“Soon, our Workers and Peasants' Navy will have a mighty fleet that will sail on the oceans fighting the Reactionary navies whatever waters they go. The Baltic will be our port and the straits will be our gateway to the oceans.”
- Nikolai Kuznetzov. Grand Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Russia.

------------------------------------------------

The Gateway to the Oceans

Throughout Germany, the grave news of the fallen city and the lack of news regarding their beloved kaiser have dealt a major blow to the morale of the people. The imperial army, however, is still holding on, hoping that they can still regain their capital city and rescue the kaiser if he was captured by the disgusting Reds. The capture of Berlin also provided some leverage against the French if they were to negotiate the future of the defeated country.

After a few days of rest and celebration, the armour column, dubbed as “the golden mace of the Red Army” named after the previous successful operation, crossed the Elbe River, thrust towards Wolfsburg and swing north to Lubeck, encircling the army in Rostock in the process.

Soviet technology and intellect triumph once more. New message decryption devices created by the People's Commissariat for Armament were now in used in the Soviet military, the NKGB and the GRU. The PeoCo for Technology and the PeoCo for Trade and Industry have made new advancement on improving the oil industry and the factories as well. Lastly, Alexander Novikov from the airforce in collaboration with Colonel Margelov, the founder of the new Red Guards, have made a material on how to use bombers on attacking supplies lines more efficiently and also came up with the standard training and procedure on making airborne assaults for the Red Guards. So far, the Red Guards have only manages seaborne small party raids on Coalition coastlines. The expansion of the Red Guards from a battalion size force to a corp size force is still on-going.

---------------------

The first nine days of September for the Germans in the North were quite intense as the Soviet armour failed to expel the forces in Lubeck. Two divisions in Rostock rushed to the south in Magdeburg in order to isolate the Soviet tanks but they failed to isolate them with the new supply lines going through Leipzig. The German army in Rostock starts an orderly retreat to Lubeck to avoid envelopment, unfortunately for them, the Red Army in Stralsund exploited the situation and start harassing the retreating army. The two divisions in Magdeburg didn't make the escape and surrendered.

The temporary military government is now situated in Munich and just received a message from Vienna that the government and the Imperial Family are still alive and in good health. It salvage a bit of the morale lost. The military government will now receive orders from Vienna on their next actions.

frontline24.png

The frontlines of the 9th of September 1940. Only a small strip of land in the centre remains that keeps the weaker army in the North still in contact with the stronger army in the South.

betapic.png

After the hefty celebration, the war against the Coalition goes on.

The Soviets also received news that the Swedish army have sent a huge majority of its armed forces to Germany now that its borders are secure. Austrian troops were also spotted fighting in German lands. The Hungarians remain uncooperative.

Operation Beta, the capture of the Danish straits, continues on with another urban battle for Lubeck. Strangely, some divisions within the defenders seem not to be dugged-in and were actually leaving the city. In the 14th of September 1940, the defenders were pushed out and Lubeck, the last German port in the Baltic was captured.

The Soviet high command have predicted that the Coalition were pouring their troops to the Central German strip to keep it open.

battle18.png

In September 18, the Danish government have fled Copenhagen to Sweden. The Danish army were in Germany and are now under German leadership. Even without an official surrender, Operation Beta was a success and the Danish Proletariat were free from their masters' chains. Three Soviet divisions will stay in Copenhagen to defend the city and the straits from the Swedes.

frontline25.png

A week later a German attack on Kiel was repelled and Soviet tanks nearly captured Hamburg but a swift counter-attack from the enemy made the Soviets fall back and the city remains contested. The Soviets were pushed out off Dresden but the lost of the city was forgotten for a moment when finally, for the first time, the French and Russian troops met in the city of Hof, located between Soviet Leipzig and French Schweinfurt. The meeting of the two unstoppable forces isolated the Coalition army in the North.

