For trade I support Protectionism. America's industry must be protected from foreign competition. Only then can the American workers feel secure.

Only then? America produce more and cheaper goods than any other nation in the world. Tariffs will not have any effect on imports, it will not make Americans richer, on the contrary it will make them poorer.

I support Moralism. Our United States are a Christian nation, and it's important to safeguard our Christian heritage and culture. There should be no conflict between church and labor, on the contrary the church and labor are an alliance made in Heaven. I support Full Citizenship. We are a nation of immigrants, and all those people leaving their homes in Europe, coming to our land of Hope should be welcomed with open arms.

Why is it important we persecute other religions? You say you support full citizenship, but that is impossible without pluralism. In your own words, this is a nation of immigrants. If Americans immigrated to other countries and were not allowed to follow Christianity, you would be shouting on every street corner for something to be done about it. Yet it is alright for the same to happen to other religions?

I also endorse Pacifism. America should not seek foreign wars. Wars are only fought to Oppress the working classes. America should only fight to protect our borders or our allies in Cuba and the Philippines from foreign invasions. No other war can be just. We should never send our sons to die in a battlefield due to some war in Europe.

If you endorse pacifism, that suggest no war at all. But if we protect our allies and ourselves, that is pro Military.

I will also continue the fight for Prohibition. The Saloons are an enemy of the Working Classes. Alcohol is a poison that turn family against each other and lead to poverty and misery. Too many good working men spend all their savings on cards and whiskey and leave wife and children starving. Too many good men spend their days of in the Saloon, instead of seeking salvation in the Church. Too many good men hit their wife in a drunken rage. This poison must be banned.

Before you assume to know what the working classes think, perhaps you should consider those who have lived with them, as I have. Now I have made my fortune, and I have been far luckier than many of our nation's citizens in that, but i know what it is like.

I pledge my support to the Conservative party and will vote for the candidate who impresses the most.

I am also pleased to see the imense growth of the American economy, as well as the amazing growth of Howard Industries. Howard Industries is now producing more, exporting more and employing more that ever before. I am confident the growth can continue, helping the American economy and providing more jobs.

Alfred Howard
CEO of Howard Industries and Repersentative of Boston

I was against mr. Callahan's actions, but what you propose it Class Warfare. The Unions are important to give the workers a chance to defend their rights. As president I would do anything to defend the workers from the likes of you.

Jimmy Nightmore

If it is class warfare, Mr. Nightmore, then it is Callahan who started it. The purpose of unions is to defend worker's rights, as you rightfully claim. It is not to threaten the lives and incomes of hard-working Americans, or to serve as a private army for political vendettas.

Though Mr. Callahan went about his objections recklessly, to refer to the NLU as merely hired thugs is as inflammatory a statement as can be made about the workers of this nation! Workers have an inalienable right to with hold their labor, in fact, it is almost their only bargaining tool when dealing with greedy parasites such as yourself. To attempt to destroy the NLU and the right to strike would be tantamount to the re-shackling of all the former slaves of the south! Although, your party is composed of ex-Confederates and Southern Revivalists, so your stance on unions is not exactly surprising considering the likelihood that a majority of your party support the re-institution of slavery.

((SHame that my former Senate seat is still Federal, though it makes sense, since I was a Federal then.))

Mr. Hayden, I never once said I would destroy the NLU. You are putting words into my mouth. I merely said that I would support investigations.

I am also frankly appalled that you would accuse me or my party of attempting to reinstitute slavery. Unions have a right to collectively bargain for better wages and working conditions. They have the right to strike for those as well, and I would not outlaw strikes for this reason. Using strikes to attempt to blackmail or extort a rightfully elected President is, however, illegal, as those would be crimes even if it were one person doing them.

The proximate cause of the recent labor unpleasantness was Callahan's decision to use mob tactics to stir up trouble, on the flimsy basis of allegedly fraudulent elections. I therefore propose the following bill, and would be indebted to any Congressman who would see fit to sponsor this bill, which I am calling the Federal Election Commission Act

1. A Federal Election Commission (FEC) shall be formed on a non-partisan basis to investigate electoral fraud.
2. This Commission would have the authority to monitor electioneering tactics, both at the ballot box and during the counting process.
3. The Commissioner could then prepare a report for the rest of Congress to review and take appropriate action.

I welcome amendments or other criticisms of my bill.

We have very different views on a lot of things, but this bill I'd back.

How will Americans be poorer by supporting American goods on the American market?

I am not talking about persecuting anyone, but American is a Christian nation, with a great Christian heritage. Thus Christianity should be supported. Of course we get many Jews through immigration from Europe too, and they should be allowed to follow their religion. But Christian morals must be protected.

If you endorse pacifism, that suggest no war at all. But if we protect our allies and ourselves, that is pro Military.
Every nation must protect her borders from foreign aggressors, and we have treaties to back Cuba and the Philippines. However our military should be limited to that, and only that. America is not a nation of war. We should never get ourselves involved in Imperialistic adventures, or in the Great Game of Europe. Wars are only there to oppress the working classes, as my father always said.

