This will be my First AAR so expect to either fail quickly or not even start at all mainly if I fail to get the pictures up as I have never tried to do so before and then if I'm quickly defeated by someone but other than that this should go ok at best.

Where we stand:

v214.jpg

Well Spain to the north as soon as it sorts out it's rebel problem will on us like a tiger but basically anyone with a navy in range could attack and kill us so not good.

First Update should follow soon if this works

By the way I'm on very easy difficulty as I'm rubbish at this game despite regularly playing either suicidal or very hard nations

Ok it works good now lets get started

v28gm.jpg

Now we have 12 divisions of Irregulars (must replace with Infantry as soon as possible)

Over 400k population and growth!!!!!
For now.

v27d.jpg

I start researching Freedom of Trade as Money is very tight for now.

v211.jpg

I immediately adjust the Budget

v212.jpg

v210.jpg

Most of my people are farmers and belong to my Primary Culture which is ok

v29t.jpg

I produce a mix bag of Products but hopefully this will expand in time

v213.jpg

I set my national focus to Rabat to get more clergy (it's my most populous region).

v215.jpg

After unpausing I get an alliance offer from Tunis (rejected) and Sokoto and Algeria (both accepted) I doubt either will join in a war but I might get lucky.

I little later Tunis gets in war with France at this point I thought well it's a good thing I rejected their offer.

v216.jpg

Decaying Budget Situation forces cuts but it's continues to decay.

v217.jpg

I then get my first General and he's okay.

Aims: Survive, Expand, Conquer the basic 3 really but survive may be as far as I get.

I'll definitely be following. Good luck; you're going to need it!

Woohoo! I'll definitely be following this! :)

Looks like the Tunisian AI tried to replicate my "ally with Morocco and get a truce with France and Spain" strategy but without success... It will be the first to go, as usual.

Replies to comments may break down if lots of people post time isn't infinite

thanks and yep they do go but I usally find they hit Algeria first but maybe my allaince discouraged them

good luck, expect visiting Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, French, Italians... wait that one is only when i play an Italian nation :p

Spanish you'll see
Dutch let them come
Portugese I'm rather hopeing they'll go after setif at the moment
French we have nothing to fear except fear itself and the french

I've got an update planed should come around today

Peace for all it's merits is at best temporary as the grand nation of Tunis found out earlier now it is our turn, The infidel nation of Spain declares war on the grand nation of Morocco and they shall pay for their arrogance
v218.jpg

Soon A grand Spanish army crosses straits to engage my vastly superior forces.
v219.jpg

Plans are made to defeat these arrogant Infidels but are thrown into chaos when a second Spanish army arrives intent on war.
v220.jpg

However attrition has eaten away at one of the Spanish armies and the glorious leader Halil al-Sirti spots an opportunity to damage the Spanish invaders and merges 3 armies and marches to war.
v221.jpg

Just before the battle is joined a new smaller Spanish force appears led by an Infidel general, he will cause much trickery
v222.jpg

we engage the Spanish and win a glorious victory and we go after there fleeing remnants using hidden routes to arrive before them
v223.jpg

But alas despite putting the enemy infantry to flight our brave warriors are forced from the field by an artillery bombardment.
v224.jpg

But our brave warriors returned and crushed them.
v225.jpg

As we launch an attempt to regain lost land our Brave Comrades from Tunis are utterly defeated despite brave resistance and a few victories.
v226.jpg

After reclaiming Tangier we launch an assault on a weak Spanish force but reinforcements arrive and we are forced to flee.
v227.jpg

However arrogance shows again and their forces split allowing us to pick them off one by one.
v228.jpg

v229.jpg

Our victories have reduced Spanish forces to nothing what can stand in our way now (except the French).
v230.jpg

Desperate to regain the momentum they land a force down in the south of Morocco but it is no match for our forces.
v231.jpg

v232.jpg

Despite the war all is good for our nation which is learning new things from Far away nations like Freedom of Trade whatever that be.
v233.jpg

this drastically improves our wealth and with our new found wealth we escalate the war with the Spanish.
v235.jpg

Our leaders of the greatest cunning make a plan to plot more mischief with a fleet to seize Spanish holding we currently are unable to get through land routes.
v236.jpg

This soon proves valueless as the weak stomached infidels crumple and give in to our demands with their armies shattered.
v237.jpg

I predict that soon the Spanish may decide to repay this insult a million times. I put my faith in our leader of the men on the ground to always find a way to victory.

