I am slightly confused and haven't really found an answer yet...is this game just on the HoI2 base or does it include the expansions as well? (I enjoyed the Armageddon scenarios)
Debating on buying it

the game is based off the europa engine which is featured in games like hearts of iron 2 +all expansions dd arma etc., eu 2, vicky 1, arsenal of democracy and others. it is best compared to hoi 2 dd+arma and simply improves the game slightly. it comes with 2 diff versions in the same purchase. DH lite which is basically a faster cleaner version of dd arma with dd arma map, scenarios etc. that you enjoy and dh full which has a new map, tech tree, events (there are none :( ) and only 2 scenarios (ww1 1914 and 1936 road to war) hope that explains it. although honestly its a decent game I would wait for a couple of patches before shelling out $10 as the ai is horrid and it only has 2 scenarios among other things.

I disagree with the guy above. Game is pretty awesome, if you like to do moding yourself its absolutely brilliant. Now, i have only played WW2 in full version, and i have to say its at least 10X better than Arma or whatever else HoI2-ish. Basically there are no problems with AI itself, simply some AI switches are not refined 100%, which is something moders will fix in a day or 2 if there is no patch by then. For example, in last few hours i have completely reverted DH new combat system to HoI2 style and same goes for units production, slider bonuses etc. I think this shows how awesome the game is :)

ya but should he pay $10 for a game thats basically in "beta" thats a shinier DD+ARMA I mean probably but not a sure bet. the fact that you had to change the combat system, unit times etc. shows there are problems with the game and I still would wait until the DH team irons out stuff based off feedback. the AI in WW1 scenario is truly horrid though as no one will start the war! i played for 3 years as Germany and there was no war in 1917. plus it only has 2 scenarios and the 1914 mod for dd+arma had better ai, induvidual ww1 battle scenarios and 3 grand campaigns. the only good thing about DH is the smoothness and speed as well as the new map although I thought Iron Cross map was better. IC had events a good tech tree etc. and DH completely got rid of events for "decisions" which is horrid. we shouldnt have to rely on a mod of a mod to make the game good. thanks for doing it though.

Look, this game is not HoI2 Arma, its a new game (at least i get the feeling thats what they aimed for). Like i said, i havent played WW1 (dont care much about that period i guess), but WW2 is fully playable, and AI is certainly not broken: in my German game everything happened much the same way as in HoI2 (altho i didnt get the Anschluss at first to fire in 38'), in my Soviet game, after partition of Poland, i made a mistake of removing all armies and putting them on border with Finland, thinking "yeah im gonna overload Finnish and bring them to socialism like i always do", but it didnt go as i planned: Germany attacked me :) and that was a lost game. You can pretty much expect to get 20ish hours of game play before the "differences" annoy you (if they do) to the point where you dont wanna play any more - at which point you either start moding like i did, or stop playing and get a mod (theres already a published mod). In either case id say game is definitely worth 10$, and even if its not 100% polished id say its definitely not like some Paradox titles which were not even alpha version on release. If i went out for a movie, even in a cheap ass sucky country like mine, id spend way more than 10$ on a single afternoon, so again IMHO its well worth 10$, if nothing else you will eventually play mods (im about to put together HoI2 style mod without mobilizations and new stuff like that).

yes its worth $10 I agree just saying he should wait until a few patches to save his time, effort and frustration. im only saying its based of Arma using the same engine and the "lite" version uses a lot of stuff from arma. ww2 is playable and the ai is fine but it only has one scenario in DH full (1936) and no other scenarios. worth $10 absoluteley and the mods will be great. DH with IC is already very good and so is the kaisereich mod.

Well, $10 isn't that much, so sounds like it's worth it. I need to learn the game all over again...been ages since I played a HoI, and I never did quite figure it all out in the first place :)

its good but AI difficulty doesnt really matter when your german empire just sits in moscow waving there flag back and forth.

it needs events it barely has any but i like the map/moblization/new look/tech tree/ww1 (even if it has so little timeline and so little events)