According to intel from both French and Russian sides, the best guess they took is that there are an astounding 45 German, Danish, Swedish and Austrian divisions! The commander of the Coalition army in the North refused to surrender its forces, still holding on religiously that their brothers from the South will come and rescue them.

frontline26.png

coarmynorth.png

The trapped Coalition army holds their position despite low in supplies and equipment.

conveysink.png

Socialists submarines and war planes have destroyed all convey ships in Bremen and the Swedish (and the confiscated Norwegian) merchant navy were taking heavy damages.

The meeting in Hof created new enthusiasm within the Socialist Front. Celebrations were held in the city where the French-Russian borders meet. The Russians were so eager with the French on destroying the Coalition army in the North but just below the solidarity and unity of the Socialist Front, cracks began to show again, both new and old. The Syndicalists were not pleased with the Soviet capture of Berlin, at least, they don't openly show that they weren't. The doctrinal differences is not forgotten and the Syndicalists and the Bolsheviks both consider the other as Pseudo-Socialist states. The speculation that Germany will be occupy by two powers were now certain and its post-war future is in limbo.

how's the Siberian front going? I can't expect good news.

Awesome AAR!:) I have had the pleasure or reading it since I discovered it with your award. Now onto the desperate waiting like everyone else.:p

@BootOnFace - Siberia is slow and boring compare to the fast and intence action in Europe. So I can only give tidbits on that front.

@Sumeragi - Not yet.

@Nikolai - Thank you!

Bremen and Hannover

Excellent news from other fronts. Persian and Delhi troops are in full retreat with the last strategic city captured. Bandar Abbas is the last major airport and seaport in Persia. The corridor to India is getting more narrow everyday and later on, most of the Shah's army didn't made the cut and surrendered. The cowardly Shah and its government have already escaped to Delhi. Persia is defeated.

In Siberia, the first blow against the Coalition is in Arvayheer. 3 Qing divisions were trapped and later surrendered. The victory was an optimistic relief on the enormous pressure that the outnumbered Soviet divisions are facing.

8th of October 1940. Vienna, Austria-Hungary.

vienna.png

“We received news that our armies in the North were destroyed and the Socialist Front are now turning South.”

“What happened? How did they-” an Austrian general asked.

“This is grave news! How many divisions do we have in Bohemia?” another one asked.

“Impossible! This is just Red propaganda!” the Kaiser, like all others, still deluding himself. “We have more than 50 divisions up there. There is no way they would be defeated by a smaller army!”

The Emperor-King sat silently beside the Kaiser, still digesting the shocking information.

“The Swedish government have informed us that they have halted on sending convey to Bremen when they learn that it was on Red hands.”

There was silence.

“This is your fault.”

The Emperor-King turned to his partner only to find out that it was him that's being accused.

“MY fault?!”

“You have a million men on your command but did you send them against the Soviets?! NO! You were too busy protecting your own land while the damn Bolsheviks are just passing by!”

A general tries to split the two monarchs “Your majesties, this is not the good time to-”

“Stay out of this, general!”

“I would like to remind the Kaiser that I HAVE Austrians in that Northern pocket and there are Austrians fighting in Southern Germany! It was the Hungarians! They didn't-”

“You. Are. The King of Hungary. Why can't you command your own forces? Why can't you...” the Kaiser paused midway, like he experienced realisation “...you are undermining us.”

The Emperor-King looks puzzled. “Undermining you? What are you talking about, Wilhelm?”

“After the Weltkrieg, I have a worldwide empire, Germany is at the top of the world and Central Europe is my grasp while yours is in bloody shambles! You want to destroy Mitteleuropa and re-establish your ancestral empire, isn't that right, Hapsburg!?”

Blows landed on each others faces. The generals from both sides separated the two emperors. The generals have agreed that the meeting is to be postponed and the questions remained unanswered. Is it the Emperor-King's fault? How many divisions do they have in Bohemia to stop the Bolsheviks?

The first question can be answered though. What happened to the Coalition army in the North?

