To Councilman Leonard Jenkins of the Socialist Labor Party,

Good day, sir. My name is Michael Sullivan and I am the head of the Progressive Party, as you may already know from my Presidential candidacy four years ago. I believe we have a great deal in common, you and I, and I have the great pleasure to formally invite you and your Socialist Labor Party to join the Progressive Party, with yourself as a party officer.

As strong labor advocates and believers in economic and social justice, we can work together to strengthen the cause of fairness across the country and build a party with broad, lasting support. With your support in the Northeast and my political base in the Midwest, the Progressive Party will be a stronger, better organization capable of taking on both of the reigning political parties.

Enclosed you will find two train tickets to Springfield, where I look forward to speaking further with you in the governor's mansion with whoever you choose to bring. It is my great hope that we can find common ground together and make an announcement that will make social progress a lasting issue for the coming decades.

Sincerely,
Michael Sullivan
Governor of the Great State of Illinois
Founder, American Progressive Party
Dear Michael Sullivan
I think it is time this country had a new standard barrer for the cause of equality. My associates and I are currently on our way to Springfield and we will hammer out the details for the merger their.
Sincerely
Leader of the Socialist Labor Party
Leonard Jenkins.

(( Could the Federal Party Candidates please send me there platforms if elected.))
((As in, our potential platforms if we are elected - or to, if we are nominated, send our platform? Vallejo's is more or less the same as last election (so you could look to the last election update for what it basically would be - in short:
- Peace abroad with a military fit for peacetime (although by now I'd hope that the army has transitioned down from its WWI size already)
- A focus on international institutions to arbitrate and diffuse conflicts and give support to struggling nations
- Support for education and the ability for workers to educate themselves about their employment and consumption (including protections against fraudulent labeling and the like) and negotiate on an even footing with employers
- Reforms to prevent government and big business corruption.
- Increasing the openness and representational-ness of elections. )
))

I will endorse my Vice President, Simon Ritter, and would suggest making Horshington, or another pro-civil rights member of the party to the vice presidency, if only to ensure both the reformers, like myself, and the conservatives, like Mr. Stewart. That, in my opinion, would be the best course for the moderate candidate.

And whilst I could dismantle Sullivan's critique of my administration, I shall not waste my breath and energy, and instead focus all my efforts to ensure a third term in the White House for the Republicans, the best choice for America.

((Really, I would endorse Horshington, but Ritter was my VP, and a good one, so he'll gain my support))
Thats a shame but dont worry!
William, who had inherited the whole Horshington Fortune, will try his luck to run as president under the republican banner.

Speech to the American People

My dear fellow americans, our country had her ups and downs like any country in the whole world, but there is something special about us, which is that we resist them with proudness. From the revolution the British have been described as " disturbers of our liberty ", but today we aspired to create the perfect country, which i say is impossible, but nevertheless, we can create a semi-perfect one, if we work harder and help ourself more, cause we are american’s! We have passed great wars since our “creation” from the annexation o Texas till the World war, from the crisis to the recovery days, and we are still raising our banner, but, why don’t we raise it more, if you vote for me and the republicans, and we may do it like no one else did.
My Platform
Trade Policy : Free trade
We must keep our trade policies fixed for a short time, so that we can benefit more, free trade will permanently help our country in these recovery days, so that we make more profit to us and to the US
Economic Policy : State Capitalism
You don’t know if a factory owner is wise or not so we better, better, control our economy and fulfill with trust the hearts of our owners.
Religious Policy : Pluralism
I will tend to create a society balanced of christhians, buddhists, muslims etc. to li ve in harmony while respecting themselves
Citizenship policy: Full citizenship
No one in the USA should be discriminated in any way literally, nor misjudged.
War policy : Anti-military
The Army always serves, but just for one thing, the protection of the country against foreign agression nor intern agression against the laws, the people or properties.

OOC: Please do not consider my platform “socialist” ,it’s a shame you didn’t endorse Willy, Riccardo :p

Let me just say that I firmly endorse my Vice President; he is the best choice for moderation! If the Southerners want to win the White House, they can only do so with the support of the Northern Republicans. We all agree (well, most of us) on economic policy, and we all generally oppose war, so why divide ourselves solely on civil rights? We need reform, that is certain; if we turn our backs on the Negro, we will forever lose their support, and more importantly, our mantle of sensible reform. I support state rights, and I oppose federal interventionism, but I could not, and I will not, stand idly by and allow a man to be mistreated simply because he is not white! You would not want to be mistreated simply because your Southerners, no? Remember, my a grandfather and I supported Daniel Vallejo over Davis, simply because of his radical regionalism.

