Map Editor Video Tutorials (10 videos!)

I think we should try to gather the Map Editor tutorials in one thread to keep the forums as clean as possible.

If anyone has any questions regarding how or why I do things, feel free to ask. And I'd love to get some input from the developers if you have anything I should add or get better at explaining in the videos.

Adding water
I saw a few of you guys asking about how to add water to the map, so I made a video about it. I also included a practical example where I built up a park area based around the water. Enjoy!

Making a mountain. And a road to go on top of it.
During this video you will see me explaining the basics of making a mountain, and preparing the mountain for roads. You will see me find workarounds for the problems that arise.

Yes, this became a long video. 9 minutes in total. I left it uncut to show you that it's not done in 1-2-3 and that It takes time to handle these tools. Practice, practice, practice!

Industrial harbor
It's long, so this might be ideal for those who need a kick in the right direction to plan, build and detail an area of the city.

A little more on roundabouts
Thanks to Gogomaester for this tip!

Airport
This takes you through the very basics. Only a little on detailing stuff. And there's a piece in there with a request for the developers too! ;)

Building metro tracks
From underground to ground, to elevated tracks.
Not directly Map Editor related, but I still think it's important for anyone who hasn't understood how building metro tracks works.

Sharing or installing a custom map
Looks like there's some confused minds on the forums. So here's a visual guideline on how to install a custom map made by others.

Thank you!
I'm quite new to the map editor myself, but I feel comfortable using it. It has its less logic ways of doing things, but as most things in life - there's workarounds for it.

I saw someone asking for making mountains and roads on them. I think my next video will cover that.

lol nice video. I dont think its difficult to make roads going up or so, i think the difficultest thing is to Make the Mountain loo realistic. But its not so hard with Soften tool:

Check my MAP
Hodkovice nad Mohelkou is now OUT
Version: 1.3

Yes, haha, I was very clumsy..

That's impressive work. :) I didn't know there was a grid function. Didn't think there was one available since it didn't have its own button in the UI. So seeing your images now made me dig into it.. NICE FIND! :)

This will really make it easier to make maps.

I know you haven't seen how I made that harbor yet, I'm currently uploading. It's a LONG video... :) Will post it when it's done processing at Youtube.

Nice indeed. I just covered the very basics of it, really.. :)

The first roundabout you have there, looking at the camera angle in the mini map.. That road is a "straigt 90 degree", right? It's not a 45 degree like I did my first roundabout? I like that look much better than the second one I build, but I haven't figured out a way to do it like the first one with straight angles.

Hey, would you mind making videos too? FRAPS, convert, upload and share! :)

Oh Sweet! I'm definitely subscribing to this one.

Thank you for producing these videos (to all that do)
