How did I know you would make the Philippines a major factor in world politics? :3

Since the Philippines is a major US ally(in fact, the Philippines is one of the 4 major US allies in the Pacific(Japan, South Korea and Australia are the others)), I think that the Americans wouldn't take lightly to a Russian invasion. Also, the rise of Russia has already spooked the Europeans and Chinese, even more so by the recent coup in Iran. So, they also wouldn't take likely to such an invasion. And then, there's Poland and the Baltic states, where many people lived through the oppression of czarist Russia and the Soviet Union, so their governments (besides the U.S., Japan, and Australia) are the most vocal opponents to this invasion, too.

On the other hand, Serbia and Iran would congratulate the Russians on taking such a bold step, as will the Indian government, as they are mostly allied to Russia (Serbia and Iran even more so)

Chapter III, Section III: Vpered v Manilu! Dlya Pobedy!

With news of the Iranian Revolution and the continuing war in the Philippines already in the minds of American politicians and the public at large, many still wanted to declare war with the Russian Empire not only for invading one of their allies in the Pacific, but also for supporting a rogue state like Iran [1]. Still, President Putin did not notice; in fact, he was glad of all the help that Iran could give to the war effort, especially in the way of fighter planes being sent to bomb military targets across Luzon, including Philippine Army positions on the island. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Serdyukov met with Gen. Bakin and another general, Valery Gerasimov, to discuss the course of the war. They agreed to start another invasion in Luzon to back up the invasion force in southern Quezon Province.

At the same time the Iranians were throwing away the shackles of 26 years of Islamic rule, President Putin received a briefing that a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, published a series of cartoons lampooning the Islamic prophet Muhammad, triggering days of protest across the Islamic world, and threatening to destabilize American operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Surprisingly, the Muslims in the Russian Empire and their allies were mostly quiet, due mostly to the presence of Russian and allied troops keeping order.

Meanwhile, Russian troops had invaded the Bicol Peninsula and were poised to strike the Visayas region. Philippine fishermen eventually saw the Russians bypass Samar and invade the islands of Masbate and Leyte. The same island that Gen. Douglas McArthur landed to free the Philippines from the Japanese invaders in the GPW, were taken by surprise. Within hours they had reached the city of Tacloban and defeated a squadron of enemy units in the city, driving them out into Samar. Only in the 24th did the Russians take the San Juanico Bridge and capture all of Samar, capturing or killing the rest of the divisions in the Eastern Visayas.

The Russian victory in Tacloban led to the total occupation of Leyte, with casualties between 750-1,000 people on the Philippine side, and 20 on the Russian side.

At the same time the Russians were making gains in the Visayas, Plan B of the invasion of Luzon sprung into action, on orders from Gen. Bakin. It called for a massive amphibious assault by 70,000 troops into Lingayen Gulf, in the northwest of the island. And though there were clashes between Philippine Army positions around the gulf, especially in the city of Dagupan, the invasion was met with little resistance overall. By the following day, Russia controlled the gulf and was poised to take Central and Northern Luzon, while 25,000 Philippine troops marched from Baguio to face the Russians head-on.

President Putin was pleased with the campaign so far, and congratulated Gen. Bakin for his efforts in the front. He even predicted that the country could fall by New Year’s Eve, even though Defense Minister Serdyukov cautioned to the President that the size of the Philippines, as well as the current number of troops deployed [2], would mean that the war would not be over until at least mid-January. Meanwhile, Gen. Bakin would set up his HQ in the captured city of Legazpi, and contact Mr. Serdyukov to discuss the next step in the invasion.

For now at least, time (and the climate [3]) were on their side

[1] Despite the fact that Iran now is a democratic state that even recognizes Israel's right to exist, the Americans feared that should war with the Russians start, they might invade American positions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
[2] One other factor that wasn't mentioned is the poor system of roads that would bog down the Russian armies in the Philippines, especially in Southern Mindanao
[3] At the time of the invasion, the Philippines is in the dry season (like most tropical climates at around this time)

It is certainly never dead. I am currently transferring this AAR (and all of my AARs) to a new forum, where I'll post new updates there.
