Alexspeed - I'm sorry about the tardiness in this post

Calza - Iceland Does start with Freedom of Trade. The mian reason it doesn't mkae money is that noone lives there. You'll see my income increases as my population increases.

olvirki - I do intend to get Steamers, but my tech situation has been fairly striaghtdorward to what I need to be doing. Other techs to use if you were playing Iceland without colonizing would be the refregerator tech.

badger_ken Thanks, you'll love the endless writing in the next post.

Part the Fourth - Waiting Game 2: Wait Harder

Before I played, I choose to modify my literacy in the game. This is a result of how the game choose literacy based on the history to begin with. You can find my discussion of this between this post and the last. I modified it to be my growth in the beginning of the game plus the starting value which Icelansd should start at. The two impacts of this is that I get Leadership and as a result Generals and Admirals like crazy. The other impact was on my research rate, making it much faster.

Nov 21st, 1847 - I begin by researching Battleship Column Doctrine, a necessary tech for me to colonize.

April 23rd, 1848 - My first Naval Base finishes construction. I continue to accumulate money for future improvements.

June 1st - Bureaucracy vs. Nepotism - An aside from the inventions. I am using my National Focus to alternately encourage Farmers and Clergymen, swapping when my percentage of clergymen reaches 2.00% and 2.10%. This allows for me to always maintain at least the optimal 2% needed for my research. This also makes my population to grow faster, as when I encourage Farmers, they grow by an almost ten fold factor.

June 26th - The Old Man and the Sea - We take the fish and then sell it off.

July 1st - Hale and Hearty - We set the international example. The only way we will be a major power is via Prestige

August 1st - Meritocracy vs. Aristocracy

October 1st -Clericalism vs. Anti-clericalism

Nov 30th - Battleship Column Doctrine finishes. It is replaced with Muzzle Loaded Rifles

Dec 1st - Populism vs. Establishment

June 1st, 1848 - Long Range Fire Tactics

October 1st - Hierarchical Order

November 26th - Muzzle Loaded Rifles end - We save up RP for the New Year

January 1st, 1850 - We begin with Nationalism and Imperialism - The hope is to expand my Plurality even further

November 11th, 1851 - Anarcho-Liberals first appear. Unfortunately in this case, they are not any better than the liberals, so I still go about appointing a Liberal Government after any election. My voters tend towards the conservative party at the moment.

November 14th, 1851 - Nationalism and Imperialism finishes. This allows for the Valley of the Kings Decision, which we are refused on our first attempt. It is replaced with Breech Loaded Rifles.

June 1st, 1852 - Speedy Maneuvering Tactics

September 1st - Collectivism

February 1st, 1853 - Chemotherapy

April 30th - Breech Loaded Rifles complete. We begin researching Romanticism in order to establish the prestige needed for a secondary power.

July 1st - Separatism

July 7th - Liberty Shines - And other nations sing our praise

November 15th - We try again and succeed in getting an excavation permit.

December 1st - Manifest Destiny and Hegelian Idealism

April 15th, 1854 - Romanticism finishes. Realism succeed it.

October 1st - Mission to Civilize

November 1st - Romanticist Music

January 1st, 1855 - National Fraternity

Sometime after this, I break 20 thousand working persons!

June 1st - Expansionism

June 12th - Our goals to befriend Great Britain has succeeded as much as it can at the moment, with military access and high relations. The eventual hope is for them to sphere me at some point. Diplomatically we begin to woo the French

September 16th - Realism finishes, Impressionism follows

February 14th, 1856 - We begin construction on the second level of the naval base. The reason that we delayed so long is because the game is very finicky with the way it works. When I tried earlier to purchase the needed stockpiles and have just barely the needed money, I would go bankrupt, something which frustrated me to no end.

March 1st - Realist Literature - This propels me to 14th ranked in the world, boosting many aspects of the nation as I enter secondary nation status.

February 1st, 1857 - Atheism

July 1st - Determinism

July 18th - Impressionism ends, Ad-Hoc Money Bill Printing Succeeds

October 1st - Romanticist Art

November 1st - A rather crazy day. A picture presents why.

v2528.jpg

From 12th to 7th is quite impressive. I am still a secondary power after this, as I am a single state nation.

June 3rd, 1858 - Ad-Hoc Money Bill Printing is replaced with Experimental Railroad - The rails won’t be built for some time under the Laizze Faire system I am forced at the moment.

