How to make the mod compatible with 1.4b:
1. Download the mod and install it.
2. Download those two files: cb-types.txt and defines.lua and place them in the "common" folder in your installation.

Contains elements of New Nations Mod and PDM.

How to install (don't mind the version numbers; the instructions are still the same):

Modern Day Scenario installation instructions:

Step One: Make a copy of your Victoria 2 install. Take the entire folder and copy it elsewhere.

This mod requires Victoria 2 v1.3, not v1.4b.

If you're using a Windows computer, it's recommended that that you copy it outside of C:/Program Files, though this isn't absolutely necessary, it will make your life easier.

You can subsequently rename the folder "Victoria 2 Modern Day Scenario" if you want.

Step Two: Download the mod. Link at the top of the post.

Step Three: You will get a .zip file.

To unzip it, you need a program capable of doing so. I use Zipeg, though there are many out there. When you unzip it, you should get a folder called "Modern Day Scenario 0.10".

Step Four: Use your selected program to unzip the file. If you use a Windows, you can unzip the file "over" the installation. For Mac users:



where the top folder is your installation copy and the bottom the unzipped, downloaded file.

Copy each folder from the downloaded file, except for "gfx" - place the one folder it contains, "flags", in your installation's gfx folder.

This method will also work for Windows users.

Step Five: Don't launch the game yet! You need to clear your map cache and flag cache.

Your map cache is found in (according to where the game is installed and which OS you run):

[Windows, not in Program Files] : Your installation/map/cache
[Windows in Program Files] C:/Your name here/AppData/Local/VirtualStore, then find the Paradox folders there.
[Mac] Your name here/Library/Application Support/Victoria 2/DataChanges/map/cache

It looks like this:



Delete these files, but not the folder itself.

Your flag cache is found in:

[Windows, not in Program Files] Your installation/gfx/flags (among all the flag pictures)
[Windows, Program Files] C:/Your name here/AppData/Local/VirtualStore, again, find the Paradox folders from there.
[Mac] Your name here/Library/Application Support/Victoria 2/DataChanges/gfx

and looks like this:



Again, delete these files, but not the folder they are stored in.

The game will recreate them when you run it.

Step Six: Run the game. Have fun.

You'll need to empty the map- and flag-cache every time you switch between the mod and vanilla Victoria 2 (unless you've installed it outside C:/Program Files on a Windows.).

Note: I'm not working on this mod too much now (well, I'm just updating the first post, so I'm actually not working at all), so most of the credit should go to tamius23, Vaximillian, Hibernian, ZomgK3tchup and other people who have helped.

How about 2050? Anyway, I have statistics for literacy of all modern countries for 2003. Here are three samples in V2 (country history) format already:

AUS - Austria

2003.1.1 = { literacy = 0.98 non_state_culture_literacy = 0.98 }

BRZ - Brazil

2003.1.1 = { literacy = 0.86 non_state_culture_literacy = 0.86 }

SWE - Sweden

People suggested in other threads like this to have college education become the new standard, and I think it's a good one. Can keep it "catch all" by calling it higher ed.

Before anyone suggests it and everyone goes off on a tangent on it, I recommend just ignoring WMDs and extremely complex systems that the game cannot handle and focus on geography, economy, and later military (since that's when it tends to get sticky in decisions).

If you get tired of working on it then at least you can put up a map people can work from and other such things. Work on the big stuff, worry about the small stuff later. These Modern Day mods always seems to drift off because of lost interest or the inability to model something that isn't that important. Just because we can't model an OPEC doesn't mean the game/mod is ruined.

None of that probably helps, but I thought I'd suggest it now before any of that is brought up. It inevitably is.

2050 is too far in the future, I lack the creativity to think new techs and other things. I was thinking about 1970, or 2000, or just simply 2011. I'll probably need lots, LOTS of help with POPs and techs/inventions (my creativity is very very weak )

hmmm 2050 could have some events like continent union e.g. france,germany,russia and the uk form europe nation and that a 1st flying car but i still say 1980s -2020 so then you can use some past events unles you plan on starting from 1970's to 2011

This could be scripted pretty well, actually. You'd just need a decision like this:

• Requires a country flag such as "has_nukes".
• Can only be used when at war with a Great/Secondary Power.
• Targets the enemy nation's capital.
• Drops the capital's population by X%.
• Drops the capital's liferating by X%.
• Adds a province modifier that decreases immigration and production.
• Can only be used once.

Then create decisions like that but target specific city's like New York, Liverpool, Manchester, Nanking, Shanghai, etc.

Have the start date somewhere around 2000-2020 but include some fictional backstory in the few years leading up to the start date (such as a severe energy crisis), leading to a breakdown down of the traditional modern alliances and weakening the USA and China inorder to give a more even playing field and to give a more Victorian feel of great power politics rather than superpower politics.

2020 start date would be interesting I think, but I'll first need to think of what could have happened between now and 2020, and I'll need new techs etc etc, it scares me a bit...

I think it'll be 100 years from start date as in vanilla Vicky, so most probably the mod's timeframe will be 2020-2120 or 2011-2111.

Edit: Has anyone got some ideas for representing European Union, NATO, United Nations etcetera etcetera in game?

Are you thinking about adding new and/or possible countries like South Ossetia or something? Also be pretty cool to try to reunite the middle east. I'd also be down with an earlier start date, something like 1991 with the fall of the USSR, or even a 1989 start so you could either tear down the wall or attempt to save it. Also, I'm not good with actual modding, but if you need help with researching or hypothesising events, I'm down to help.

If the mod starts in 2020 then some of the countries that currently don't exist will exist, if it starts in 2011 the world map will look as world map from 1st January 2011 but of course the non-sovereign nations will have cores on their territory, for example Euskadi/Basque Country cores on Bilbao and Pamplona, or Tibetan cores on Tibet region.
