I think, that, with your eastern flank secure, you should first pacify your western flank before pursuing an overseas campaign. I know it's a little "cliche" but you don't want to keep the French around for another year or so, do you?
so, my vote would be to keep up the diplomatic pressure. taking France and great britain should make it impossible for the Allies to counter your influence.

Nice update!
I really do like that kind of text because it adds more depth to the characters, making them more believable.

However, I'm curious as to what your next steps will be...

@Rensslaer: Well, it's only a miss-click away! ;)

@misterbean: Keep in mind that the Japanese will declare war on the USA in a little over a year. At that point influence will no longer matter, as the USA will automatically join the Allies due to how the game works, regardless of ideology or form of government (which is National Socialism by now, so they managed to change their constitution in less than a year!). For the Diplomatic approach to work, I would have to take out all of the Allies before the end of '41, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and even Mexico. I would more likely than not end up with the USA in the Allies anyway, but my forces spread out all over the World already.
I'm not saying I don't want to go down that road, as it would probably be just as interesting as the other one, all I'm saying is that the end result will most likely be the same.

@Enewald: Thanks! I was a bit lucky though. My Nordsee Flotte is pretty much invincible right now, but it's effectiveness is determined by the RAF. If the British fighters are in France, trying to fend off my interceptors, then I'm good. But they are pretty good at switching objectives between the two. I would need to extend my own air cover, but the Dutch are in the way. (Foreshadowing.)

@SSmith: Good question. I can't be absolutely sure, as I didn't follow the events that closely, but let's just assume it was a separate invasion. Hong Kong has four Divisions, and that other invasion had at least as many troops. That port is pretty big, but I don't think the AI would put that many forces into a single port. Or would it? Whatever, the point is that Japan completely freaked out and is acting reeeeeally stupid :)

@HecNev: Thanks! As for my next step, you will find out soon enough! ;)

Annex Netherlands and Switzerland and bring all Germanic peoples under one flag!

On the subject of AI invasions, I did twice witness the Italian AI landing forces on the Turkish coast in an out of supply situation in order (I'm guessing here...) to assist forces on a nearby island to break out into mainland Turkey. So I suppose it is possible that the British AI was attempting to help the forces in Hong Kong.

@DoomBunny: We'll see about that. But I'm not sure I will have time to do that. More about that in a second!

@SSmith: In theory, the AI should be able to land near ports eversince 1.4. But I'm not sure I ever saw that actually happen.

@TheCheeseMaster: Welcome to the AAR, and thank you for your compliments!

@Wellington527: Welcome to you also to my AAR! I'm glad you enjoyed it so far, and I hope you won't get disappointed later on either :)

@Everyone: Don't forget to vote on what I should do with the USA, if you hadn't do so already! Currently option A is leading with a staggering five to zero. But you still have a week to cast your votes! In the meantime, I will post a new Chapter in a few weeks, covering September of 1940.

You know what? Let's make a little poll! Which of the following two approaches would you like to see in the AAR:

a) I should keep up my current policy of trying to befriend with the USA and influence them into my faction if/when I can by keeping them out of the Allies and once that faction is defeated, and influence them into my faction before the Japanese inevitably declare war on them around November of 1941

OR

b) simply declare war on them myself right away to make things a bit more interesting! :D

You can think about it and vote in the next two weeks when I will count the votes and start on the choosen path :)

Definately B!

I'd definitely say A.
It would be interesting to see the US in the Axis for once. ALthough this would make the game alot easier for you, but it'd be nonetheless interesting to see.

Ohm... Sorry for arguing about your opinion, but I fail to see how it could make it interesting :) If I manage to get them into the Axis, there won't be anyone left to fight anyway, because I can only do that if I finish off the Allies before the Japanese attack the USA. The most probable outcome is that I fail to do that and still have to fight them and the rest of the Allies. But I will try my best if that will be the final vote ;)

having read all your responses, I would like to change my vote. get France and the british isles out of the way first, then strike across the Atlantic. don't wait until 1944. trust me on this.

I think it interesting because the US do normally not join the Axis.
From a gameplay point of view, it might make things rather "boring" but, it would add another dimension, like for example an increased Axis presence in the US...

Famous last words anyone? :D

in one ICE game, I finished everyone off, with excellent help from the Japanese and even the Italians, except the US, by 1942. fearing the USN, I decided to play turtle for a year and a half. turns out, they had over a thousand brigades, mostly arm and mech, all over the US mainland. I tried several approaches, but got rebuffed at every turn, so I decided to call it a draw.