----------------------------

An attack on Gottingen was initiated, the first one was replused but the following one succeeded. The city was captured in a day. The Coalition army in the North is now separated into two. The Russians then set their sights on the smaller pocket in Erfurt. The supply depots around and in the German city was pummelled by Soviet air that many of their vehicles were abandoned. The tanks and tank destroyers were dug in to act as defensive turrets due to lack of oil. The motorised infantry and the motorised cavalry were on foot ever since the retreat from Gottingen. Supplies and ammo are running low. The coalition put up a desperate fight but it only last for a few hours. At 8 o'clock in the morning, the 19 coalition divisions on Erfurt surrendered.

battle20.png

After the news of the collapse of the forces in Erfurt, in which the Socialists have tirelessly proclaimed to the remnants. The Coalition's morale is dangerously low despite the officers deluding their troops that “it's just Red propaganda”. The reality is on the Socialist Front's side. More than half of the Coalition army in the North were annihilated in a single morning in Erfurt. The defenders of Bremen were defeated after two attacks. The city was captured later that day.

battle21.png

The situation is a lot worse than Erfurt, the majority of the soldiers in Hannover have no ammunition on their rifles. After the news of the defeat in Bremen, desertion was rampant during the following night and even the officers themselves joined the deserters. The siege of Hannover was relatively easy.

battle22.png

A total of 30 coalition divisions surrendered in Hannover and Bremen putting the total to more than 50 divisions being destroyed. This is the biggest Coalition defeat so far in the Second Great War. The destruction of the Coalition army in the North created panic and worry to the remaining fighters. The high command of Mitteleuropa countries still remains defiant to the Red plague.

It was the 5th of October when the victory happened which coincide with the death anniversary of Lenin. Back in Moscow, millions flock to the Red Square. The victory in Bremen & Hannover was dedicated to the Father of the Revolution.

I have vowed to never cheer for communists or syndicalists, but Russia is doing very well here. I want to see a leftist Cold War between France and Russia like a magnified Sino-Soviet Split OTL.

@TemplarComander - oh yes. There will be a split in the 3rd Internationale. It's still unified due to the war but the split just waiting to happen.

@Sumeragi - There will be "small talk" between our comrades too, in the future. The question is when. ;)

Writing update now. It'll be posted by tomorrow!

I lied. I thought I can finish the update by Monday, I couldn't.

“This is the first ever mass scale assault the Red Guards will do, so don't screw it! It's not spectacular but it is important. The Red Army below are counting on us on choking the Reactionaries out faster than everybody in this world expects.”

The Austrian Wedge.

The Soviet Army are now relocating their forces down south towards Bohemia and Austria. The resistance is weak, they predicted, but the operation will be a difficult process as they tries to create a wedge between the two large forces in southern Germany and Hungary.

The Austrian skies were one of the most contested airspaces in the war.

airbattle03.png

Kutna Hora and Ostrava were the first major battles in the Bohemian campaign, codenamed Operation Neptune, the capture of Vienna and Prague. The Red Army on both battles were victorious.

battle23.png

The month of November came in. The defenders of Prague, a division of infantry and the city's garrisons were annihilated by the Red Army and Airforce. Coalition aircrafts fled the city, all the damaged planes or without fuel were abandoned and destroyed.

The Reactionary Coalition continues to crawl deeper into Siberia. Only 12 Soviet divisions were assign there to stop the entire onslaught. The terrain, lack of proper infrastructure, and the chilling temperature have helped on delaying the Chinese and Japanese troops.

siberianfront2.png

Siberian Front

One of the significant changes in the political landscape in Europe is the heavy loses of the North Italians against the Reds. The French, deeply alarmed by the near total defeat of the CNT-FAI, have diverted some of its forces into Spain. The success in the Western Front made it possible for them to give the Socialist Spaniards a helping hand.
Minor issues were encounter in Crimea and the Baltics as Coalition troops landed and raided the Soviet coastlines. All raiding forces are now defeated. The Arab Soviets were bogged down and pushed back by the Reactionary France. The Bosphorus front only consists of skirmishes and artillery exchanges, and the front line remains stagnant throughout the entire war. The Finnish-Soviet front was the same as well, with only skirmishes and artillery exchanges after the Soviet high command halt all major offensives in the area.

mapeurope.png

Europe

The Centroafricans were losing ground against the Reactionary French and La Plata landed a raiding forces behind the lines. The Soviet troops from Sudan have made some slow progress against the French. The Arabs have also gained Abadan, after the annexation of Persia. The oil output of the (renamed) Soviet Socialist Federation of Arabia have double over-night as the province of Abadan was considered as part of the Motherland and it is so rich in oil that it nearly beat the entire country's oil output.