Nov 10th - Experimental Railroad becomes Positivism

July 1st, 1859 - Realist Music

July 14th - The Naval Base finishes

September 24th - Positivism finishes. RP is stored for later.

January 1st, 1860 - Using the stored RP, Empiricism begins with a fair bit of progress

February 21st - Socialists! - In the next election, we will set them to be our party, but they are incredibly useful as the only non lazzie faire government we have now.

June 27th - The Blight of 1860 hits as we spare no effort in relieving the local farmers. This serves to emphasize the need for Inorganic Chemistry, which greatly reduces the MTTH of such events.

August 1st - Romanticist Literature

October 1st - Impressionist Literature

January 12th, 1861 - Empiricism ends as we begin Raider Group Doctrines

October 26th, 1861 - Lockout allows for me to make 40% of the Poor Socialist this is an amazing event, allowing for me to build up support for a Socialist Upper House

February 22nd, 1862 - Raider Group Doctrine finishes, we commit ourselves to Inorganic Chemistry. On the same day, we begin the construction of the Naval Base.

June 22nd, 1862 - The French give us military access. We begin to appease Russia

April 1st, 1863 - Big Ship Competitor and Inorganic Chemistry end. Functionalism begins

May 1st - Nitroglycerin

June 1st - Silver Standard

July 1st - Pragmatism

October 8th - Union Busting - An odd benefit of my population is that I can increase the militancy and consciousness of a nonexistant class.

December 1st - Sealane Hunters

February 1st, 1864 - Impressionist Music

May 4th - Functionalism ends, Biologism begins.

September 1st - Chemical Wood Pulp Production

November 6th - The US Civil War begins. Interestingly, the CSA has Florida, something which it doesn’t happen very much. They do look likely to succeed for a change. This game, the US has kind of been everyone’s toy, with the UK taking back New England, a sizable Mexico, and a still existent Texas

February 1st, 1865 - Prophylaxis against Malaria - Another tech needed for Colonization

February 21st - The last Naval Base needed is completed - This allows for me to jut barely reach West Morocco, which is forced to be my first colony. The Railroad finally begins to be laid down, permitted under the Socialist Planned Economy Government

May 1st - Catalytic Fermentative Process and Biased Multiculturalism

July 19th - Forward! - My Poor Strata is now pretty much entirely Socialist

September 21st - Lockout! again. More socialists for the masses.

October 1st - Empiricism

October 11th - Biologism finishes. We begin to store RP for 1870. You will see how it used later on.

December 1st - Fast Ship Killer

January 1st 1866 - The increase in Socialism allows for me to begin adding more Social Reforms again. I begin by increasing the Minimum Wage

March 3rd - The Meiji Reformation is enacted. This is the first time I’ve seen this in 1.2, and Japan becomes a Secondary Power as soon as it civilizes. I’m kinda surprised, as I find that China likes to civilize.

May 1st - Rubber Vulcanization

December 1st - Darwinism

February 1st, 1867 - Minimum Wages are as high as they can be, Pensions begin to be supported

March 4th - Railroads are built

September 2nd - Jacobin Rebel’s enforce their demands in the US. At the same time, Alaska is sold. Oddly, Russia keeps their presence in the Pacific Northwest, and can be seen colonizing uncolonized Alaska

October 1st - Standard Raider Group Doctrine

Janaury 1st, 1868 - Pensions reach their highest reform

May 1st - Social -Darwinism

August 7th - Palmerston Botanical Expedition - We send our explorers in search of Fame and Glory.

September 24th - Russia grants us Military Access. I now begin to influence the other Colonial Powers (Portugal, Netherlands, etc.) in order to prevent colonial disputes in the future.

November 22nd - The Botanical Expedition returns, with no result for us.

December 29th - Whitehorse Botanical Expedition - We send our explorers out again.

February 1st, 1869 - Generous Unemployment Subsides mean that we have enacted all Social Reform.

October 28th - Liberia follows it’s US controller, falling to Anarcho-Liberals

November 1st - Artificial Fertilizers - somehow this makes more fish. Strange.

December 1st - Decimal Monetary System

January 1st, 1870 - The waiting game ends. We can now begin defining our own destiny in the world, and show the dominance of the Icelandic people.

Some things to note about the world:

Iceland and the Other great powers:

Some of the interesting things in the world is Russia’s Presence in central Asia, Expansionist Argentina and Brazil in South America, Frances Expansion into Spain, and Prussia’s Austrian holding’s. Other than that, I feel the world has been fairly quiet.

