Loved the alt reality Hindenburg. Oh the humanity! I've heard that piece you quoted is used in journalism courses as an example of bad reporting, because the guy loses all objectivity. Understandable reaction in my opinion.

Just one nitpick... Why the heck is "Queen Elizabeth" class battleship still in the UoB fleet? Some monarchist sentimental unrest among the workers? ;)

British workers are probably tired of arranging the blocs that create the ships and this is probably their sign of peaceful protest against pointless work for pointless pay.

I hope that angry British workers won't bring down their Collective Regime of Peace and Love, Soviets will need Syndicalist friends when the party in Europe begins.

;)

@SovietAmerika - I was very surprised at that. But can they keep the momentum? We'll find out.

@Ahriman - I didn't know that. You learn something everyday.

@Jedrek - There some mixed up happened when I merge Cold War mod with Kaiserreich. I'll be using Syndicalist names from now on.

@Zhuge Liang - THat is just the beginning, comrade ;)

@Asalto - Madness, comrade! The Union of Britain is definitely a Socialist state that care for the people like me. Mosley's Maximists are the largest faction in the CTU (not the majority however)

Writing the update. Hopefully, it'll be finished by today or tomorrow.

Flames of the Summer

The bells of the local church in Llerida rang endlessly by the Guardia Civil. Alfonso fired a shot. He missed. Cursed at himself. Reloaded his Mauser. Click-click. Click-click. Fired again. Bam! He hits his target behind a headstone. Released his deep breath. He was hiding behind a wrecked car on a battle-ravaged street and in front of him, he can see the cemetery and the church. The place was turned into a make-shift fortress by the Guardia Civil.

“You're late!” scolded by his superior. Deep inside he is kicking himself. He grabbed the Mauser and the small bag filled with clips from his mate.

“Alfonso!” someone grabbed his shoulder and shook him. “Alfonso! Let's go to the left flank and secure the book store.” he said it in Spanish with a very thick accent “From there, we rain down on those bastards with our machine gun and push them out of the cemetery.” Alfonso only nodded and watched as the stranger shouted at his comrades with a language he doesn't understand.

“...and after Barcelona is liberated. We will march to all the way to Llerida and captured it. That is our battalion's objective. Remember, comrades. We must secure Llerida to keep Barcelona safe from counter attacks by the army coming in from the Huesca. The.. ermm Specionas [sic] from our comrades in Russia will be supporting us.” everyone on the secret meeting absorbed every information him gave them

cnt-fai.jpg

Unlike in America where the industrialised north was basically the private turf of the CSA, the banned CNT-FAI was heavily suppressed by Madrid. The whole preparation must go unnoticed and without outside help, the revolution might turn into a disaster before it started.

A window was shattered but the main attention of the defenders was at the stick grenade that broke through it as it bounced and rolled through the room. The gang went in after the explosion, Alfonso followed behind. Inside, his whole vision was blocked by hundreds of papers fluttering around. Gun fire from both sides. Before he could take aim, the ground floor was clear. The Russians have lobbed another grenade at the upper storey. Another explosion rang into his ears. Alfonso and the Russians then ran into the rooms with their bayonets fixed annihilating the garrison.

“Alfonso! You and Tolya will stay here, set-up the machine guns, fire at the troops on the cemetery. We will go down to set up perimeter.”

Two Degtyaryov were quickly installed and rained fire on the graveyard. Flanked by machine gun fire, the Guardia Civil receive huge casualties and soon were forced to retreat into the church. The CNT-FAI militias then followed them, set-up TNTs on the front door and stormed the church supported by the Degtyaryov machine guns shredding through the stained glass windows. A couple of minutes later the bells of the church ceased. Llerida was liberated. Barcelona's north flank is secured.