New materials from the Soviet airforce was put into official use to Red pilots. Lastly, something to make the Grand Admiral happy, the PeoCom for Armaments are restarting the naval modernisation. They have created the first model of, what the Grand Admiral proposed, a heavy aircraft carrying cruiser. The naval modernisation continues.

On the 12th of November 1940, Soviet tanks rolled into Vienna. Another head of an evil, reactionary, capitalistic snake was beheaded. Unfortunately, this type of snake has two heads. The Kaiser and the Emperor-King and their respective governments have escaped, as expected. The Austrian Emperor fled to the Hungarian capital of Budapest. The cowardly German emperor was racing towards south-southwest, instead of westwards towards his armies in southern Germany. Where is he going?

frontline33.png

The wedge was form and the Red Army wants to move further and exploit the brilliant advantage they just achieved. Operation Galaxy was formulated.

opgalaxy.png

Operation Galaxy

But Operation Galaxy was a total failure from the start. The Coalition army in the area was heavily defended. A quick alternative was suggested by the Armour division commanders. To move around the Coalition army in the South just like what Deep Battle suggested and surround the coalition.

Hence, the Innsbruck Offensive quickly replaced Galaxy. Advance first onto Salzburg, Innsbruck, and then Lech. Alternatives will be considered if the provinces are heavily defended too. However, brainstorming for another route was no longer needed as the route proposed was lightly defended. Red tanks have reached Innsbruck.

innsbruck01.png

The next part of the offensive will be the most interesting. From an airport in France, Soviet planes have travelled through German airspace. This is the first large scale airborne assault by the Red Guards. The Red Guards have landed on the province of Lech and proceeded on capturing all strategic spots to close all the remaining links to the Coalition army in the South. The noose was complete. The Red Army is confident again that these forces will suffer the same fate with the Coalition army in the North

A Merry Secular Winter Festival

Winter have set in the remnants of the Imperial German army that stands on the last bastion of their Fatherland along with other Coalition soldiers. The first attack was on Munich on November 27. The Red Army attacked from 3 directions and the Red Guards captured the airfield and the South West part of the city. Due to inadequate supplies, the defenders could only rely to the difficulties of urban warfare as their best advantage but it's still not enough, the battle for the snow covered city lasted for 4 days.

battle26.png

In December 13, after constant barrage of artillery and bomber planes, the attack was launched on the city of Nuremberg. The 8 division strong garrison were severely handicapped by the lack of supplies and the clothing for the winter. The garrison was easily defeated.

battle27.png

9 days later, Nuremberg was captured and the follow-up attack on Regensburg started, in a few hours, the defenders surrendered. The Soviet tanks who just arrived in Nuremberg were facing a desperate counter-attack. 10 divisions threw themselves to the Russian tanks but due to the weather and the lack of supplies, the counter-attack was a slim defeat. From there, the Red Army took a rest and they let the soldiers celebrate the secular winter festival. The opposing armies also took a rest to celebrate.

battle28.png

battle29.png

On the last days of 1940, the combined assault of Stuttgart commenced and easily pushed out the Coalition. 6th of January 1941, Stuttgart was captured and all that remains of the Coalition Army in the South was two pockets in Freiburg and Frankfurt-am-Main. Both pockets were easily destroyed.

frontline36.png

battle30.png

The Coalition Army in the South was completely annihilated. More than 40 divisions were dead or surrendered surpassing the defeat in Bremen & Hannover.

