Overextension is a nightmare, mainly because the AI is really dumb at auto-suppressing rebels. I wish there were an adjustable maximum distance that they would travel; can't tell you how sick I am of having a Hungarian province get nationalism because two rebels spawned close to the Danzig Division and the Hungarian Division let itself get way out of position to go help the Danzig Division with rebels it could handle anyway. *sigh*
I'm hoping I can still manage to expand with PUs. I've got about 20 monarchies to go in the HRE and I'd like to get as many of them inherited before the Protestant Reformation as possible. Goal of conquering Christian Europe before the Reformation is probably out of reach, but shutting down the colonizers before any of them pick up Quest for the New World is almost done (just need to get England), so that's cool. And since I've got a naval force limit of 77 now, I can actually do it, too!

Watch out for denmark if they inherit norway, they can get some colonization going. As will every Italian OPM eventually.

Denmark's lost its PUs, and is on my radar with the Imperial Liberation CB (they've got Holstein and Osel), so they're not going to get anywhere. Independent Norway, the chuckelheads living on the Isles and the Italians are the only real threats now, and I use that term lightly - I intend to vassalize or inherit all the Italian states in the HRE, and then I just have to land PUs with Naples, Sicily and Urbino and vassalize the Papal States. Shouldn't be too hard.
I just looked at that 1463 Austria and thought... Mommy!!! :'(

'nother king, 'nother seven-country inheritance. I like how "Austria" is now covering Iberia and France instead of the actual heartland.
With only Ferrara having a throne claim, Tribal Ukraine, Imperial Ban on the Teutonic and Danish holdings in the Baltic region and Conquest and Imperial Ban on Poland, I think it's time to clean up the northeast. Also ended up bordering the Horde, but I don't feel like dealing with that nonsense yet.
Current wish list: hunting accident in England, less excommunications, and hopefully some shenanigans with Brittany too so that I can finally have a clean Frankish and Iberian domain.

The Horde looks pretty solid. Are you prepared to fight them for the next who-knows-how-many years? They could prove to be a serious distraction to rebel quashing . . .

I would say its certainly not too late for you to try for a WC there. In fact you could probably do it fairly fast if you form a republic for diplo rulers once you finish PUing
Third(?) update on my Denmark game. Current PUs are Novgorod, Pskov, Saxony, Hainaut, Ulm, Naples and Austria (going to inherit the habsburgs for the second time).
Also contemplating conquering all of Arabia.

Not at all.The Horde looks pretty solid. Are you prepared to fight them for the next who-knows-how-many years? They could prove to be a serious distraction to rebel quashing . . .I'm relying on the fact that they're as scared of fighting me as I am of fighting them and simply conceding defeat - effectively a -1 prestige penalty/yr, which is nothing to the emperor, naturally. Once I get done wrapping up Europe I'll swing back around and hammer them. No one else apparently could so I might get some nice colonizing done.
Then again, I think I literally have twice as many idle troops as they have total troops, so. If I built to my force limits (which I can afford) I could build a sufficiently large enough force to take on the hordes while continuing to fight continental Europe with present troop levels. I just need to play on a speed lower than five so I can actually manage everything....
I'm starting to think the same here. I'm going to try to finish PUs and Govt Tech 17 as fast as possible - currently an Empire for the Holy War CB and Centralization 3 cap, but I can switch from that to a Noble Republic and onward from there for Infamy burn. I've got Divine Supremacy to slow down Protestantism and give me missionaries as I go (I went Innovative because of some awesome national decisions, but I'm starting to think Narrowminded would be better for Curia influence), so next NI will be Unam Sanctam at Govt 17.I would say its certainly not too late for you to try for a WC there. In fact you could probably do it fairly fast if you form a republic for diplo rulers once you finish PUing
Well played. How are you avoiding mass infamy from HRE stuff? I'm assuming the HRE has been dismantled.-Denmark-
One hell of a Denmark there.
And I'm scared of this horde. I mean, conquering to Bohemia/Austria, and even they can't stop em?

If I were you, I'd be on full preparation. If the Emperor can't even beat the Golden Horde, you need to pray for a bloody miracle.

Well a little later, the rest of Poland fell, but they're currently rebelling like crazy, the horde's conquered Aquelia, Croatia, and Bohemia and Austria have paid them off twice. Oh and Mazovia, which was once my vassal, became a vassal of the horde
Add to all that that I have pretty high war exhaustion and rock bottom manpower between fighting Lithuania Denmark and Novgorod I don't think my chances are good lol
I'd say that TO has advantages that Bohemia and Austria are lacking: islands and coasts. I played the TO a while ago and discovered out of desperation a tactic that can be useful to keep in mind under special circumstances.
I had conquered Lithuania and only one of my provinces was bordering the horde. I was quite successful in arranging a choke point defence there, but this one time, the horde managed to rout my armies (might have been just due to unfortunate rolls, IIRC) which then were totally annihilated. Carpet sieging of the TO lands ensued. Out of stubbornness I hadn't sold Gotland, so I raised a small army, 4-5k, on Ösel and Gotland. This army was then used as a marine strike force to pick out the small horde siege forces in the coastal provinces, and retreating to Ösel or reembarking (navy ofc unchallenged by the horde) when the battle was over. Thus improving the war score, I was able to negotiate a peace with the horde before losing land.
edit: This ofc requires a bit of luck. If the horde isn't burdened by other wars or TSC, they might not accept your peace offers. Dogpiling can also be most unfortunate in a scenario like this, but then this isn't the only situation where that holds true.
For it is the iniquity of man which compels him to these tenebrous gates, seeking opiate dreams and the alluring embrace of oblivion...
And worse case? Evacuate to an island. The Horde can't use transport fleets, so you can just dog it out on an island, and wait for the Horde's bulk to pass, and then go liberate your homeland. :P