From Barcelona by the Spanish-French borders to Almeria by the Western tip of the Mediterranean Sea. The uprising of CNT-FAI turn a small revolt into a full-blown civil war. Just like their comrades at the other side of the Atlantic, Spain was covertly backed by the major members of the Internationale by feeding them with intel, supplies, advisors and well-trained volunteers. Some of the volunteers were newly created groups just for this mission. They will be the predecessors of these nations' special forces.

spain1937jun.png

As the revolution escalates, the Internationale now openly backed CNT-FAI after sending aid covertly a few months before. Germany reacted by sending their own aid to stop the people's revolution. The reactionary French have crossed the borders of the Spanish lands in Africa, both Madrid and Barcelona can't do much about it. Many Spanish families, mostly wealthy ones who can afford the cost to travel, have emigrated out of their homeland to avoid the fires of war. The most popular destinations of them all were Mexico and Centroamerica, main reasons were because they were both countries that speak Spanish and they also want to experience the worker's paradise. Both Mexican and Centroamerican government have officially welcomed the refugees with open arms.

In 26th of May 1937, Reed receive a message no one ever expected. A personal message from Long. It's not the act of sending a personal message that surprise the whole Syndicalist cabinet, it was its content. An offer to arrange a meeting between the two parties for an alliance against MacArthur. Reed considers the proposal, both the Syndicalists and Firsters received a beating from the Federal army. An alliance between the two losing camps make sense but in the end, he decline Long's offer. Such an unholy alliance would be unpopular with the people.

acw10.png

But soon warfare would be no longer about Socialists versus Capitalists. War have spread to more regions as the Kremlin received intel that the Koreans have made an organized rebellion against their Japanese overlords. Unfortunately, Russia cannot grabbed this opportunity in their current situation.

korearebel.png

Romania have planned for its revenge against its neighbour, Bulgaria, by establishing the Belgrade Pact. Now she declared war to recover her lost lands when she was defeated in the Great War. Later on, Greece and Serbia have joined the war against Bulgaria. Berlin was terribly unamused by the aggression to her Great War ally. Germany declared war against the trio in support of Bulgaria. They are now at impossible odds fighting the whole Mitteleuropa.

romanianbulgarianwar2.png

belgradepact2.png

(Note: For some reason Germany didn't declare war on Romania for some reason. They only did later on.)

And in June 13, the Turko-Kazakh War have officially ended with Turkestan as the supreme winner of the conflict. This is very alarming to Kremlin as the expanding nation might get some ideas on Russia while she was busy against Mongolia.

alashordaturkwar3.png

---------------

From May 23, the Red Army enjoyed victory after victory, gaining Tomsk, Kolpachevo and Yenisejsk with only a defeat at the heavily contested city of Tomsk, which is the only escape route for the Mongolian divisions still trapped at Kargasok.

During this optimistic improvement of the army, Tukhachevsky have submitted another material which was named “The Large Front and the Operational Art Theory” in which for the first time in military history, the operation level (the middle ground between strategic level and tactical level) was clearly defined and officially written down in detail. However, Tukhachevsky is still not satisfy. He still haven't completely integrated the Mongolian fast and mobile warfare into the Red Army's style of fighting.

largefront.png

At the 14th of June, the whole of Russia went ecstatic when they read the headlines of Pravda: “DEVASTATING VICTORY AT KARGASOK!” It was just like in the civil war when they surrounded and defeated the Imperial troops at Tikhvin. Capturing only two Mongolian division at Kargasok wasn't really that decisive in reality but it was a psychological victory for Russia and it shows that the Red Army is now alive and kicking after the slow and frustrating performance during the first phase of the war. Bukharin personally sent a telegram to the military and especially to Tukhachevsky for the job well done.

Congratulations on the world-changing victory at Kargasok Comrade! ;)

Facing the Mad Baron

The whole foundation of the country fell down after CNT-FAI's uprising. The Carlists, not to be left behind, have also risen up in the Northern parts of Spain. In June 15, skirmishes have occurred between the two radicals nearby Saragossa. The chaos in Spain became similar to the United States as both conflicts were three-way conflicts.

The new participant wasn't friendless though. Ireland and North Italy, members of the Catholic Alliance, have supplied their ally with arms and volunteers but Portugal didn't. The Pope personally announced his support to the Carlists. The Nationalist France have supported the Carlists as well.

