((If anything we'd see a collapse of the libertarian party way before a coalition government. I predict initially breaking into a Radical liberal, and then Socialist faction (ASDLP), at which point that will probably break even more into its respective wings.))

(On a side-note, I would love to meet the other senator from Vermont)

"I would like to announce my radical support of the Libertarian Party. Coming next election, I hope to become a candidate for Vice-President or President. I am in old-age now, and achieving this would let me rest in peace. I find that although I may be hundreds of miles away, I had gained the trust of our Southern brothers, and if so I hope they will find myself one that could restore their honor! *Openly Weeps* My friends, do not blame the majority of the South for fighting for independence, they fought because we went down there, into their homes, into their lands! Ladies and Gentlemen, may God be with the Libertarians!"

Speech made by Vermont Senator Joel Edmonds in Washington D.C

To Which Wing of the Libretarian Party do you belong? Social Reformers, Trade Unionists, National Vinogradists, or Marxist Vinogradists?

((I think the New Democratic/Republican split is here to stay. We still have more issues than socialist stuff, and the Libertarians aren't mainstream enough to be the main liberal/centrist opposition))

I, Ignacio Vallejo, endorse Senator Jamous for the New Democratic nominations.

I would like to propose a bill granting citizenship to our Native friends. Indians have inhabited this land since time immemorial, and it is only fitting, in this era of equality and freedom, that they be granted the same rights afforded to the white man and negro. I certainly hope the president, my party, and all freedom loving peoples will support this bill.

Senator Henry J. Jarvis

((Random fact: Native Americans didn't get citizenship granted until Coolidge in 1928!))

I support this bill. As the party that abolished slavery and supports African American voting rights we also support native americans having the right to vote. I hope all parties can work together in passing this noble bill.

I Support this bill in principle. However, I believe that the Remaining Natives on US land not yet on reservations should be confined to reservations of thier own for both thier own Protection and to facilitate the continued migration west of the Northern Farmer. Schools should be widely availible on these reservations teaching all the same subjects as are taught to other American Children so that the next generation of Native Americans can Coalesce and Assimilate into american society without the difficulty or bloodshed that has carachterized earlier encounters with the Natives.

I find myself in the unusual position of agreeing with Mr Bryan, citizenship should most definitely be granted to our Native American friends, and that we have fought a bloody war for African American citizenship and not for them boogles the mind. However a Manifest Destiny demands that the lands are developed to the potential that European capital can achieve, their culture should be protected and understood further and schools on the plantations will aid in this worthy endeavor.
I would also like to add that the conventions for the parties are coming to a close and that anyone who wishes to make their opinion on the most honourable position of Presidential nominee should make their voice heard, and soon!

Edward Wilkinson Governor of Indiana

You may not agree with my economic and political ideals Mr. Wilkinson but I am a reasonable Man. I Request that some legislator write up a draft of this bill so that It can be finalized and completed in time to be voted upon along with the next election.

((Cameron already gave them citizenship. Everyone was so preoccupied with the SNM, north-south split and the Mexican war he managed to get through far more liberal reforms than anyone in OTL.))

((I Went through all the Cameron updates and failed to find this. Could you provide the link?))

2nd term

For Cameron, it was also a necessary victory; as he had been hit by severe criticisms form all sides for the forced removal of the Cherokee population in Arkansas to Oklahoma in April 1845. He saved himself by promoting Khur’s progress and giving the Cherokee population the same voting rights as the whites

[4] – For these two actions, negative and positive, Cameron is interpreted by the Cherokee as either a monster or hero.

((Forgive me, I thought it was all Indians, if it's just Cherokee then such a bill would still have a purpose.))

I support your bill Mr Jarvis. These people deserved to be recognised a long time ago and now they will get a voice.