Excellent work! If you could beat Spain, you can beat anyone! (except for France. Fear France...)

The newly acquired region was poor. At only 4000 people it was vastly underpopulated and it was even inhabited by several of the infidels who made up about a third of the population. Regardless they would soon be educated and convert to the true faith.

v238.jpg

Our warriors had done well in the last war but our leaders could see though this deceptive veil. They knew we were heavily out classed by the Infidel forces and so adapting their troops and tactics to better suit the people and climate they would be working with they reformed 3 divisions of western style infantry from Irregulars.

v239.jpg

Our researches looked into new ideas coming from the west and planed a review of some of the newer philosophies that were coming from the north after much preparatory study into it. After this plans were made to look into military staff system and post Napoleonic thought while looking into particular branches of this philosophy.

v240.jpg

A field test of the new infantry shows just how much better they are. With their new tactics and armaments they can fire quicker and hold formation better in the face of fire. This is truly amazing how can those weak Spanish could hold against these troops.

v241.jpg

As a lesser note our standing has improved and tales have reach our capital of how we are spoken of in many Courts of the western powers some feeling that they have been insulted and other deciding to keep their distance. Regardless this could improve our standing and make us better known so how can we lose. Some cowards feel that this will lead to wars we can't handle, we'll show those hapless pessimists the greatness of Morocco.

Early in September 1841 we heard the disastrous news that our neighbours and friends Algeria had been attack by Spanish troops. Their leaders lacking the skill and cunning of ours would struggle to halt Spanish forces. Then suddenly we heard more news that the French had interned on the side of Algeria and declared war on them for taking one step too far into their zone of friendship. Following this we sent messages of Diplomatic goodwill to the French hoping to get ourselves placed in their good books.

v242.jpg

v243.jpg

Some of the court laughed at this as they saw how disunited the hapless Infidels were but of course not a single word of this was leaked to the French ambassador he case he overreacted. The war was according to newspapers and informants we had was brutal being mostly fought in the those mountains on their mutual border. We care little for western names for places but it would feel good to one day have troops or even land within sight of those great bastions.

Our luck was good as soon after this a local came with great news to one of our government outposts in the desert. He had apparently found diamonds in territory we directly held as in these deserts their are few boundaries that mean anything. After confirming these claims we organised the local to begin extraction of them to fund the governments coffers. With our new found wealth we ordered the construction of a grand Fleet of 3 frigates to escort our transports who had few defences of their own.

v244w.jpg

As time continued to pass and the daily running of our country pressed ahead we heard a shudder in the diplomatic community and lots of worried small talk between diplomats. Investigating further we discovered much to horror and amazement that there had been a revolution in not any country but the leading power Great Britain as Jacobins had risen up and down their homeland and seize control of the government. This had the adverse effect of allowing their puppets in India to break free of Imperial control shattering local British power over much of India while Spain rapidly resumed friendly relation with them possibly out of desperation most other nation remain sceptical of them and feared their plans to spread revolution.

v245.jpg

However on one fateful day in a packed room the Infidel Spanish Ambassador gave a short but devastating message to our glorious leader. When he read it out all were quiet for a moment before forcing the Ambassador to flee through a hail of projectiles with only good luck seeing him out the door alive. There were shouts of defiance outside his door before he was dragged out and killed by the waiting mob.

v246.jpg

Once more we are at war and soon I fear that all the strength that our warriors posses can stop the endless tide of the Infidels

Nice, really quite some skill there. Where are your long term goals? African unification? Maybe even reconquest of the moorish lands?

