Both Sweden and Denmark will be represented by units in the game. Not decided on Gotland class yet, but the wide interest for them is noted
Cool! The Gotland class, JAS 39 Gripen and Visby class would probably be the three most distinct Swedish units.

I hope you find time to include them, and given the large Swedish fanbase that Paradox published games have it would probably be a decent bussiness move aswell!

Further including a more complete setup of Swedish, Nowegian and Danish (and perhaps Finnish) military units would make the game truly unique. The market is flooded with USA vs Russia wargames.

Is the AO restricted to the arctic or will it include the Atlantic and Baltic?

Will we see naval mines?

What is the actual battle area? Just north sea or Atlantic, Baltic, and such?

The entire North Atlantic region, roughly everything from the UK northwards. It will include at least the east cost of North America to the west, and western Russia almost to Moscow in the east. So the Baltics are in the map.

The GIUK gap is probably where most of the fighting will take place, but obviously we'll want a bit of variation!

I can"t wait !

well actually yes I can so that you guys can make a really good game, with better AI and a truly dynamic campaign where what happens (ship sinkings etc...) actually influence the outcome !

Question about the campaign. Will the there closed closed missions were you have to do precisely what developers want to happen (ie strike this airfield, or sink with ship) like in Combat Flight Simulator WWII Europe Series, or will it be more open such as you as the player dictate what happens, such as in Combat Flight Simulator 3: Battle for Europe. An open campaign would be more fun as you can conduct whatever missions you want to beat the computer, such as raid there homeport to try and cripple them before that have a chance to fight, or conducting raid with fast frigates along the enemies coastline to lure the fleet out of protective areas and in to the jaws of of your fleet hiding in around an ice pack or distant island. rather than having the a mission just pitting two carrier fleets against each other.

Lyell: There will be "closed" missions with set objectives in the campaign. There really must be some way for the computer to know you've beaten it and completed the mission, after all :) We want to have a lot of variation: obviously various forces opposing each other where the objective is destroying a key unit/airfield, as well as escort, sub hunt, surface only, etc, etc. For most missions, there should be different ways of beating it: getting air supremacy, sneaking in your subs, massive surface engagement, stealth bomb run, etc, etc.

There will also be skirmish missions, which sounds like what you prefer. Since the map is already there, it will be really easy both for us and modders to make several different missions, where you can really try out all the fun stuff we didn't even think about.

Julian: I'm off for vacation tomorrow (so responses here may be a bit slow in the coming weeks), but I'll pass on word to the others to post a picture of the (provisional) map.

Thanks for the answer!

For your reference, and as a small teaser, here is a quick print out of the game map as it exists today. Note that this is not necessarily how it will look in the finished game. The print out is in 2D (obviously), from the 3D map that the game will employ. In this map it will be possible to zoom down in great detail for accurate positioning of units. Depths, as indicated, will also be in 3D, with a water plane above.

The game will also feature 3D terrain as seen from the ocean floor. That, however, is a separate view that we will show you later.
