((You can always make a Farmers and Labor Party. A third party is always interesting.))

(( If he's trying to put things on a more historically parallel note, after the divergence following abolitionism to a earlier (but not more popular than in real history, if you look at the heyday in the 1890's to pre-Great War) socialism, then around this time there would be the start of the farmer movement. We're on a slightly accelerated time table so the Wild West is probably about over already, meaning there could be problems going on between the Western farmers and the rail companies. Exorbitant shipping rates and the wholesale purchase of failing family farms by cattle barons and land speculators are what led the granger movement and the related bimetallism/greenback movement (wanting inflation so that the farmers can get credit more easily) to form the Populist Party - IIRC.

If that is the route BBB chooses, that could put our politics on a closer frame of reference to the real life timeline. ))

Inaugural Address

Fellow Citizens,

Today is a day of gratitude, not only to a benevolent God who has blessed our nation over the decades since our Republic's founding, but also a day of gratitude in the strength and persistence of our great Union and the Constitution upon which it is based. I stand before you as a man humbled to be chosen to lead this nation for the next four years, and the confidence you have shown me shall not go wasted. We will realize an improvement in the lives of all Americans, rich and poor, black and white, immigrant and native citizen. We will see increased vitality in American businesses, here at home and abroad. We will see an improved standing of the United States in the world, not by the sword, but by the values of our Republic. We shall cherish the peace that we all sacrificed to attain, and do our utmost to see it continue. We will work tirelessly to make this Union more perfect like our Founding Fathers willed, using their good works as our guidance. And we shall stay modest for we know that the work of the People is never finished.

I would like to thank President Jamous for 8 years of attentive duty to this high office - under his leadership we have attained new heights in our nation and rebuilt after a ruinous war. Now, with faith in God and our Republic, we look to the future with a sense of purpose and hope. Let us now go forward and do the work of the American People.

-President Maximilian Mandrake

Greetings Roderick Khur. (Now, how will you play this one King...?)

(I love the introduction of new characters, allows for the shift in national focus much quicker.)

((The problem right now is a lack of divisive issues, and the loss of the Libertarians' raison d'être (civil liberties in peril, worker standard of living, etc). This AAR always worked best with two parties divided on a vital issue (which LF vs Int will never fulfil) with a third party as more of a swing vote (Whigs vs South with Democrats holding the balance of power, or however you chose to perceive it). One issue I think is coming to the fore but has yet to heat up is the conflict of isolationists/doves vs liberators/hawks. I think if the Libertarians aren't going to go out with a whimper, they should go out with a bang. Externalise the worker's revolution. Where my Hawks at?))

((Oh god, non-isolationist foreign policy. That was the reason I didn't vote for Howard...Maryland isn't too strongly devoted to North or South either.))

Isolationism has bought us nothing but domestic conflict. Time to put our energies into liberating the Americas. We have achieved much in the last 90 years to separate the new world from the old. Why should we stop now?

President Mandrake, this last post made me realize that we will be the centennial administration!

Oh, and Mr. Callahan, do you want to substitute internal conflict (which ended slavery), or would you have American men die overseas for the sake of liberating peoples unfit to liberate themselves? If you do, consider this: they may owe their 'liberty' to us, but they will become dependent on us, at least temporarily. Not only that, we will become an imperialist power, invading nations that do not hold our ideals of liberty and our notions of civility. I say we lead by example, by supporting freedom at home, encouraging enterprise and innovation, by protecting the inalienable rights of all men, and inspiring the people of all nations to change the world for the better!

Howard Industries: Home and Global Expansion

Howard Industries has not grown or expanded in over 10 years. We have not built another factory since the completion of Elipious Arms. I plan to radically reverse that trend.

Howard Industries shall diversify into new markets, expand at home and build abroad.

Howard Industries will expand the following factory's:

American Liqueur Co [Alabama]
US cement works [Texas]
Howard Textiles [Massachusetts] [Virginia] [Connecticut]
Elipious Arms [Maryland]

Howard Industries shall construct the following factories:

Howard Steel Works [Arizona]
Howard Textiles [Florida] [Brunswick]
US Cement Works [British Colimbia]

Construction shall begin immediately. We have began a policy of rapid expansion. Our plan will employ thousands more, boost the economy and make Howard industries one of the leading manufacturing firms in the world.

We are also prepared to buy the factories owned by Mr Jarvis, Mr Jamous and Mr Orange.

Regards, Alfred Howard

Governor Jonathan Nightmore shot dead. The police suspect Anarchists

The death of Governor Nightmore is shocking all of Massachussets and the whole United States. Police says he was shot in the head in his office, and they investigate whether some staff members were involved. The only clue is a note they found stating: "Never forget the Little Anarchy", which point to Anarchist involvement. Mr. Nightmore was one of the few Libertarian governors of the United States, and this will indeed be a blow to the Libertarian Party, that just faced defeat in the General Elections. Furthermore it may show a radicalization of the Anarchist movement into such crimes as assassinations and other forms of unacceptable violence. How the assassin could enter the governor's office and shoot the governor, and then leave unnoticed is still a mystery to the police. Jonathan Nightmore left behind a grieving widow and 5 children. Jonathan Nightmore was the son of the prominent politician Jonathan Nightmore Sr, known for being a strong voice in the prewar Republican Party.

5. Industry needs some regulation, yes, which is why I support worker safety. I also believe that businessmen like Mr. Howard can enact change better than government can. I sit constitutional for the government to involve itself in business? That you despise capitalists so much makes me question your support for Howard, since he is a businessmen, much like I am. If you believe the boss man is a cruel tyrant, desiring to rob the worker every cent, rather than a man creating jobs, perhaps you should endorse Mr. Bryan, who also seems somewhat supportive of capitalists.

I am sorry that you got that impression. I realise it was an easy one to get due to my words. My belief is that there will always be at least one bad businessman in the thousands, and for what they do to be legal, so there is no chance whatsoever of them being punsided, is despicable. If a higher minimun wage means one more cent for one man, it will have been worth it. And I believe it will mean far more than that.

I am quite curious who the person you are referring to is, Senator Walsh.

General Mandrake

Suffice it be to say they are high ranking members of your Administration. Very high ranking.

Jamous-Khur Works is not for sale Young Howard. It will stand as a secondary monument to my father-in-law, a shining beacon to thousands of workers across the eastern, and soon to be, western sea-board. Send your father my regards.

One assassination per half-century. That's the quota. :D

I respect your descision sir. I wish the Jamous-Khur works and yourself the best of luck in the future.

At the minute my father says he scared of going blind, incase he turns into a republican. I'm not sure what that means but anyway. I'm sure your regards will make him happy.

I don't believe either of my sons are prepared to give up the family business, since I haven't run the day-to-day affairs since the War ended; however, they both seem quite willing to go into joint-ventures with you, Mr. Howard. Oh, and how is your father's hunting going; is the has the Rebel government been obliterated?

I denounce the assassination of Governor Nightmore as more senseless violence against hard-working, peaceful members of American society. This is nothing more than terrorism. These terrorists shall not be allowed to continue their evil deeds unabated. Effective immediately, I am ordering the Secret Service to begin investigations into anarchist groups engaged in violent activities to help local police break up these rings. Governor Nightmore was a respected member of this nation and a citizen of the highest character. His loss shall be felt not only in California, but across the country. My sympathies to his widow and family, and my solemn pledge to mobilize whatever Federal resources are available to prevent such barbarous attacks again.

Signed,
President Maximilian Mandrake