((So many segregationists and socialists... makes me sad in my happy thoughts... ))

(( Could the Federal Party Candidates please send me there platforms if elected.))

((But of course))

My campaign promises are as ever with a Federal manifesto, devoted to improving the lives of the people and ensuring economic stability:

The flat tax shall be abolished and we shall return to a progressive taxation system.

Direct government intervention in the economy shalln't be introduced, as the times do not require them. However redistribution through a properly funded welfare state shall ensure that all Americans can be educated, healthy, and not fearful or injury or old age.

Worker's rights laws, including the right to strike, shall not be violated.

A department devoted to investigating misconduct in the banking system shall be formed within the FBI and overseen by Congress.

Free trade shall exist within the Commonwealth; ourselves, Britain, France and Italy are the greatest industrial powers in the world, and the Commonwealth has been one of the prime reasons for our prosperity in recent years, thus we should continue the bond that exists between our nations.

Jim Crow should be opposed, compromise here would be weakness on our part and nothing short of cowardly. That's why I'd make sure appointments that can have an effect on these laws would have the right effect.

Revival of a League of Nations, which the League of American States and League of European States would be sub-organisations of.

Continued support for constitutional reform to make our system more accountable, representative and democratic.

((Riccardo your next character should be a communist, it would be amusing to watch. :p ))

Mr. Jarvis, do you deny, then, that your attempted intervention has pushed Southerners away from the Republican Party, rather than closer?

Your attempts to intervene on the issue have caused the Southern people to associate any challenge to Jim Crow as a challenge to the rights of their states, and so ultimately your policy of wielding the power of the federal government as a force of social engineering, a policy not too different from that of the Federals or the Democrats, has undermined the cause for Negro freedom.

Were the Southern states allowed to follow their own pace on the issue of civil rights, I believe they would ultimately be much more successful at eliminating the Jim Crow laws.

((I have considered it; I might just make a dumb little fun character for the next twenty years or so, since I really don't have anything set until the 40's, if we go that far))

Anything I have done to alienate the South, was in the defence of the Negro; any form of governmental expansion has been made with great reluctance, and I hope, once the need for them has ended, so would they end; however, the question should be, how have you promoted equality? How have you ensured that Negroes are not discriminated against? Every single thing I did is Constitutional, since we passed several amendments to ensure that their rights are protected; and while Harrison, and Hayden, and almost every one of my predecessors were content to maintain the status quo, I would not have that grave mark of segregationism blot my record as a true liberal. The South has had over six decades to rectify its mistakes, to reform their system, yet, at every step, have regressed to the prewar inequalities that much of the Civil War was waged over. Can they vote without fear? Can they live in peace? Can they even eat amongst White Men? If they can't, and you will do nothing, I will not support you; however, if you make concessions to support some action to bring about meaningful change, it would only be proper that should at least attempt to do the same.

We will, and I'd also like to correct a misconception that some people seem to have developed:

France is not a part of the Commonwealth. France an Italy were allied to us, but the Commonwealth is much more than just that.

As of 1924, the Commonwealth's members are the USA, UK, Canada, NZ, Australia, Philippines and Cuba.

((Oh, I thought it had been included as it was in the manifesto I got elected on to do so, and we then fought the war together. Sorry. :eek:o ))

Though I am reluctant to vote for someone who has already served a term of office, President Terrance's ambition to form a true League of Nations is more than enough to secure my vote in this primary.

OOC: Can someone give me a count of the votes?

GOP : 3 Sherman, 1 Ritter
FED : 1 Terrance
PRO : 1 Sullivan

((Is this just general slowness or are the Federals starting to lose support? Well, obviously the Progressives have something to do with it, but since my first term, pretty much only Terrance, McCahill(s) and Vallejo have been really active; adn combined with the Southern resurgence, the Republicans could very possibly dominate the next few elections...))

((It seems republican's have a big support they might win this, as for me i won't get voted for sure, also BBB can i create my own party, or the limit is just 3?))

Speech given in Shreveport

People of Louisiana, even though I have been voted for under the Federal party this election I must vote differently to maintain our personal interests. Other Federal party representatives want to change our Jim Crow laws right away, and get there noses into Southern business. The candidate that will leave the South alone and this person is Mr. John T. Sherman. I hope Mr. Sherman will keep this promise he promised this Primary. I also expect me to vote for him in this upcoming election, if he wins the Republican primary. I also expect the people of Louisiana to vote for him if they want politicians to leave the South alone.

- Governor C. Blancharde

So Now the count is:

REP: 4 to Sherman, 1 to von Ritter

FED: 1 to Terrance (This does not bode well for the Federales)

PRO: Sullivan winning by default

((I'm putting my money on Sherman winning this one, feel free to question my sanity))
