You, socialists (Even if the term doesn't exist yet), have you taken a look at the policies of the Whigs and the Radicals?

Here we are, faced with the choice between two parties (And a third, but those don't count), the two of which can lead us in very different directions. One is currently proposing an increased army budget along with tax cuts for the rich, where the other is advocating progressive taxes and pacifism.

Try checking who supports what - The result may surprise you.

(( I presume a bit o' in-thread campaigning is okay? ;) ))

It was about this time when the word socialism started to come about. But it wasn't really a real movement until the latter 1840s. In RL, despite Marx residing in London from 1849, Marxism didn't really 'arrive' so to speak until the 1880s . Socialist movements around the same time. I already have ideas for the emergeance of a socialist movement - it will come earlier than the rl UK socialist movement but not for awhile anyway. ;)

Campaigning is of course ok and is indeed encouraged. Just don't spam.

Current polling figures BTW:

Whigs: 5
Radicals: 2
Tories: 1

Whigs on course for a majority. Sadly the overall turnout is pretty low with just 8 votes in all. :/

Well, the low amount of votes is probably due to the fact that:

1) It has been less than 12 hours since the election started.
2) The thread itself was only midway through the second page when you announced the election.

The AAR itself hasn't had the time to gather all that much interest, in no small part due to people's tendency to read mostly the well-established AARs (Read: Those with greater page-count). Thus, relatively few people are aware of its existence yet. It only two days ago, so it'll probably take some time before you have a lot o' readers. That said, it does seem awesome already, so I'm predicting a major increase in voting over the next week or so.

Also, this is the weekend. You'll have more voters once people have nothing to do at work but check AARs :)

Are we so different from our American bretheren, out there on the other side of the Atlantic?

We must look to our brothers, our family. We must see what they have done, and apply it in our homeland. We must show the world that Britain is no longer the tyrannous villainy it was before, nor a power-hoarding, "enlightened" dictatorship like that of Napoleon, but a land where its people are sovereign and free, a place that knows and opposes tyranny in all its shapes and forms.

My vote goes to the Radicals.

((Excellent start! I've been longing for something to fill the void left by Let the Ruling Classes Tremble, and I believe I have found it! Let's just hope you don't get slammed like Tommy did :( ))

Whigs, until the socialists show up, these guys seem to be okay, though I rather dislike that policy of decreased military spending; wimps and sissies don't rebuild empires y'know.

I agree; I would think that the followers of Marx would oppose tax cuts for the rich and would side with the abolition of child labour and the provision of subsidies for the poor.

We must support the torries! Only through isolation of france and strong ties with our Prussian brethren can the empire be restored and Britian be a name feared and revered not only in Europe but also in the whole world. ONWARD BRITANNIA !!!

But why would we want our name to be feared and/or revered? Truely, what would this bring us? Is recognition as a sovereign nation not enough? Must we keep on fighting, fighting, fighting, poking our noses in other people's businesses, suffering countless American Revolution after countless American Revolution, until Britain is a country composed of nothing but corpses from sending our men out to die for a war that they do not fight of their own wills, but the will of a single man whose only claim to power is that of his father's or his mother's claim, going onward and onward until we go back to barbaric times when fools claimed that their power came from God, not from the consent of the governed?

We are not the same warmongering, despotic empire we used to be. Even if the people of Britain really wanted to be a player in international affairs (which I can assure you they do not), Britain is not ready to even attempt to act like our threats hold any of the weight they used to.

If the Tory's most vocal supporter can't spell their name right, you know something's gone wrong. Why vote for them anyway? Their top policy is that we need to randomly choose somebody as a monarch because there needs to be a monarch to oppress us all! You also notice they keep quiet about why they want the monarch restored, which is clearly a blatant bit of politicking to disguise their intentions to return to the days where rulers claim their right to rule came from birthright, not the consent of those they governed! What's so endearing about all that?

P.S Attacky (you get your real name back when you stop calling me Welshy), can we change our votes? We might need those radicals later...