On the other side of the river, the CNT-FAI received more support from the Internationale. Mexico, Brazil and South Italy all cheered for the new Socialist nation. Soviet supplies have now reached the port of Barcelona after a long travel from Leningrad.

scw3.png

As the new Carlist Spain have been formally established, the GRU have quickly received a juicy information from it. The GRU have coordinated with the British MI6 and the French Deuxieme Bureau officers in Spain and both intelligence service have confirmed the information obtained. The Carlists were planning an assassination on the Spanish king. The information was forwarded to the CNT-FAI with a plan on using it against Madrid. The plan was to offer Madrid, to surrender completely to the CNT-FAI in exchange of the safety and clemency to both the government and the royal family. Sadly, the offer was refused.

In the 15th of June 1937, 9 Red Army divisions under the command of Lieutenant General Kulik have met Sternburg himself with his 4 Mongolian divisions. 2 cavalry and 2 infantry. At first, it was the usual hit-and-run cavalry tactics but the next one was unexpected. Artillery. For the first time, the Red Army received an artillery barrage from the Mongolians but the effects weren't that devastating as the Soviets returned with a bigger barrage of hell to the Mongolian positions. The next day, Sternburg retreated towards the town of Asino across the river Ob, the Soviets followed through the narrow river-crossing but were counter-attacked by the cavalry, infantry and artillery as they cross the river. The battle rages on for the river-crossing. After an hour, Kulik decided not to lose more men and call for the retreat.

battle4.png

A month later, the Red Army met Sternburg's army again but now only half of its force with the other half still in Asino. With overwhelming numbers and tanks, the Mongolian army was easily dislodged out of the city.

battle5.png

And in the 10th of July 1937, Achinsk is captured, trapping the remaining two division in Asino. At this point, the Mongolian defence is pretty much broken. The Soviets are now focus on marching straight to Yakutsk and Kyzyl. The situation looks hopeless for the Mad Baron.

mongolcavalry.png

Even though the Mongolian cavalry is still a force to be reckon with, by the Spring and Summer of 1937 and after Tukhachevsky's reforms, they are no longer feared as they once were during the beginning of the war.

---------

On June 21, the Ministry of Armaments have reported that they have released a new tank design. Unfortunately, the budget was still focused on upgrading the existing army. And the following month, another breakthrough was achieved. A better equipment for the cavalry.

soviettech1937jun.png

---------------

In the Balkans, Austria-Hungary have annexed Serbia into Austria's control in July 28. Then the Romanians have finally engage Mitteleuropa troops the next day. The Ottoman Empire have declared war on Germany afterwards.

austriaempire4.png

(Note: I don't know why the Belgrade Pact weren't allied in the first place.)

Now looking at our struggling comrades in Spain and in America:

Both the Firsters and the Syndicalists have improved a little as the Southerns have recaptured their capital and reach all the way to Mississippi. The CSA have New York recaptured and also pushed back the Federal troops. However, situation of the Syndicalists is still dire.

usa1937july2.png

In Spain, the Carlists have captured Tarragona cutting Barcelona to the rest of CNT-FAI and the Southern front collapsed against the Royal army.

spain1937july2.png

After all the aid that were sent, the Internationale could only watch with worry.

---------

22nd of July 1937. Severo-Yenisejsk

A couple of Russian sentries are in a trench facing the river Enisey and after that was the endless steppes with some occasional trees here and there dotting the land and on their backs is the town of Severo-Yenisejsk. They were just lazily enjoying their afternoon. There's nothing to do which is great after the march. All they want is rest. One of them yawned, scratched his right cheek then looked at the horizon again. Suddenly, he saw something. At first, he thought it was just a cloud then it grew until he finally make it out what it was. It was a group of Mongolian riders numbering probably just six... maybe seven. Attacking us with those numbers? They must be mad! He removed his rifle sling resting on his shoulder and opened the chamber to load the Mosin-Nagant then a officer shouted “Do not shoot! I repeat, do not shoot!”. He looked back at the riders again. They were carrying a flag, it was white. “Oh goodness, I certainly don't want to fight right now.” he thought of himself. He closed the chamber with the bolt and slung it back to his shoulders as the riders went closer and closer to them.