Before you assume to know what the working classes think, perhaps you should consider those who have lived with them, as I have. Now I have made my fortune, and I have been far luckier than many of our nation's citizens in that, but i know what it is like.
In my youth I did many things. I had a very rebellious face when I tried to defy my father. I traveled around and ended up working in several coal mines in my new home State of Ohio. And I saw the power of alcohol with my own eyes. I saw what it did. I saw the broken families and the poverty it spread. It's a poison from the Devil.

How will Americans be poorer by supporting American goods on the American market?

Because it is not supporting American goods, it's forcing American workers to pay more.

((I have no idea what party Roderick is now a part of.))

As the current situation with both the ACP and Federalist Party seem to be almost identical and opposite at the same time, I now announce my affiliation with no party, and will now be an Independent Senator for Ohio.

I, Andrew Garrett, am running for the ACP nomination. Although I held my nose and voted Federal in the last election, I have been intrigued by the ACP long enough to see that it may be a viable alternative to the now defunct Republican Party.

As always, I am a firm believer in Laissez Faire economic policies, Free Trade, Full Citizenship, and military modernization and expansion.

Although our nation's economy continues to grow, I turn a wary eye to the tactics of Mr. Callahan. Instead of proposing an investigation in Congress, he chose to hire thugs to stir up trouble. If unions choose not believe in a civilized manner, perhaps the unions should be carefully scrutinized.

Mr. Garret, I Propose whomever of us wins the ACP Nomination makes the other his vice-president. What say you?

I don't think I've ever said that. I think a few of you however, have said it would be premature to announce cabinet positions before being elected.

As for Vice-Presidents, the idea originally was that in a two-way primary, the loser would become VP by voting for the other in a tie.

Ok, I've decided to permanently settle in with a character. I know I had created another one, but I fail to remember what I made him about.

My definite character:

Name: William III Carlsson.
Party: ACP

Senator from Alabama.

I'll add it to my sig so that people can remember who I am

Primary of 1888

Federal Party Candidate(s):

Daniel Vallejo (b. 1844), Incumbent President of the Republic ((Gloa)). Vallejo has led the United States for the last four years, and has full faith that his policies will continue to bring prosperity.

American Conservative Party Candidate(s):

Samuel Lee Davis (b. 1850), Minister of the Interior ((Projekt 919)). Davis, one of the driving forces behind the creation of the ACP and its subsequent clean sweep of Southern State Legislatures, believes in a “Compassionate Conservative” Platform of free trade, laissez faire and Departments of State for West, North and South. However, his less vocal advocates in the ACP fear that his Departments of State and blood shared with the most famous general of the Confederacy may hurt his chances to gain votes in the populous and thus all-important North.

Andrew Garrett
(b. 1840), Owner of Norfolk Sipping Co. ((Avinidan)). Garrett has bounced back from the collapse of the Republican Party, and now hopes to gain the nomination of the ACP on a platform of laissez faire, mixed with closer observance of the Unions that caused so much trouble during the Great Strike.

Democratic Party Candidate(s):

Joe Hayden
(b. 1837), Secretary of Industry ((blingoose)). Hayden, who recently switched to the Democratic Party because of their socialist party line, believes in a “Square Deal”. The “Square Deal” involves the government stepping in to ensure that the boom does not become a speculative set up for a recession like no other.

Jimmy Nightmore (b. 1840), Congressman for Ohio ((yourworstnightm)). Nightmore, last election’s VP candidate for the Democrats, continues to advocate a progressive tax and governmental protection of the right to strike. The more controversial aspects of his platform include a continued advocacy of prohibition, and Nightmore’s unusually religious rhetoric, which many accuse of attempting to break down the wall of separation between church and state.

-------------------------

Exceptional Situation(s):

Aye/Nay/Abstain vote on the Federal Election Commission. Other than that, normal primary procedure.

I hope the FEC encourages a return of bill-proposing, because I have shamefully neglected to notice most proposed bills since after the Civil War, and I’m truly sorry for that.

I would like to join.

My Character:

Name: Thomas H. Collins
Party: Democrat
Position: Senator from Illinois

Background:
Thomas was born in 1840, in Chicago to an Irish-American mother and father. His father worked as a fire-fighter while his mother was a laundress. After he reached his teen years Thomas joined the crew of a transport ship on the Great Lake where he worked through his mid-twenties. After his career as a sailor he became a union organiser in Chicago before getting involved in local, then state, and finally national politics, where he represents the state of Illinois as a Senator from the democratic party fighting for the rights of the working man.

I vote for Samuel Lee Davis! The confederacy will live in the hearts of our people, and in the grace of our future president Lee!

I'm scared of this support for Projekt, not because he's a Southern conservative, but because all that support seems to be based on the Confederacy. :ninja:

Also, welcome Mr. Collins. Perhaps you would like to vote in your party primary. :)

Welcome to you too, Mr. Carlsson.
