That Kingdom of the Rhineland ... I'd bet it'd be fertile ground for a socialist revolution ....

Ouch, that's gotta sting for Prussia. I wonder if it will ever recover?

I doubt it...

With Prussia denied the chance to conquer Germany, the most central engine of instability and danger for a good deal of the late 19th and early 20th Century has been removed... I wonder what would cause a Great European War in TTL now. Maybe France will try something or Russia will get back to its (sometimes imagined) project of 'Conquering the world'. Certainly not having to worry about German power might draw it into alliance with a Revanchist, Revisionist Prussia.

In any case, good luck with this! I really like Political AARs and this one seems very inventive and well written so far :)

Communitarian!: Important doesn't nessecarily good, though it will be in the eye of the beholder I imagine. Glad you like the footnotes, I'll probably add some to the older posts, doing research can bring up some interesting tid bits, plus some events need to be explained. Louisiana's importance within the CSA will only grow as time goes on, seriously in terms of demographics, industry... but I say too much.

Sandino: Well Berlin getting a bloody nose doesn't kill German nationalism, it simply moves the ball out of Prussia's court - for now. On Cuba, I'll say no word!

Viden: Glad to have you on board

Dr. Gonzo: And how, the results are based on real Austrian war aims in 1866, very much a Prussian Brest-Litovsk. I'm not happy with the section on Germany, I might go back and explain the Treaty in more depth or do a full update on the region in the future.

Tommy4ever: Don't. you. dare! :p

Sectorknight21: I don't want to give much away but Prussia will spend much of the remaining century licking its wounds, attempting to 'Germanise' her now rather extensive Polish minority and basically being all introverted. After that... who knows.

Andreios II: Welcome! All very interesting ideas. Austria returning to prominence in Germany means she is less interested in the Balkans, which has obvious effects for Russia, the Slavs and the Ottomans. Also the 2nd Empire will now enter something of a victory-crazed 'golden age' so god knows what a Nappy III whoes on a winning streak might try! Meanwhile Britain is looking on nervously, IOTL they weren't keen on anyone winning in 1870 - Dresden has avoided anyone really dominating, but a weak Prussia gives France a free hand elsewhere. Also the Austro-French Alliance (which will be solidified when the Prince Imperial marries Archduchess Gisela in 1876) has deeply upset Italy, and with Prussia knocked out she doesn't have anywhere else to turn, not yet anyway...

The most central engine of instability and danger are the Balkans, just as always! :p

Naturally, the Balkans are going to be a rather chaotic region in any timeline... Putting an aggressive German Empire willing to do anything to expand its power and the fractious Balkans together is certainly a recipe for destruction. Jape is certainly right in saying Austria won't need to be so concerned about South-East Europe now, its dominant position in Germany is enough to justify its Great Power status.

This is a piece of impressive as well as educational writing, Jape! Since my knowledge of the Civil War is somewhat... ehm, limited, I am forced to look up almost every political figure mentioned in this AAR. Learning is fun. :)

I am really looking forward to the next round in the USA-CSA slugfest, or CSA's first excursion on foreign soil. A Confederate Cuba seems a swell idea.

Thanks for adding the maps in, especially for the elections. I like having a visual guide of who holds which state.

Not bloody likely, at least not in this timeline :)

It's a good thing time (probably) isn't casual - having every AAR happen all at the same time, in the same time would be boggling, to say the least. :) Anyway, thanks for saying too much, Jape! My thirst is quenched for now, although I cannot wait to find out exactly what those hints mean! :D

Oh I get it, bug me into restarting my AAR, so you can slink off into your student doss.

I noted you joked you probably wouldn't get to Update 5, is this some elaborate prank to end on a tantalising 4th post?

That was a joke? I thought it was just Jape stating a known fact; the sky is blue, the sun rises in the East and Jape will abandon his AAR after the first few posts.

Well we can only hope there is more to come! Back up to date again and really liking the election graphics.. simple but effective like all good things. To get the writAAR award and then disappear would be a shame lol. Anyway... I will hope for more.

The writing is beautiful, as ever Jape: please carry on with this one!

Also, how did the Rhineland come about? Is it some kind of French puppet, or directly ruled by France?