What predictions do you have for my colonial adventures? What horrible mistakes have I made? Will I make it to the year 2000? All this and more in part 6.

A question for you gentlemen.

While it is known that a single province nation cannot become a Great Power, is this true if they have colonial territory? If you know, then respond, cause this will likely influence my future play methods.

Part the Fourth - Waiting Game 2: Wait Harder

I think you messed up the title of the chapter, its your chapter 5!
If you can correct it please do so, edit for that is granted :)

Table of Contents needs update too.
-------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your Chapter 5!
You are set with this for the contest, altough i hope to read many more chapters! :)

We need to see icelandic colonies! ...NO! I demad icelandic colonies! :D

Quite some interresting developments.

You made some good progress i think and soon you will be able to colonize,
congratulations, i think thats a feat in itself with Iceland! :)

Also i think you made the right thing with modding the literacy up.

The thing with florida not joining the CSA... i am not sure but i think that was a problem in 1.1
and in version 1.2 they made it more likely that they join, not sure tough on that.

And you have railroads! From one geysir to the next glacier! :D

I am sorry i dont know the answer to this question, hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will be able to answer this.

It is chapter 5, and I did mess up titling. Unfortunately, it seems that one is unable to edit the title of a post once it's been posted, so I would need a Mod to do that.

In response to your second point, a speech:
An Important Icelandic Political Figure said:
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Icelandic dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the white geysers of Reykjavik, the sons of European Icelanders and the sons of African Icelanders will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of West Morocco, a state sweltering with the heat of the people who are not aware of their Icelandic character, sweltering with the heat of ignorance, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom, justice and the Icelandic way.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.

Martin Luther King, Jr. sheds a tear for the icelandic dream! :D

wow, fantastic job - very impressive.

An aside from the inventions. I am using my National Focus to alternately encourage Farmers and Clergymen, swapping when my percentage of clergymen reaches 2.00% and 2.10%.

There's been discussion on the forum that the actual max is 4%, not 2% - the docs (and tooltip) are wrong. This is based on the 'MAX_CLERGY_FOR_LITERACY = 0.04' in the config file.

November 11th, 1851 - Anarcho-Liberals first appear.

You have no army, correct? so what happens - do the anarcho-liberals take over, but you don't care about it?

November 14th, 1851 - Nationalism and Imperialism finishes. This allows for the Valley of the Kings Decision, which we are refused on our first attempt.

So was i, as Denmark :(

June 1st, 1852 - Speedy Maneuvering Tactics

this one seems an odd choice - why choose it?

May 1st - Nitroglycerin

June 1st - Silver Standard

Amazin' - you're going to probably have entirely researched the tech tree by end of game.

February 1st, 1869 - Generous Unemployment Subsides mean that we have enacted all Social Reform.

This decreases MIL of the unemployed, correct? Since you have no unemployed, and probably never will (soon you will have a giant sucking sound of emigration to your colonies), why bother with it?

The state of the nation...

Hmm, it seems that the name of the ruling party has been replaced by a random character sequence :)

What predictions do you have for my colonial adventures? What horrible mistakes have I made? Will I make it to the year 2000? All this and more in part 6.

(Feedback! Give it!)

predictions - you have been banking your RP so that you can get Machine Guns ASAP, and then you will colonize Morocco. After that, you will still be hamstrung by naval range until Morocco builds a naval base, so my guess is that you will expand overland in the Mauretania/Mali/Niger direction. After that, I would guess annexation of Sokoto.

If you haven't by then, annexing Sokotan(?) provinces will probably finally make you a GP, at which point I will predict that an aggressive second-rank power (Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, etc.) will DOW you.

That's about 30 years of predictions, I'll stop there :)

You have inspired me to play a one-state minor game. You should feel proud.

I really like your AAR. Very challenging and unique starting position. I would never have the patience to deal with the waiting required, and so applaud you for doing so. Totally agree with the decision to modify literacy % to a historically plausible figure.

A question for you gentlemen.

While it is known that a single province nation cannot become a Great Power, is this true if they have colonial territory? If you know, then respond, cause this will likely influence my future play methods.

I do not know the answer either. Based on the big difference between how the game handles other aspects of colony vs. state (building of industry, admin efficiency, warscore cost, etc.), I suspect that being a Great Power requires 2 states rather than just 2 regions. If it is really important to you to know this for sure, then I suspect decent odds you could search through game files and find out. Becoming a Great Power is essentially an event, so good odds that the rules for it are contained in one of the event files (rather than being buried in the executable).

