@Patukov - nope :)

@Zhuge Liang - I might find the borders tolerable if only they didn't join the 2nd Russian civil war. Regardless, good thing two more separatist states are gone :D

@Dues Eversor - to be honest, I never made any research about that message blocking thing, I just pulled that out of my arse :p

@talt - glad you like it :D

@General_Hoth - I can't do that, sorry. There have been talks between the two about an alliance, Reed declines it. Plus, they are ideological enemies.

As for the three countries, Morlak got the traitor bit.

Update is done. Gonna edit pics

The Double Nineteen Plot

Moscow. 7th of November 1938

“Lieutenant General Konev have captured Tsaritsyn, which he renamed as 'Bukharingrad'.”

The chairman chuckled.

“With that, the Cossacks are now sliced into half. The forces on the North won't be a threat anymore.” People's Commissar Tukhachevsky giving out the news from the front while waving and point this hand on the map. “And the enemy elements on the South are being pushed out as we advance to our objectives. Here in Grozny, Bashanta and Novorossisk.”

“Well done!” he said with a smile. “Bukharingrad. I like the sound of that! Tsaritsyn sounds too imperial.”

“I'll give the rest to comrade Proskurov and Uritskiy.”

The People's Commissar stepped back and nodded to the GRU Director “Comrade chairman, more reports from my officers and their agents to comfirm that several prominent Ukrainian Socialists are definitely in Tblisi.” handing over a few papers to the chairman

“This is unacceptable, comrade. Georgia is not suppose to intervene in this matter especially that France and Britain strictly orders the entire Internationale not to.”

“And...” People's Commissar Uritskiy placed the briefcase on the table and opened it “...we have found something else.”

-----------------

Moscow. 21st of September 1938.

It was night time in Moscow. The Soviet Commissar opened the door in his home. He exhaled from exhaustion and pull his coat away. He was alone as his wife went off to her night shift in the local hospital. He went to his study, turned his phonograph on and filled his glass with vodka. It was a normal night after work. The commissar sat down, all he wanted was to relax and waste this night away. Then suddenly, the front and the back doors were kicked open, ruining the environment. He stood up to confront the intruders but what he saw were soldiers. He looked at their uniform as they shouted at him. Internal Troops of the NKGB. He raised his hands as they order him to. He was busted. The CO went in the room and declared his arrest. He was arrested for corruption as he was caught taking funds that was suppose to be used to buy resources for a weapons factory. After he was taken away, the troops looted the whole place for information. They found more evidences for his crime and evidences for even more crimes! As they dug further in the house, one of them found a old box, not too big neither too small, sitting in the storeroom. The box wasn't special at all but since curiosity killed the cat, he opened the box by smashing the lock that protects it and found a batch of folders. The folders too were uninteresting like the box and were heavily stained by the time. As he doesn't have the time to slack, the soldier picked the top folder, opened it and skimmed through the paper at the front. He blinked twice and re-read from the top. He found more evidence of corruption. But the NKGB troop paused. “Babel” he said.

documents4.png

Another set of papers of him committing embezzlement but the NKGB soon find out that it was just the tip of the iceberg.

-------------------

“And we have found something else.” said the NKGB's People's Commissar.

A train of vehicles have stopped outside the People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs.

Uritskiy pulled out folders out of the briefcase. “We have found some disturbing materials.”

Another train of vehicles stopped outside of a residential home.

The chairman was listening attentively while reading the materials being handed to him “...this thing is very old. It was two decades ago. Yes, that war.”

Another convoy drove towards a military base.

“During the 2nd Proletarian Revolution, as we all know, the Father of the Socialist Revolution, comrade Lenin, was in charge...”

“Papers?” the sentry asked. Then he saw the papers were stamped by Tukhachevsky and Uritskiy themselves, he then let the convoy in.

“...we were winning at first then the Germans intervene...”

The squads stormed the residential house and arrested their target.

“...before the German's entry into the war, there is this conspiracy.”

“Order all troops in this base to be disarmed. Go and arrest our targets ASAP.”

“Conspiracy?” Bukharin was very curious

The NKGB troops stormed the Foreign Affairs building “People's Commissar Litvinov, you are under arrest for conspiracy and crimes against Socialism and the Motherland!”

politicblunder.png

“My troops have found old documents in the Armament Commissar's house during the night of September 21st. These documents are records of funds that were embezzled to be used in this plot called 'Operation Babel'. For days and weeks we were scouring Russia for more clues on 'Babel'. More pieces of the puzzle came up and more people were involved in 'Babel' including the likes of comrade Kalinin. At first, we thought it was just a scheme of a more organised crime of stealing money from projects they are assigned too...”

