    Questions about alliances.

1 why won’t anybody ally with me? My relations are 200 my prestige is huge and yet for some reason most countries don’t want to ally with me(mostly the big ones), are there any unseen factors the game doesn’t mention?

2 sometimes my supposed ally does nothing beside defend their country from nothing, when I’m getting butchered by the enemy, Is there any way to tell your allied to attack a certain province

The AI doesn't like allying to more than 3 independent nations at a time - check you don't have a couple of allies already, and that your intended alliance partner doesn't either. Lesser partners in PUs and vassals don't count. The AI doesn't like allying with heretics or heathens, so if you're protestant, and are trying to ally a Catholic nation, it's harder. Protestant nations will normally jump at the chance, however. If you're infamous, they don't like it, and also there's a stat called trust, which is given just under mutual relations on a province diplomacy panel. This stat is important, and you can increase it by honouring treaties and the like. It's quite an influential stat, despite how hidden it is.

Unfortunately not. Some nations are really helpful in defending you, other's aren't. Try giving them military access and making sure they can get to your provinces. Otherwise, good luck.

I believe also that big nations don't like to ally with small nations, for the most part. They'd rather guarantee the small nation's independence or add them to their sphere of influence. You'll see big nations with small allies, but typically those are either vassals or nations that the big nation force released from some other country (as those automatically are put into alliance with the victor).

What nation are you playing and what year is it?

If playing as a smaller nation when you start the game for the first time wait for other nations to offer allainces. Pause the game and offer alliances with other smaller nations you want a alliance with unpause and wait for them all to accept/decline and then accept the alliances that are offered to you by other nations. I do this in most of my games. At the start I normaly end up with 6-9 allys depending on the nation.

As you grow bigger you can disolve alliances with smaller nations and bigger ones will then want to ally with you. If your realy lucky you can sometimes get the bigger powerful nations ally with you at the start such as in my Byzantium game I had Casttile accept from a maybe. Came in usefull when they honoured my call to fight the ottomans
