have a non-aggression pact but my invasion will start much closer to Moscow. I'll file a future report on how this turns out.

One more thing: I'm not clear on why the Chinese diplomacy option to get them in the Axis automatically joins war against Japan. Japan was a member of the Axis but didn't declare war with the allies until '41.

Something is screwed up with the sequence of events, I'll try to fix that. You shouldn't be able to help China if Japan is in the axis and you should have problem with the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact either.

UK declaring war on you is because you are threatening, declaring war on Japan is threatening. I'll delete that part of the decision and only make China to join axis (this is up to you then to declare war or not against Japan).

You shouldn't be able to help China if Japan is in the axis

I think you might have misunderstood. Japan WAS NOT in the axis during my campaign. I was just highlighting that China joining the axis shouldn't automatically start war. The Japan/China dynamic has been excellent since at this point my relations are 200 for China and -200 for Japan.

And Im not sure why there would be something wrong with the non-aggression pact. If war is on against Poland before the pre-req. date for the Molotov-Ribbentrop than how would the decision still be possible? Maybe there could be a hypothetical non-agression pact for if Poland is conquered before the pre-req. date for Molotov-Ribbentrop. Russia would have been pretty pissed if the German border got so close to Moscow. Maybe a treaty where Russia lets Germany have its land in peace but the border is demilitarized like the rhineland in '36...with the necessary events to betray that treaty in the future of coarse.;)

Nationalist spain..

I absolutly love hearts of iron for its ability to allow the player to change history or re-enact History. Though.. and i'm probably a bit off topic here, but since i've gotten Hearts of Iron III Semper Fi: Dies Irae Götterdämmerung which i love up until the Spanish civil war...... Where.. To my surprise, after loading from the start of it 5 times... nationalist spain is unable to actually win.. -.-

I was wondering if anyone has their opinion on.. ionno... maybe making them win? Coz i kinda wanna play it Historically.
Thanks,

Don't know if this has already been reported but oh well, I'm fighting the Russians in Norway and there are some Mechanized units that I just can't beat, I noticed that after a few months of sustained fighting, all the other units had shattered except for just one mechanized unit who's org and strength wouldn't drop below 1.0. I keep coming across the same units and having the same problem.

Can you upload a savegame please? I don't quite understand how that's possible.

Hi,
I like the new events at Dies Irae and the historical content-texts. Yesterday, I played Germany in coop (medium) together with a mate and we conquered Poland in 2 weeks. My mate and I were surprised, that Italy and Yugoslavia broke through the french forces in the same time. But I would prefer historical type designation for the planes, like Ju-87, Bf-109 or FW-190.

I think (contrary to what I thought) that REINFORCEMENTS are NOT treated as specialists troops, although I don´t know which training (= how much experience) they are supposed to have. So, if you build a RESERVE division with specialist training, it will start with 30 exp. (or 25 exp. In DI). However, depending on you conscript laws, it will get from its very begininng more or less men (depending on your conscript law). When you mobilize (or when you get a higher conscript law) your exp. gets lower. That can only happen because REINFORCEMENTS are not treated as specialists troops by the game (even if you happen to have the specialist training law enacted when you mobilize). I thought that if you had specialist training enacted, you´d get reinforcements with 30 exp. (or 25 exp. in DI), but now I see it´s not the case.

So based on this the best strategy is to NOT use specialized training before war starts. The units take much longer to build at a cost of a lower experience value which is further watered down by mobilization and two or three year drafts.

Thanks,

I had to restart three times and in all three games Nat. Spain won pretty fast. Also, you do realize that having Republican Spain makes it easier for you to actually control Spain and capture Gilbralter.

Game Observation:
Thee are some nice decisions where if you DOW the Low Countries you get 500 MP. I first tried my usual strategy of only DOW'ing Netherlands and noticed that the decision went away. Nice touch on forcing me to decide if I want 500MP or take them piecemeal. There is also another one for Denmark but it only nets you 50MP. The issue with this one is you can't do it till 1940 or if you researched the operation. Problem with that is the operation takes a long time to research and both don't happen till 1940. And the Norway decision seems based on the Denmark one where if I DOW Denmark the Norway decision goes away.

Game Oddities:
Belgium didn't mobilize till I not only DOW'd Netherlands but just about defeated it. That meant they had about one week of mobilization before I attacked them. Not sure if they were easy because of this or if they are just easy as usual. Poland was not mobilized and I got their GIE in 10 days. Research does seem to take longer than im vanilla. Supply consumption shoots way up whenever I ahve troops on enemy soil. Was there a change to supply throughput or supply tax? Subs farily close to England get spotted pretty fast. I had two fleets of 2 subs both medium operating fairly close to the UK. In less than one month both fleets were spotted and engaged in battle. I didn't lose any subs but they were down to 8% strength. My long range sub group of 3 subs operating in mid Atlantic hasn't been spotted. France has not abandoned any Maginot provinces and that operation for attackign Switzerland might be a loophole cause it gives mountain and infantry a bonus in attacking forts.

From what I read about 2.04f it should work just fine. But you may want to resrt the game. I plan to use the patch and restart my current game. I was only in September 1939 so no big deal I guess.

Be sure you reinstall the dlc after installing 2.04f patch

- Install the 2.04f patch
- Install the DLC again (overwrite all the files)
- You can play

I have tried it for a year (36->37) and nothing seems out so I guess it is compatible. :)

This time I'm going to save those files after I download them in a new place and then just reuse it from there. LOL

BTW is it right for the operation techs to take like 8 months to research even if they are level 0? And should the norway decision disappear because you don't use the Denmark one?

Some operation techs are level 0, some are level 5. I didn't change the difficulty of research or efficiency etc. Those are the vanilla values (you need to check practical and theory tho, bad figures means longer time).
You have a year to launch the invasions (weserubung ends at 1941), this has nothing to do with not launching the denmark one. The point of those decisions is to give MP boost for the players that play historically. :)

I'm not seeing the High-Quality Subs tech activate.

I get the U-Boat Waffe event and accept it, and I can see that the sub cost in IC goes up substantially vs. the start of the game, but I don't see any option in the Production screen when I build, and I don't see the tech on the Tech screens.

EDIT: OK, I see. You need to go into the submarine components list and turn off/on High Quality Construction.

I don't have access to the game right now but is this similiar to making land units reserves or adding cags? Is it a check box on the screen where you determine the number of serial/parallel runs?

It is a component you can choose on the production screen like 1938 main guns or 1940 AA.

Production or tech research screens. Those 1938 main guns are a research option that all future ships then have. Unless this is something that I never realized or noticed before. On the production screen I just click on the unit/ship/plane, set the number I want to build and click build.