Litvinov was taken to the NKGB vehicle with his hands cuffed.

“...but it was actually more than that! The embezzling was just a part of it. The money will be used as fuel for this bigger plot...”

Hundred of military officers and commissars were arrested by the People's Commissariat for State Security throughout Russia. All have the same charges.

“...we found more materials where loyalties were bought. Networks being established.” the Commissar relentlessly continues “We checked our achieves just to be sure, we discover more materials with 'Babel' on it. We soon find out that 'Babel' is a plot originating from 1919. At first we thought it was a failed plot by the Whites to shake the Soviet leadership but after all these pieces of the puzzle join together. It was actually a plot where a secret circle headed by Iosif “Stalin” Dzhugashvili would they try to silently overthrow the Lenin leadership and put himself at the helm.”

“When you say 'silently' you mean, they will make Lenin die 'accidentally'?” Uritskiy nodded at the chairman. “This is outrageous!”

“Exactly, comrade. But there is more. Of course, no soldier of ours would rise up against our comrade Lenin so they hired the 'People's Guard' to act as the muscles.”

Bukharin looked up “Georgians!?”

“Yes, comrade Bukharin, Georgians. With the help of the GRU...” Uritskiy looked at the Director “...we have gathered information that Chairman Beria was part of the plot. He personally ordered the 'People's Guard' to send troops to Russia. We still don't know what in it for him or why he did that but it doesn't matter. After sheltering the Ukrainian separatists and then this! He needs to be stopped!”

“The Double Nineteen Plot” coined by Pravda after the year 1919 where the first material to surface was dated on. Many officials who were involved were already dead after the defeat in that civil war like Stalin and Kalinin. Others were still alive. Hundreds of them. The most prominent and high ranking of all was People's Commissar Maksim Litvinov, head of NKPID (Foreign Affairs). And let's not forget Chairman Beria from the Democratic Republic of Georgia. This breaking news soon exploded to various countries like Britain and France. Many blamed that this was the reason why the Reds lost the Russian civil war.

Many of them were charge of crimes of conspiracy and of against Socialism and the Motherland. Many, like Litvinov, were stripped off their ranks/positions and sentence of either life sentence or death penalty. The dead like Stalin and Kalinin were taken out of their graves in Kremlin and were relocated.

Maxim_Litvinov.png

The demise of People's Commissar Litvinov

Beria, of course, fought back and dismiss the “Double Nineteen Plot” as Soviet propaganda to tarnish his name. It was fruitless as the enraged Red Army were assembled in the Russian-Georgian borders. In December 6, 8 o'clock PM, Soviet troops crossed the border. Operation Maroon have started.

opmaroon.png

Operation Maroon

The heavily politicised 'People's Guard' were no match against the glorious Soviet Army as they occupy Maikop in December 17 and Nalchik in January 2 of the next year. France and Britain protested for acts of aggression to a fellow Socialist country for the 2nd time but the British and French public themselves were on the Russian's side. The big players of the Internationale were powerless to stop justice.

frontline47.png

Frontline. 2nd of January 1939

While the Double Nineteen Plot was in the spotlight in Russia and in the Internationale, another news became big in the North Atlantic as the Royalists from Canada have sent troops to Iceland to quell the riots. It all started with the newly independent nation cannot afford to import fuel due to the rising oil price in this economical downturn. The Canadians then approached Iceland with a deal. Free fuel imports in exchange of fishing rights off the coast of Greenland. This resulted in protests from the fishermen in the 11th of November. The opposition parties supported the fishermen by demanding the end of the deal. The protests soon turned into riots as various groups began to support the oppressed fishermen. The government send a request to Ottawa to send troops to Iceland. Canadian troops then landed on Reykjavik on the 27th of November 1938.

icelandroit.png

The riots in the Iceland's capital turned into bloodbath after an instance where one of the Royalist troops fired on the crowd. On December 3, the Union of Britain steps in with the Republican Navy and issued a blockade the island. Canada responded was limited to covert operations despite the king's demand for war against Britain. In turn, Britain responded on the operations with covert operations too such as training the Icelandic proletariat and ambushing Royalist forces.

