Thread: Quick questions / Quick answers -- EU3

    Question:

When you start a Reform vote as the emperor, can it be denied? Will I(the emperor) be duly informed if it does?
I think I accidentally clicked through one message box after I asked for a reform... but is the feedback immediate?
I should imagine it takes some time before all the states have made up their mind...

They instantly vote yes/no, you can see what every member state votes for in the log at the bottom of your screen (press the +). It's a bit weird, I agree, that you don't see it in a better way.

    Yes, but only by force.
Nothing scares infantry like tanks that can see them. Nothing scares tank crews like infantry they can't see.

What methods are there to expand the area that trades through your cot? I know conquest works, but I've never played a merchant republic so I'm not sure if a trade league agreement works for that idea, but mainly I'm looking for methods aside from conquest and not requiring a merchant republic.

What are the consequences of diplo-annexing electors, if one(read MrHuman) is the current HRE?
Does the elective power go to the annexing country?

It does not automatically transfer to the country doing the annexing. Rather, it removes the elector, prompting the nomination of a new one through the means of an event that can trigger for a country in the Holy Roman Empire. The country which gets the event becomes the new elector. Being the one that removed the previous elector does not count in one's favour, but may perhaps decrease the chance if relations with the emperor gets lowered as a result.

Added: Note that if you are the emperor, you cannot become an elector. If you plan to annex an elector and you are not the emperor, I would recommend you to just keep it as a vassal. In fact, that would probably be my suggestion in most cases, except for perhaps Brandenburg and others sitting on cores you (or your rival) need for the formation of Germany.

Thank you for the informative reply.

Moving straight on to the next question: I just triggered the event overextension.
That is not a fun event, and it doesn't really give any specific guidelines on how to get
    rid of it.

How can one get rid of this modifier? I assume it has partly to do with administrative skill (it dropped from 6 to 4 when I changed
from a regency to emperor again)
I sold Calais to the English, but that didn't seem to help. I just gained a core on Aachen as well, but that didn't help either.
what is the best way to deal with this?

Well, most times I just fight my way through it until I get a new ruler, so to speak.

Indeed, you are correct that it is directly connected to administrative skill. More exactly, the lower admin skill you have, the fewer provinces can you manage. In your case (skill level four), you should be able to handle 1/3 of your empire uncored (66 % cored) -- give and take a few provinces.

The easiest way to remove the overextended modifier is to let your king die. Converting him into a general generally speeds up the process, but apart from that there is little you can do to participate in his early demise. Of course, this solution only works if your heir has a higher administrative skill than your ruler, otherwise it's not much use to trade one for the other. Still, if there are no negative effects to killing them off a little faster, you might as well convert them to generals and speed up the emergence of a genius king. If the heir is a moron, do not increase his chances of survival, like choosing the medicus in the "Heir falls ill" event.

If you are a republic (or plan to become one), select the "bureaucratic candidate" option in the next election as these have a higher chance of gaining high admin skill.

Finally, you can release one or two vassals from your uncored land. It has it's own benifits and reduces the uncored ratio while keeping indirect control over the provinces. If the uncored land isn't crap like fish-producing Indochina, I generally keep it though and wait for the ratio to decrease. Depends on how long it will take for a few cores to appear, or if the king is expected to die within an acceptable time-frame.

I'm the HRE emperor but I'm not actually part of the empire. Everytime I war with someone in the HRE, my HRE vassals lose 25-30 relations. This isn't a big deal, but would it happen if I was part of the HRE officially?

Yes. Any time you dow a member of the HRE you get a -25 relations with all. This also happens when you diploannex (so -125 to other vassals that are HRE members) or claim a throne. As long as you don't go crazy it's not a big deal as you generally will gain 3+/year with all fellow christians (obviously high infamy changes this).
