    Hungary Flavor Mod

    Hungary Flavor Mod

    I like to play Victoria 2 (or any other historical game, for that matter), as Hungary. And since there is no Hungary in Vic2 by default, I have been modding it from day 1 I bought this game. In time, I even started to write decisions (some historical, some fictional), to add more flavor to my games. Right now, there's around 20 of them, so I decided to share it with you. Some decisions are not Hungary exclusive (but have culture or province requirements instead, so can be enacted as e.g. Austria too), so people who don't want to upset the vanilla game balance, may also find useful things in this mod. Those of you, who want to try the whole package, think about it as an alternative history. What if Hungary managed to remain an independent state between the Habsburg and Ottoman Empires? Would she manage to become a Great power? Or what would have happened if Hungarians had reached compromise with the minorities?

    I. Installation
    (The Mod is 1.3 compatible)

    1. Full install
    Copy everything to its respective folder and overwrite if necessary. This will give you the decisions and a brand new playable Hungary in the Grand Campaign scenario, with other RGO resource and map tweaks.
    Most notably:
    -Hungary independent, no AUS cores, same starting techs as AUS, literacy cca 30% (so the Springtime events may fire as it should)
    -Suceava: owned by Moldavia, in the Moldavia region
    -Kotor: owned by Montenegro, in the Montenegro region
    -Dalmatia: owned by Ottomans
    -several province and region names changed (localised) for Hungary
    Those trolls out there who might find this latter point offensive (e.g. that I changed Bratislava to Pozsony) take a deep breath, before you comment here to state how offended you are, and consider two things. If you are offended by this (1.) why the hell would you play a Hungary Flavor Mod, anyway? Seriously. (2.) Refer to the "Minimal Install" instructions below.

    2. Minimal Install
    Copy only
    -the decision folder, and
    -the HUN.csv (from the "localisation" folder)
    -the event_modifiers.txt (from "common" folder)
    (If you have mods installed, tampering this txt, copypasta everything from mine below ##HUN)
    This will give you only the decisions, without altering anything else. (Although the "Budapest" decisions won't make much sense)

    II. The Decisions (hope, I don't leave anything out)
    For most of them, I give a rationale in the in-game descriptions, so if you're interested in a detailed description, check it out while playing, or the HUN.csv in the localisation folder.

    Primus Inter Pares
    Transforms Hungary to Prussian Constitutionalism, if Absolute Monarchy.
    -Only landed voting
    -Harassment

    "We demand the freedom of the press and the abolition of censorship."
    First of 12 demands in the 1848 revolution of Pest.
    -can be enacted only in the years 1848 and 1849
    -free press
    -wealth voting
    - -3 infamy and prestige
    - -2 middle strata militancy

    King of Rama
    HUN gain core on Sarajevo to claim Bosnia from the Ottomans.
    Requirements
    -HUN is a monarchy
    -HUN is Great Power
    or
    -HUN is Secondary Power, if TUR is not a Great Power

    Dalmatian Coast
    HUN gains cores on Dalmatia, to reclaim its patrimony lost to the Ottomans
    Requirements
    -HUN is a monarchy
    - 10 military and prestige score

    Halych Claims
    HUN gain cores in East and West Galicia (not every province).
    -HUN is Great Power
    - 100+ prestige
    -gain 5 infamy

    Polish Enclave
    After conquering Galicia, give citizenship to the Poles, based on the traditional friendship of the two peoples.
    -HUN owns the cores, given in "Halych Claims" decision
    -Polish becomes accepted culture, Polish pops lose militancy
    -Poland does NOT exists
    -citizenship policy is NOT Residency

    Croatian Compromise
    Historical decision, the 1868 Compromise with Croatians.
    -HUN after 1848

    -KUK after 1868
    -Croatia does NOT exists

    Romanian Compromise
    Decision for HUN, a Compromise with Romanian peoples, based on the Croatian Compromise.

    -HUN annex any 1 or 2 state countries, that are independent (not a satellite), in the Hungarian SoI, in Europe, borders Hungary

    Nándorfehérvár
    Rename Belgrade to Nándorfehérvár if HUN owns and has core on Belgrade.