23rd of July 1937. Moscow

Litvinov knocked on the door. “Come in!” he quickly walked into Bukharin's office. The orchestral music was playing loudly in the room and upon seeing the foreign minister, the chairman stopped it.

“A message forwarded by the army.” the chairman took the paper from Litvinov.

He read the whole piece and then looked at him “An offer to make peace?”

“Of course, we're not accept this shit. We finally cracked them, comrade!” the foreign minister brilliantly said with a happy face

the chairman finally showed a smile on his face, nodding repeatedly with approval “Well done. Well done. About time we finally defeat them. We cannot waste time when the restoration of Russia is still not complete. We cannot stop working until Russia is no longer weak.”

mongolianpeace.png

And so the last week of the month passed by. The month of July ended with the Asino pocket has finally been filled. Two Mongolian divisions captured just like in Kargasok. It maybe small to Russian eyes but to the small Mongolian army, 4 divisions destroyed is a big hit for them. The Ivan II North is now moving forward again. Crossing the river and into the long trek to Yakutsk. Ivan II South is now going closer to its objective, Kyzyl.

If even the Mad Baron has been forced to admit defeat then victory is only a matter of time, now that the Mongolians have lost a large proportion of their army to encirclements they should be easily crushed.

It's a shame you're not in any position to really aid your fellow Syndicalists though, they look like they could do with the help. The Ottomans seem to have gone mad too- what exactly do they hope to gain by going to war with their past ally Germany in defence of Greece, a country which his expansionist designs on their own territory?

@Zhuge Liang - Yeah, all I can do is send supplies and my production of supplies isn't that great with the Soviet-Mongol war still going.

That's the Korean rebels holed up in Jeju. How brave of them. Still standing. (or maybe, the AI is just bad at amphibious landings. :p) I've never seen them winning against Japan.

End of chapter update tomorrow. "Into the Centre of Asia"

In my games Japan fails to take Jeju 4/5 of the times. It's not even an amphibious attack, they just need to mass troops in the northern province, which has land access to Jeju.

By the way, Germany and Ottoman Empire in war isn't something that you see very often. KR indeed surprises you every time.

Into the Centre of Asia

The Union of Britain and the Commune of France, being only the highly-industrialised country in the Internationale, have decided that in order for the world revolution to be a reality, they need their Socialist allies to be industrially developed as well. And so, the program called “Phalanstere Internationale” has been established named after a building design for a utopian society. This program's purpose is to provide industrial and technological support to the other Socialist nations.

phalanstere.png

The list of nations who applied, in chronological order:

Spain (CNT-FAI) – Both nations fulfilled the request
Brazil – Only Britain fulfilled
Italy (Socialist Republic of Italy) – Only Britain fulfilled
Bengal - Only Britain fulfilled
Georgia – Both nations fulfilled
Mexico - Both nations fulfilled
Centroamerica - Both nations fulfilled
Ukraine – None fulfilled the request

France was heavily criticised for her weak participation on the Phalanstere both from her citizens to other nations. Bukharin refused to apply on the program claiming that the Motherland can and will surpass any Socialist country's industry, or even any country's industry, by herself.

------------

The Red Army advance have trapped another division at Rubcovsk and on August 1, the pocket was attacked quickly destroying that division.

frontline23b.png

Forces from Ivan II North have captured Krasnoyarsk at August 12 and Irkutsk at September 19. They were later on transferred to Ivan II South as they set their eyes on to Urga, the capital of Mongolia. The forces moving to Yakutsk were having a hard time at Vanavara as the Mongolians desperately trying to retake the place and repelled the Soviet advance twice. The Soviet forces though, didn't gave up and successfully captured the town at the beginning of September.