I suppose Rastar is right with assuming 2 states are necessaary, it sounds logical.
But after all i still dont know.

Hope to see your next update soon :)

Hmn...

It seems to me that there's not so much any 'mistakes' in your AAR is that your choices'll end up influencing every step you take, ala dominoes or a Sting song (that has always seemed to me creepy and about stalkers but I digress). Landing in NW Africa gives you a strong grasp onto the continent and raises the possibility of delving deeper. Just be careful - you *AAR* Iceland, lame pun intentional. I'd take island chains you can hop from, but that won't make up for population - so you made a good choice, I think.

And that saying about sleep being for the weak? Hells yeah. :p

Surume, fascinating AAR! :D Very good knowledge of the game mechanics, and remarkably well applied. How have you been able to research so quickly? This is somewhat stunning to me, as I have been researching as Siam and can't match your speed -- a difference between v1.1 and v1.2 perhaps?

I'm aware of no "rule" that says a one-province minor cannot become a Great Power. However, there is a very practical limit on your ability to earn the requirements, and that is that your home province cannot adequately support an industrial state with just one province to draw labor from. Possible, but very difficult. Theoretically, it might be possible to make it if you had colonies, but only once those colonies become states (no longer colonies). And unless your colonies are close together and part of the same state, then they will face the same problems your home province faces (i.e. cannot staff factories). Seemingly your only other option would have to be conquest.

Whatever path you take, I'm looking forward to seeing what you can accomplish!

The Contest has reached its end now, and is closed for further chapters!

Anything posted after this posting will not be taken in account from any judge.
You are also free to continue your AAR in any style and form that you prefer,
and arnt bound by any contest rules any more.

Thank you very much for your participation!

The final Overview Posting is here!

The judging is in progress, watch the contest thread
for the announcment of the scores as soon as i get them. :)

Expect a new post in a little bit.

Alexspeed - Yeah, I think that modding the Literacy was needed. Parts of this may have been possible, but no where near this speed, and I would have had to have been extremely lucky.

badger_ken - It's odd seeing you colonize in your AAR. It has so many parallells to mine, but is also very different.

Regarding the Clergy and Literacy, if the max pop for literacy gain is 4%, then is the max pop for RP gain from clergy also 4%?

I'm simply announcning the introduction of Anarcho-Liberals in the world. I think that they make their first appearance somewhere in Saxe-Colberg-Gotha or something.

Speedy Maanuvering tactics was simply a result of researching for the needed naval bases.

I'm unlikely to research all of the trees, especially the military ones, but I'll probbably get a signifigant amount of them done.

The Generous Subsidies, and all of the social reforms are mostly done to encourage my Pops not to leave iceland. They also will be useful at some future point when I have pops piling up in Iceland as they wait to emigrate to Africa.

It seems to have affected all of my political parties.

You'll find that your predictions are off, although yours are interesting. Conquering Sokoto does require a military, something which I don't have as off yet.

BootOnFace - I hope that you are playing a difficult OSM, like Hawaii or Montenegro. I think that I'm showing that Iceland is simply to broken and easy to play. :)

Rastar, Alexspeed - I did a little bit of research and it seems that I need to States to become a GP. Seems. You'll see what happens in my next post.

Communitarian - On the contrary, I think that I already have made some mistakes. As you'll see in the next chapter, my Clergy Ratio drops under 2% during my colonization. This drop in my research rate is no good, as it slows down my critical advantage over every other nation. I'm sure that there are other mistakes, but that one is definately the one that hit me the most with a "Duh!"

olvirki - I trust your skills in Icelandic much more than mine. Also, your AAR is looking pretty swell, and very much different from mine.

Rennslaer - I'm quite honored to have you comment on my AAR. Your AAR's were among the first I read when I discovered PI.

I think that the main difference in our research speeds is Literacy, and the ability to precisely control Iceland. Quite obviously, Iceland starts with a higher Average Literacy, which can give up to 3RP by itself. Besides this, the 1.2 Read me states that Literacy Gain is faster then 1.1. However the main factor is that I do not have to waste time researching for Civilizing, and because of the interesting diplomatic situation of Iceland (It's a in the middle of nowhere), we do not have to build up a military presence. This allows me to focus the utmost on improving my research, through the techs which increase RP Generation, Plurality, and Literacy Gain. The other thing is that with Iceland, the 3 Pops mean that I can observe and change what they are with simple ease, especially compared to a multi state, multicultural nation like Siam. This get's to the brick and the house metaphor I used earlier in the AAR. You'll see this change, and that I begin to make mistakes as soon as I colonize, as I get overwhelmed working with all the territories I control, and I will probably never be able to maintain any sort of similar control over my nation. It's really quite the conundrum.