The climax arrived in December 28 when the surprisingly armed Icelandic workers have clashed with the Canadians several times around the city until they were ordered to evacuate. The Proletariat then stormed the Althing, Iceland's parliament, and official proclaim the victory of the workers.

icelandroit1.png

Two days after the landing of the Canadian soldiers in Iceland, Brazilian troops marched into the streets of Buenos Aires, the capital of La Plata. The war ended with Brazil, La Plata and Germany signing the Treaty of Concordia. The treaty stated the transfer of the provinces: Montevideo, Concordia, Ciudad del Este and Asuncion to Brazil. This war is another demonstration of the superiority of Socialism over the Capitalism.

brazillaplatawar3.png

The year ended with the founding of the atomic research team for the People's Commissariat for Technology. They are now given funds to establish their laboratories.

soviettech1938dec.png

The year 1939 opened up with the vacant positions of the plotters being filled in. The new Commissar of People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs was given to Vyacheslav Molotov.

sovietcabinet1939jan.png

The start of 1939 was good for the Soviet army as they marched in the streets of Tblisi and captured Beria and his cohorts, also the wanted Ukrainian escapees as well. Georgia surrendered. Beria was hanged for crimes against the Motherland and Socialism. He maybe a Socialist who follow the doctrines of Totalism but his action speak otherwise. His involvement on the plot to overthrow Lenin was unforgivable.

frontline48.png

West of Soviet Russia, the Reactionary country of Lithuania looked at its history and revisited the Union of Lublin that unifies them and Poland. The unification was proposed to Poland. The Polish replied with a telegram in Polish. When the translator decipher the message, he puzzlingly said “We just earn our freedom and only a fool would give it up again. Poland can into space. Poland... can into space?” The fault maybe with the machine, or maybe its a typographical error by the Polish or maybe the translator have dubious Polish-language skills.

lithunity2.png

The brave Proletariat of Iceland then solidify their position by officially declaring Iceland as a Socialist state and with the Treaty of London, create an alliance between Iceland and Britain. Long live the working class!

icelandroit4.png

Mother Russia then turned her eyes on Georgia's oil-rich neighbour, Azerbaijan. The country was certainly interesting for her as the production in the Baku oil fields can surpass the ones in Ploesti and of course, Mother Russia has a duty to fight the corrupt capitalistic corporations that run these oil fields and enslaves the oppressed workers of Azerbaijan. They must be liberated that once! Demands were then given to Baku, dissolve the government and allow the People's Army to march into Azerbaijan to liberate the Proletariat. They decline. War was declared on Azerbaijan on the 23rd of January 1939.

azerwar.png

The war started with two battles. The four division army was beaten back easily.

frontline49.png

In February 11, Baku was assaulted, defeating the same 4 divisions before until they were destroyed.

battle15-frontline50.png

The war was swift as Baku was captured in February 16. The two Caucasian countries were liberated from slavery and oppression.

azerannex.png

The year 1938 has been a good year for the workers and it seems 1939 would be the same. Long live the revolution!

So far, the traitor and the random one folded back to Russia. Only the puppet remains.

I fear for the future of Armenia, they are after all a puppet of the Ottoman Empire (has the frontline shifted at all in that region?

I fear for the future of Armenia, they are after all a puppet of the Ottoman Empire (has the frontline shifted at all in that region?
Nope. Armenia is still a puppet :) The only difference is on the Balkan front which I will put in the next update.

I find it funny how Beria is still a sniveling, backstabbing asshole in this timeline. I wouldn't trust him with a penny. Good thing to get rid of him.

Interesting semi-political thriller you had there at the beginning. I wouldn't have thought of Maxim Litvinov as a conspirator- but I guess you found a purpose to that out of place (imo) event in the most unexpected way. I wouldn't mind seeing an event along these lines in KR for relations between Georgia and the Soviets.

Nice update. Time for Kolchak and the Japanese Empire and settling accounts in the east I guess?

Edit: I also noticed your use of polandball :p

Stalin manages to get his followers purged even after he's been dead for over a decade- I'm sure the old bastard would have found some sort of amusement in that. Also I trust Poland will be punished at some point, after all it's better for them to learn that they cannot into space sooner rather than later.

I'm amazed that the Internationale actually managed to accomplish something. Hopefully next time they'll set their sights a bit higher than Iceland.

I still think that the Internationale cannot loose america!

@SovietAmerika - Yeah, Beria is just a good character to be a villain. Weird thing is, he exists as one of my cabinet ministers. :p Of course, for RP purposes I won't use him.

@MercZ - Glad you liked it. Georgia and Litvinov. Two birds one stone. I never expect it to be that long but it was worth it.

@Zhuge Liang - They never even thought of unifying Italy. :p

@General_Hoth - It sucks but hey, Russia will liberate our American brothers someday.

Update not done yet.

So Close Yet So Far Away

“Welcome to my home, comrades!”

Ismael Bey Gaspirali welcomed the Soviet representatives in. The Russians were thankful that they went in as soon as they introduce themselves. The heat is just intolerable to them.