-----------------------

MacArthur's war to reclaim the country continues. Just before the year ended, San Diego was captured, threatening the city of Los Angeles up north. Many Federal generals predict that this breakthrough marks the days of the PSA.

usaacw1-1.png

The PeoCom for Armaments have completed a fully operational rocket engine. They are now considering on making a better form of engine.

soviettech1940dec.png

----------------------

With the main German army destroyed, its remaining soldiers scattered through its overseas empire, and the Kaiser on the run, the Red Army now shift its focus to the minor members of the Coalition. With the destruction of the German and Austrian army in the west, Bulgaria now diverts a lot of her soldiers to the Balkans, weakening the build-up in Constantinople and relieving some pressure on the Bosphorus front.

The Western HQ is now transformed into the Balkan HQ. The first operation in this new theatre is now done and it was called “Operation Chrome”. The Soviets would seize the cities of Venice and Trento, and establish a defensive line against the North Italians, the Soviets would then drive South-East deep into the Balkans; knocking out Bosnia and Croatia out of the war and then swing North to Budapest to forced the Hungarians out of their fortified positions in the border.

opchrome.png

Operation Chrome

The year ended with the downfall of the German Fatherland. The new year now starts with a fresh campaign to liberate the entire Balkans under the Bolshevik banner before the Syndicalists does the same.

--------------------------

The Workers and Peasants' Socialist Liberation Front Grand Meeting, Schweinfurt, Germany.

“What do you mean we withdraw from these areas!?”

The chairman of Soviet Russia looks offended on what he has heard.

“Your troops are bordering our soil!”

“But that is German soil!” the Russian chairman pointed on the map.

“Excusez-moi! Alsace-Lorraine is FRENCH SOIL! Always have been!”

“...whatever.” he resigned “What do you want exactly then?”

“What I have said earlier, withdraw from the provinces of Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt-am-Main, and transfer them to French authority.”

“I refused to do so as that would offend the blood spilled by our brave troops as they liberate those lands.”

“We have spilt blood as well, comrade. This offer would be a nice compensation for our hard work and sacrifice as you have devoured most of Germany like a true Bolshevik pig!”

Then the conversation drowned in shouting and fierce argument but in the end, the Bolsheviks were reluctantly yield to the offer. The three requested provinces will be hand over to French control and the French-occupied province of Schweinfurt will be hand over to them.

partition.png

The other agendas of the meeting went better compare to the earlier “argument”, the Bolsheviks and the Syndicalists recognises South Italy as the legitimate successor of Italy. Which means, they will have to hand over all Italian provinces that they might capture. Same result happened on the India issue, the Bharitya Commune is recognised as the legitimate government of India, consists of all lands of the former British Raj minus Burma. The North Africa issue was inconclusive but all agreed that the lands of the Reactionary French and other colonies will become self-ruled. On the issue of the Scandinavia, no agreement was reached. The Syndicalists, especially Britain who has a close relationship with Norway, wanted the status quo with Socialists governments replacing them but the Bolsheviks, expecially Russia, wanted a unified Socialist Scandinavia and Finland under the RSFSR. The Balkan issue was even more divided on what the plans were and Russia is not interested as she is confident that she will call the shots on what's going to happen to post-war Balkans with Soviet troops all over the Balkans.

interncongress2.png

The Grand Meeting of Schweinfurt

Despite some successes on the meeting, many believe that the meeting was a failure as it only increased the tension and divide between the two school of thought but some believed that the divide will increase anyway with or without the grand meeting as the war on Europe progresses towards the end.

Chapter X: Barraging the Balkans

“The Hungarians will be a tough nut to crack. Once we have Hungary proper, the rest of the country and the Balkans will be liberated by the Socialists under the Bolshevik's banner.”
- Field Marshall Shaposhnikov

------------------------------------------------

Operation Chrome

The Red Army who just annihilated the Coalition army in the South just arrived in Innsbruck and only rested for a few days until the attack onto Italy commenced in Trento, the 24th of January 1941. A tank division and a Red Guards corps assaulted the rugged mountainous province supported by the main army in the east. After the expulsion of the forces in Trento, the main army shift south to Venice. Venice, the place where the GRU believed the Kaiser have fled.

battle31.png

battle32.png

--------------------

17th of November 1940. Two months before Chrome. Venice.

“Albania?”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Continue.”