Senator of Massachusetts & CEO of Howard Industries

I would gladly support this Bill. All people within this great nation deserve the chance of equal rights and equal representation, though I do not see the sense in continuing to keep the Natives on Reservations. Should we not let them to live where they like and adopt whatever culture or religion they choose to? We should not force them to continue to abide by their ancient culture, when our own has changed dramatically sense the first explorers and settlers came to this land.

I would have to review the particular laws that actually passed from the time, but I know Brass had a clear legislative agenda in his campaign to give citizenship to the Native Americans.
The Citizenship Act: Full suffrage to all male and female citizens of 20 or more years, with those same rights applying to the offspring of free people who are born in the US or territories held by the US. The Natives and other residents born after this act is passed will, when they reach 20 years, have full voting rights if they are non-felons in good standing with their taxes.
As for Natives, under my proposed citizenship act their children would become citizens automatically; but of course in order to register to vote or enjoy other rights beyond those afforded to all (due process and so forth) one must have or apply for a birth certificate or other identification and pay taxes. Should any Native wish to continue living in their territories or on one of our Eastern-style reservations and not assert their rights and duties as a citizen, who am I to tell them that they must? Mainly though, I am confident that within 20 years we will have made great progress in the assimilation of the Natives.
The Department of Citizenship was founded to manage these issues and support the extension of citizenship to these people ((before it became the cloak and dagger department to hide spy and bodyguard programs in :p )) on my suggestion.

((So Brass and Vallejo - the first Sec. of Citizenship - were both strongly for Native citizenship, and I don't think it was especially contested by anyone. However, it depends on whether such legislation just never got into debate due to the slavery and militia issues that seized the national attention. It was also noted in the Banner of Freedom Bill, but I don't think that ever got voted on due to the more pressing Civil War and other bills and actions making its slavery components obsolete))

Alrighty:

The polls are closed.

The candidates are:

Republican: Tony Demchak

New Democrat: Michael Jamous

Libertarian: Martin Beukes

The Banner of Freedom Bill was voted on and passed if I remember right, but just like the Cuban Liberty Bill, it was forgotten in the rush of the Civil War. And yes, they'd need to be amended a bit to take out the now irrelevant slavery bits. :D

If he is willing, I would be honored if Senator Bachmann would consider becoming my running mate. With my vision and his delicious cake, we shall be unstoppable in the coming election!

Congratulations, Senator Demchak, on winning our parties nomination!
Perhaps this revision to the Indian Citizenship Bill will bring more support:

1. All Native tribes that supported the Union in our bloody Civil War shall be granted citizenship.
2. Natives that remained neutral during the conflict (or joined us in the late stages of the war) shall gradually gain citizenship
3. Natives aligned to the Confederacy, or still hostile to our nation, will be granted citizenship only after a period of peaceful relations, or subjugation.
4. Reservations will remain; however, they will slowly be phased out so that the natives will become more Americanized.
5. While on reservations, they will be subject to their own law, but will be taught American jurisprudence, so they can be more easily brought into our society.
6. On first encounters with new native tribes, we shall offer peace, trade, and all the benifits of being an American ally. We should never be the first nation to fire a shot.

Any other proposals, or changes, or removal will go through Congress, and hopefully some form of this bill shall pass.

Senator Henry J. Jarvis of California

((This is just a more advanced Banner of Freedom Bill, since I can't remember in the slightest what it was meant to do *shrugs shoulders*. If this bill is uneccesary, then I'll edit everything other than the "Hooray for Demchak" part))

Being as I can't run again for president the next term, if I am elected it will provide an opportunity for the Libertarian Party as a whole to use the incumbency of the party as a whole to get a new candidate elected next time. This is why I appeal to party unity and to the people of this country in helping me get to the White House, not for myself but for us all.

In this spirit of brotherhood and after much difficult choosing from a large list of worthy candidates, I offer the vice presidency to either Senator Nightmore or Colonel Callahan, my worthy opponents in the primaries. I trust that the gentlemen will be able to decide among themselves which would be more willing to tolerate me, faults and all, for four years.