Skill that wasn't skill that was a mix of being in the right place at the right time and opportunism. Goals well let me see one is outlined in the last update but apart from that crushing as many Infidels as possible would do nicely

Thank you for taking part in Writing with the StAARs Competition! Your choice of Morocco will be interesting, since in most of the games I've played 2 countries constantly declare war: Portugal and Spain. Good luck!

I can see there being plenty of wars with Spain in the coming years, if you can survive. Good luck!

Spain are wimps there army at the moment is really non-existent they'll only be able to mount a similar size force to the first one if they mobilize which even if they do I'm I'll be able to handle it

The war with the Spanish was viewed in a distinctly mixed light. Some argued it could be a jumping off point to greater glory and an opportunity to drive the Spanish Infidels from African lands with the claiming of their Islands off the coasts. Others felt it was evidence that our claiming of their land would only Invite more retribution. Regardless the opening shots of the war fell distinctly in our favour. A Spanish force was driven back after attempting to acquire a foothold in Moroccan territory with our brilliant general well versed in defensive tactics ( he's great +4 defence makes a mess of any attack can't imagine what he could do with Infantry). However it was noticed that some Spanish troops were Irregulars and some thought that the Cheaper Irregulars might be evidence of Spanish Budget problems. Regardless this victory was widely celebrated.

v247.jpg

With our victories over the Spanish we felt strong enough to seize more land from the Infidels in particular a group of Islands of the Coast called the Canaries by the Infidels. This hope for greater glory was universally welcomed by the court who felt this was a good acquisition as it contained a naval base which we otherwise wouldn't have access to western style ship repairs needed for our fleet.

v248.jpg

Later the Dutch Ambassador came to visit our Glorious leader in person with what was described as vital news.
Dutch Ambassador: You see now, my superiors have heard about your rich diamond mines in Taza region and they feel that they could run them far better than you ever could.
Moroccan Leader: Are you saying that you'll provide technology to aid our extraction efforts in Taza?
DA: No, of course not what we are saying is that we are going to take them off your hands permanently as well as any other land in that region. You can hand them over peacefully but don't underestimate Dutch might.
ML:Then it is war we will not give up one inch of our land to infidels like you.
DA: It appears you have made your choice and I will now leave you to your Barbaric ways.
ML: ( pulls out a pistol) Yes you will leave us, permanently.(shoots Dutch Ambassador) Guards what are you doing just standing their raise the alarm we are now in two wars at once.

v249.jpg

Then a second Spanish force arrived but our great leaders of men Drove them back from whence they came.

v250w.jpg

Influencing events in North Africa in their own favour the French decided to indirectly intervene and declare war on Spain apparently for Catalonia but many in the court suspected that they didn't want Spain to win our war. Regardless Spanish ships withdrew after several clashes that had battered our fleet and sunk a Spanish Frigate. But the Spanish admitted defeat and gave us their Atlantic Islands called the Canaries. We also engaged and destroyed a Dutch fleet of Frigates for the loss of only a few clipper transports.

v251.jpg

Later while engaging a second Dutch fleet the Dutch's courage failed them and they pulled out of the war. During this time we finished Post Napoleonic thought, established Private banks and were working on a Bill of Rights for our nation to assist us in motivating them. But nothing could have prepared us for the loss of the Hero of the first Moroccan-Spanish war Halil Al-Sirti died and the mourners were on every street for days and he had a truly grand Funeral worthy of his Greatness.

v252.jpg

Peace has now returned but Many fear that this is not the end but just the Beginning. How many more Invasions by the Infidels will we have to turn back before they learn their lesson and leave Morocco in peace until the people of our Grand Nation choose to go to war.

This could be like the Tunisian AAR I followed, where if you can survive the initial few years of attacks by every man and his dog, you'll have a good chance to go far.