“How are things in the worker's paradise?” the Arab gleamed with excitement and offered them with refreshments.

The two Soviets took one each and one of them answered.

“Great! Life is great as usual. Everybody is happy. We are happy that the people's army have finally liberated Damascus.”

“I am happy as well” he paused “so, what is the message from Moscow?”

“comrade Chairman have sent us here to tell you, after a long negotiation between our sides, that Russia accepts the agreement.”

“That is a great news for us, I can't wait to tell the council. That means that all of the Arabs...?”

“Yes. All of them.”

Vietnam. February 1939

Damning evidence have shown that the Turks and Armenians have aided the Azerbaijanis during our war against them. Russia made an ultimatum to the Ottoman Sultan. With her Belgrade Pact allies defeated and at war with her former friends, Russia is confident that no one will defend the ancient empire. The ultimatum was ignored, said it was too demanding. They will soon feel the of the workers! The invasion was prepared. It was codenamed Operation Jewel orchestrated by Field Marshall of the Soviet Russia Voroshilov and People's Commissar Tukhachevsky. The main bulk of the army would, predictably, drive West towards Anatolia and establish a Samsun-Gaziantep line just before the Sakarya river. While two advances would reach South and capture the city of Karbala and the strategic city of Damascus to isolate Iraq from the empire. A third advance would plunge to Baghdad. The last one is the attack by the '16ya korpus' to Armenia supported by two corps from the main advance.

opjewel.png

Operation Jewel

20 days after the start of the war, Armenia is liberated by the people's army. The tank division is on its way to Gaziantep. The capture of the city will cut land access to the Ottoman's southern lands. This is where long-range bombers were used in actual combat. The Ilyushin DB-3 were used to soften enemy defences before a battle and to attack supply lines and depots. Sometimes, they were used to directly support infantry but only because these task were done for the experimentation on the effectiveness of close air support.

armeniaannex.png

db3.png

'Jewel' was the first conflict on where DB-3 were used in combat. They became important to the operation as they soften Turkish defences in Anatolia

As the campaign drags on, the defences on the north-eastern part of Anatolia hardens up as the Red Army fails to capture Trebizond and Sivas. But the silver lining was that the southern Anatolia was wide open and the defences were insignificant. This became a golden opportunity for Commissar Tukhchevsky to use the learnt lessons from the Mongolians into the Red Army. The lessons from the Far East were already been applied in the following wars against Turkestan, Ukraine, Ruthenia and the Don-Kuban Union but only today it will be used to its full potential. The change of plan was made and the unstoppable Red divisions on the south will advance west and then swing to the north, capturing Ankara then towards the Black Sea and encircling the well-defended army in the north-east. It was named as Operation Pashevich as a subpart of 'Jewel'.

On the South, with Konev's boldness, his tanks have rushed unopposed through the Ottoman coasts all the way to the Suez Canal that was previously controlled by the Germans while capturing the strategic city of Jerusalem to destroy any naval access from the Turks in Anatolia to the Middle East.

frontline51.png

Frontline. 1st of May 1939

The Trebizond Pocket was closed when the Red Army troops touched the waters of the Black Sea in Karabuk on the 15th of May. Out of supply and constantly bombarded by the Soviet Air Force, the pocket was reduced when the Ottoman troops were pushed out of Trebizond on 20th of May and in Sivas on the 21st. The Trebizond Pocket was destroyed when the city of Samsun was attacked on the 23rd, 10 hopeless Turkish divisions were eliminated in just a few hours of battle. All this happened thanks to the contribution of our brave comrades of the Soviet Air Force. The Soviets are now set to march to the Aegean Sea.

battle16.png

note: I was suppose to take a screenshot but the battle was very quick. The Turks have no org due to air interdiction.

As our brave soldiers are victorious against the Reactionary Ottoman Sultan. Unfortunately, our comrades in the Far East are now fortifying themselves in Luang Prabang as they make a last stand against the German oppressors. Strength and fortitude, comrades!

vietnam1939jun.png

Vietnam. June 1939

Unfortunately, Istanbul was already in Bulgarian hands at the start of 'Jewel' and the Soviets have met the Bulgarians at the outskirts of Gebze. The Bulgarians have solidify the control of Istanbul. The only consolation we can have is to capture Bursa as the control for Izmir isn't enough as a bargain chip for the Bosphorus Strait. Bursa was attacked at June 3, the Turks were disorganized and being attacked from two sides, Russian and Bulgarian. The results was predictable.

Damascus was captured as well. Victory is getting nearer everyday.

battle17.png

A week later, the Soviets fail on their objective. Bursa was captured and the Bulgarians control of the Sea of Marmara was cemented. With encouragement from Berlin, they later announced that they will respect the Treaty of Paris of 1856 of not allowing Russian military vessels to cross the strait. And the last resistance in Anatolia will soon be destroyed.