    Rename Nándorfehérvár
    The same vica versa for SER and YUG

    Budapest
    Contrary to what devs at PI might think, Budapest exists only since 1873. Pest and Buda were two separate cities, with Buda being the nation's capital.
    -Rename Buda to Budapest
    -gain "Industrial Boom" national modifier for 10 years. (same effects as Ruhr boom)
    -requires "organized factories" and "stock exchange" techs and the Lánchíd decision

    Kaiser und König
    Claim the throne of Hungary. A player-Austria should have no problem diplo-annexing Hungary this way.
    -Both nation is a monarchy
    -HUN in the Austrian SoI
    -HUN 50- prestige
    -AUS 120+ prestige
    -AUS gain 6 infamy
    -hungarian pops gain 6 militancy and consciousness

    Magyar-Osztrák Monarchia
    Or "Hungary-Austria". Form the KuK as Hungary
    -HUN is a monarchy
    -HUN owns Vienna
    -did NOT enact the Dominions of the Crown decision

    Pest-Vác Railroad
    The very first railroad of Hungary, built in 1846.
    -for anyone who owns Buda(pest) province
    -Buda province instantly gains lvl 1 railroad for 15000 money
    -has experimental railroad tech

    -year is 1846 (regardless of tech)

    Start Construction of Lánchíd
    Lánchíd is the first permanent bridge over Danube in Hungary. It was built for 10 years, finished in 1849.
    -for anyone who owns Buda(pest) province

    The lánchíd is finished.

    Millenial Celebrations
    Celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Honfoglalás, the arrival of the Magyar people to Hungary.
    -for anyone with Hungarian as accepted or primary culture (HUN, KUK and Siebenbürgen)
    -can be enacted in the years 1895 and 1896
    -pay 50000 money
    -gain milenial celebrations national modifier for 2 years, giving 0.5 prestige, 10% assimilation rate and -0.01 militancy modifier

    Regulate Tisza River
    -for anyone who owns Szatmár, Debrecen, Szeged, Temesvár
    -have machine tools, nitroglycerin and steam turbine and pay 500000 money
    -above mentioned provinces gain Regulated Tisza modifier for the end of the game, giving +5% farm size and efficiency

    Build the Parliament
    The Parliament building is the landmark of Budapest, and houses the nations Parliament ever since it was built in 1896.

    III. Known issues
    -The Milenial Celebrations decision don't make much sense, if you enact it as KuK. It assimilates to south German, whereas it should to Hungarian. Also it reduces militancy for every pop, but it should only reduce militancy of Hungarian pops.

    -The Parliament modifier is completely NOT what I had in mind for this decision. I intended it to be a permanent bureaucrat NF modifier for Budapest province alone. Rationale: If Budapest becomes an administrative bubblehead, well, that's what IRL happened. I copied the respective lines from the national_focus.txt, but nothing appeared in game, so, I have no idea if it worked or not. And I just can't release it that way.

    -HUN starts without an army. _oob.txt-s are too complicated for me, sry. Also, as of 1.3 you may find difficult to buy liquor or small arms, required for troops. Sry, this is also beyond my control.

    -Lánchíd decisions should be events. Like you decide to start the construction and 10 years later you get an event that its finished. But unfortunately events are way over my head, so I decided to stick with this version.

    IV. Update
    23rd April
    -Fixed Parliament decision, having 2 "allow" conditions, instead of "potential"
    -German and French versions now should display the English texts. (HUN.csv had only one column filled with text) Also fixed the spelling of "millenial" (was missing an L)

    26th April
    -Fixed the Dominions of the Crown decision, now annexes (correctly) only 1 and 2 state countries.
    -Edited the AUS decision "Austro-Hungarian Compromise" to check whether Hungary exists or not. (file included in 'decision' folder) Previously it was possible to form KUK even if HUN existed, because decisions I made gave HUN cores on AUS territory. Now it is fixed.



    I have very limited skills in coding, even in this fairly dumbed down language, for which a 1000 thx to PI, making this Mod possible! So, if anyone can help with the above issues, or others, your help is welcome and appreciated!

    Any advice and feedback is also appreciated (apart from the ones specified in I.1)!

    Feel free to use anything from here in your Mods, just please, give me credits!

    To form the KuK as Hungary why do you have to control Vienna? Can't you just have Austria in your sphere because that's like to form greater Germany as Prussia you have to capture Vienna which sort of defeats the purpose since you gain infamy to take a provence which you will annex plus that's Austria's capital and that means you have to dismantle the remainder of the empire so you gain all of the infamy for doing that.

    @CesarzPolska: It was never intended to be easy. TBH, why would you even do it, if you finally got the chance to play as Hungary
    But you definitely have a point and I will probably change it in the next update.

    @molace: Thanks for the stuff! I also got some leader and party names in a PM a while back, so I will include these too.

    Also, I have learnt a bit about events while modding things in EU3, so I will also change some decisions or write new events from scratch. Oh, and I will include on _oob too.

    I guess you are right because without hungary austria is usually very weak. Do you think you would ever try to make a Austrian flavor mod since it has a few decisions and events but none with this much depth because Austria (with Hungary) and Hungary are fun games because of there size position and strength I'm playing as Austria and I have hundreds of thousands of craftsmen and the largest army and navy in the world, I formed the SGF but just so its easier for Prussia to focus on NGF and then form Germany as Austria I plan on focussing outside of Germany.
