Neither. Routine deployment on a patrol the RN has been maintaining for 30 years.
If I'm not mistaken every destroyer and frigate currently in active service (Except for the Type 45s) have been down there at least once.
Dauntless is not a routine deployment. You would not place a brand spanking new ship into the South Atlantic and waters that hostile for its first operational deployment. The fact remains that she is a powerful piece of kit and we want to provide a very considerable presense and remind Argentina that just because there is a lot of change going on doesn't mean we are not going to keep an eye on the Falklands. That said she seems very light in the bow in that picture. Knowing the bloody MOD I bet she only has 4 Aster missiles as oppossed to the full compliment of 48 missiles.