The advance to Karbala was never realised as the Bolsheviks encountered significant resistance in Mosul. They weren't pushed out until June 24th. Russian tanks (not shown) are now on their progress to fully occupy Yemen, including the Ottoman-occupied German colony.

The war against the Ottoman Empire became the centre piece of comrade Alksnis on his report on the air force's role on directly supporting the land force on the battlefield. Comrade Kuznetzov also in the process on modernising the navy. Not just on hardware but on strategy as well. A new battleship class and another heavy cruiser class was unveiled. Laboratories were established for the Atomic Research team for comrade Kurchatov. The land forces were also given a new standard under the authorisation of Commissar Tukhachevsky. No funds were given yet on upgrading the army.

In North America, it seems that our American comrades are making a comeback. The Reactionary Firsters' days are numbered and soon jackboot MacArthur will be next.

usa1939jul.png

-------------------

Not only until July 25th that the remnants of the Ottoman Army was annihilated and the city of Basrah and Kuwait were in Russian hands.

The Treaty of Constantinople was signed the next day. (The Bulgarians decided to rename the city back to its former name.) giving Constantinople, Bursa and the lands surrounding it as well as Cyprus, Cyclades, Dardanelles and the Dodecanese islands to the Bulgarians. The Germans will receive Rhodes and Libya. The treaty also allows the asylum of the royal family into Berlin, trying not to test their fate on the hands of the Bolsheviks.

A separate treaty with the Soviets will be signed in Ankara. The Soviets will obtain all the Ottoman lands that is not mentioned in the Treaty of Constantinople along with Armenia. The Treaty of Ankara also states the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Turkey with a provisional government in a form of a Proletarian Dictatorship. South of Anatolia would be under direct control of the Soviets.

You can still build aegean/crete sea, mediterranean sea, red sea, persian gulf, and indian sea fleets! make an event of "entire nations lift the ships across the land!" or something ;)
Kuznetzov will be ever happy this much?

besides... i think you can make provisional greek republic out of aegean coast provinces, its just two, but i think they are still populated by greek majority in KR timeline (just like transdinistria was for moldavia in otl) and the provisional greek fleet, the only marines who would always push liberation and revolution acros the seas! (especially to the mediterranean :)
Oh! and don't forget the kurd ssrepublic!

welll, now you have completely cut off asia, now imperialist will have to go all the other way around, straigning their grip and influence, when you, marching east, will only strenghen while moving!

Better bengali republic consider joining you, on considerably good terms, already :D

A Soviet controlled Jerusalem and Mecca? Wow, the religious must be having seizures.

At least be nice enough to create an Israel.

Soviets in Suez? That's impressive! It also seems that Germans are facing a lot of trouble in their colonies. Maybe you could send some help to Vietminh?

Oh! and don't forget the kurd ssrepublic!

Would he be able to make one? If I read the AAR correctly, he's liberated a socialist Turkey while retaining the rest of the Middle-East in the mean time. That takes away like half of what would be Kurdish cores, so he'll be left with a weird rump in the two provinces in Iraq and one in Syria.

Though he did mention their uprising in an earlier update. Eh, no matter, he has oil.

Just to be clear, I haven't made any Turkey puppet in the game, I need Istanbul for that. I'll mention more about Turkey's condition on later updates.

@Aliasing - Good :D

@Deus Eversor - One problem. Greece is under Bulgarian occupation and Bulgaria is under German sphere. Also, no Kurdistan. I have a plan for that region.

@Rockingluke - Nope. Wrong timeline ;) The best provinces the Arabs can offer is Mosul and Dammam, just east of Riyadh, giving 13 Oil each. The total oil output of the Arab region (not just my territory) is 40. Unimpressive. Compare that in Russia where Baku is the best, giving 66 Oil in that province alone. Sadly, America got the largest. Somewhere in Texas, there's a 173 Oil province in there. Two more in California giving 53 and 55 respectively.

@SovietAmerika - Haha nice! The religious aspect of the region will be talked about later. Israel? No can do. I need Palestine for something ;) Plus, we are Reds!

@Asalto - Thanks! I might only send aid to Ho Chi Minh but no direct confrontation with the Germans.

@MercZ - yes. No Kurdistan. There were a Kurdish rebellion and I did mentioned it. I also noted that the GRU has pessimistic prediction. They were right. At the start of Jewel, no rebels in sight.

Remember when I said that I did something you won't expect. It's this one :p and I'm not done yet.