“We shall go to Albania and take the Dutch ship that will come from Amsterdam to Batavia in the Dutch East Indies. The ship will stop in Massaua, Ethiopia; Colombo, Sri Lanka, which is under our control; and all the way to Batavia. From there, we shall establish contacts with the Dutch government and take another ship to Singapore. We assure you that we will be safe throughout the journey, Majesty.”

The aging Kaiser sighed at what he heard “Even though the Suez is owned by the Bolsheviks?”

“Yes, Your Majesty. They can't really check every ship passing through.”

“Why Singapore then?”

“Majesty, it is the closest in Batavia and it is a thriving city thanks to your leadership when you took it from the British.”

The aides were then ordered to leave. The now Kaiser of a collection of small colonies scattered all over the globe slammed his fist on the well carved, well decorated table. The Imperial government were running out of options since the Entente's secret betrayal. The original plan was to take an Albanian ship to Algiers but they later found out, from unknown source, that their French and British Canadian “allies” were approached by Kremlin that the Bolsheviks would make peace with them and leave them alone against their revanchism against the Syndicalists. In exchange for such peace is the Imperial family and the government that's on the run from them. The plan was quickly altered for a retreat into the Far East.

--------------------

The PeoCom for Defence have made new reforms on their logistics system, making it more efficient. The Red Air Force have made doctrinal materials to be used by future attack planes. Attack planes differs from fighters and bombers as they directly support the ground forces by bombing them. The naval modernisation program starts to bear fruit, new materials and blueprints are being produced but the Grand Admiral reported that the Red Fleet is still not yet in line with the navies of other powers hence more modernisation is required.

soviettech1941jan.png

--------------------

On the Siberian front, the Coalition tries to envelope the Red Army in Mongolia. All counter-attacks were half successful as Soviet troops get pushed back after every attack to keep the Urga pocket as big as possible. In the 20th of February 1941, the commander of the outnumbered Soviet forces calls for a general retreat out of Mongolia before they get surrounded.

frontline38.png

In the United States, MacArthur's troops have reached the city of Los Angeles in February 26 and Sacramento in March 5. The Pacific States of America is now in its dire fight for their existence. The Coalition greeted it with great enthusiasm. The faster the Americans unify their country, the faster they will enter the war against the Socialists.

usaacw3.png

---------------------

A month later after Chrome, the first objective has been achieved. The Austrian part of the empire was overrun. The Red Army will now rush against the Croatians and Bosnians, both puppets of the Austrians.

frontline37.png

In the Trento-Venice line, the Red Army with the help of the Red Guards repeatedly defended the line against the Northern Italians. The battle outside of Venice is just one of the several battles fought in the line. The commander of the line have requested for reinforcements several times to the Balkans HQ in Munich for they are always outnumbered against the Reactionary Italians.

battle34.png

After the occupation of Austria, the Balkans HQ had a discussion about the tempting opportunity of exploiting the soft southern belly of Hungary. The meeting resulted with a discipline philosophy of halting any invasion of Hungary in favour of sealing the front in the Balkans, in other words, the invasion of Croatia and Bosnia. The delay on Hungary was a difficult decision as many generals complained this would give the Hungarians sufficient amount of time to reinforce the exposed and lightly defended southern belly.

One of these commanders was Rokossovsky with his tanks in Belgrade. He then made a request to People's Commissariat Tukhachevsky himself, who is the head of the Soviet military, to take his tank division to make a vertical lightning strike across Greater Hungary with the support of the Red Army in the North when he's trying to breakthrough the northern line. With the People's Commissariat a mobile armour proponent and not wanting to waste this opportunity, he gave the general the green light to his bold request but told him that there will be no reinforcements for him. The daring general went with his drive and reached Debrecen in the 22nd of February but, alas, the breakthrough battle in Kosice was a failure. It was known as Rokossovsky's Dash. The dash did not cut Hungary into two but it did disrupt the Hungarians and diverted their front line troops in the North and West to bolster their defences.

frontline39.png

Soviet tank rolled into Bosnia and Rokossovsky is now in a dire situation.