In the 17th of September 1937, Ivan II South have finally reached Kyzyl. Ending Ivan II South's objective.

kyzyl.png

The “Centre of Asia” monument was later created by the Soviets to mark the geographic centre of the continent.

Another operation was formulated. An offensive that will ultimately delivery the final blow against Mongolia. Tukhachevsky have authorised Operation Raider. 9 division from Irkutsk would march towards Ulan-Ude and into Urga, capturing the Mongolian capital. 9 division from Kyzyl would advance to Khobdo. More divisions from behind will catch up to back up the two advances.

Operation Raider

-----------

After Operation Raider has begun, the Red Army have pulled out the Red Guards and soon to be disbanded. The Red Guards were the armed civilians who have served Mother Russia since the downfall of the Bolsheviks on the aftermath of the 1st Russian Civil War. They were the brave soldiers of the underground Soviet during the Kerensky administration and Wrangel's military junta. Fortunately, they have the choice to join the regular army if they want to. Otherwise, they can go back home after nearly 2 years of constant warfare.

redguard3-1.jpg

The Soviet-Mongol war made it clear that the Red Guards are soft targets against the enemy.

-----------

Reports have been gathered that the Kaiserliche Marine have begun production of the world's first super heavy battleship, it was named as SMS Tirpitz. It may not concern us now but it will once we build our people's navy.

In the 20th of September, Romania's ambitions are now over as the Iron Guards have surrendered and she was annexed by Austria-Hungary under Hungary's control.

belgradepact3.png

Bad news arrived in the 27th of August 1937 for our comrades who are struggling against the Reactionaries. The Carlists and the Firsters have captured the nation's capitals. CNT-FAI's southern parts are now gone, the middle front collapse as well and the lands that were left were the north-east corner of Spain. CSA has been cut into two parts since several months ago. Majority of its forces are concentrated in Chicago and the surrounding areas.

In September 29, more technological advancement can be made by the Soviets as they have now installed better machines on their research departments. 5 days later, the ministry of armaments have made another model for the cavalry.

October 5 have finally arrived, it was the time of the year again where millions of Russians would travel to Red Square and visit Lenin's mausoleum. Chairman Bukharin was among the visitors honouring the greatest revolutionary in history.

------------

It was the 24th of September that mark the opening of Operation Raider. 9 Soviet divisions have clashed with a lone Mongolian division trying to defend the city of Ulan-Ude. Four clashes were made all ended in Soviet victory. The advance on Khobdo was undeterred until October were three battles were made against a Mongolian cavalry division. By November 11, both sites were captured. The Red Army now marches to Urga.

frontline26.png

In the 19th of November 1937, the Soviet 1st Cavalry have entered the city of Yakutsk and touching the Japanese border for the first time. Operation Ivan II is finally over.

frontline27.png

After 2 battles against the desperate Mongolian army, those 2 times they were push them back by the unstoppable Red Army. It was the 3rd of December 1937 when the Red Army entered Urga and the Mongolians made a final counter-attack to regain the city but were thwarted easily. By December 4, all hostilities were ceased as the Mongolian army have formally surrendered.

frontline28.png

Moscow.

The Red Square was crowded as they watch to see the man up in the platform. The Khagan of Mongolian has his ankles and wrists chained receiving the sentence from the commissar. “Roman Fyodorovich von Ungern-Sternberg, you are sentence to hanging until death at 2pm sharp for crimes against the Motherland and to the Proletariat.” After 25 seconds, the long hand hits 12. It was 2pm. The level was pulled. The platform opened up and the body went straight towards the ground but pulled right back up by the strong rope. The doomed man made some choking sounds desperately gasping for air but the rope didn't allow him to as it clings on to his neck tightly. His legs swings as far as the ankle chains allows him to. His eyes seems like it wants to burst out of its sockets and the tongue slid out of the mouth like a dog. The choking sound stopped. His now dead body swing slowly like a pendulum clock.

The Khagan of Mongolia is dead. The war that raged for a year and two months was finally over with the full incorporation of Siberia and Mongolia.