Alespeed - Although I don't have any expectation of winning, with many other, better AAR's in the contest, I do eagerly await the judging, and more specifically why Judges assigned that value to me, as I constantly seek to grow better.

Update Shortly!

I trust your skills in Icelandic much more than mine. Also, your AAR is looking pretty swell, and very much different from mine.

Yeah, if you need any help naming things in the AAR, let me know. It is good we are going in different directions, and what are the odds having 2 Icelandic AARs ?

Also, what does difficulty chance ? I chanced to very easy but shortly later back to normal because I could not see any difference.

Part the Sixth - Of Expected and Unexpected Happenings

Olvirki - Difficulty changes the benefits that you or the AI nations get, mainly boosts in RP Generation, Literacy Gain, Diplomacy Point Generation, Leadership, etc. It definitely is a huge factor in the research advantage that I hold.

Also did anyone else have difficulty posting on the forum last night? I was having so much difficulty posting that I simply waited until morning to post this. Must be something wrong with a server.

Now that the contest is over, I feel a little better about not having to restrain my wordiness and using pictures.

I begin the New Year by putting an emphasis on Machine Guns. It hurts me to choose this, as it slows down my tech rate by putting Analytic Philosophy even later, but I need to be colonizing as soon as possible, before the big colonizers, like Britain, France, and Portugal get in on the action.

On the subject of colonizing, I feel like now would be an appropriate time to describe my plan for attacking the wildness of Africa. While there is perfect map of what I want to display, use the following map of the states as a point of reference.

v2360.jpg

My initial choice is obvious, forcing me into colonizing the Western Morocco shoreline. From here, I have a few options. What I will be trying to do is to colonize as far North as possible. Because I am on good terms with France, I am more unlikely to get a Colonial Incident to occur, while I may against other colonial powers, like Portugal, Denmark, and Spain might be more aggressive. Also, if one observes, the Northern states are also dessert states, which means that they will be more likely to generate factories when they become states, as they reduce the the size of the farms and mines in the territories. Also If I go south from West Morocco, the states become more and more confusing and jumbled. They also mean that the country label, “Icelandic Africa” will be even bigger when displayed, which is the most important thing :)

In summation the plan for Africa is West Morocco -> Eastern Sahara -> Western Sahara. or to the farthest north states which are accessible to me.

January 16th - Machine Guns finish, and I begin Analytic Philosophy. West Morocco begins colonization.

January 31st - Analytic Philosophy finishes. This pushes my RP generation to 34.97 RP a day. I continue with Expressionism, to maintain my prestige lead on the rest of the world.

February 18th - My stockpile of RP finally runs out. I no longer progress through my Research at a rate of 1000 RP a day. It slows down, meaning that completion will be mid March.

March 9th - Expressionism Finishes, coinciding with the death of an admiral. I continue with Social Science, hoping to increase my education speed and my colonial prestige.

March 27th - The Geneva Convention happens. We sign on, to preserve the nonexistent Soldier Pop

April 25th - My Fort completes construction.

July 1st - Logical Positivism

July 17th - “Egyptian Tomb Discovered”

September 1st - Expressionist Music, Philosophy of Language

March 1st, 1871 - Analytic Philosophy

March 15th - “Campaign for Married Woman’s Property Act” - We choose to ignore them, increasing our overall Consciousness and Liberalness. I will be trying to enact Woman’s Suffrage, but not with any great emphasis.

June 1st - Modern Logics

June 30th - Social Sciences finish. We begin to research the Practical Steam Engine. At this point, I’m beginning to pick up all of the basic Commerce and Industry Techs which I skipped in my rush to colonize.

July 17th - “Bribing Officials” We bribe them off course.

September 11th - Our Clergymen drop to less than 2% of the population, reducing the rate of RP generation. This is in part countered by the increase in plurality which is happening, but we can’t really encourage Clergymen until we are done with colonization.

December 1st - Sociology

January 21st, 1872 - Practical Steam Engine finishes. We replace it with Organic Chemistry.

September 1st - Social Anthropology

September 5th - The Icelandic Red Star - We choose to give the nonexistent Rich Strata more consciousness and militancy.

March 12th, 1873 - Organic Chemistry finishes, We begin to research Stock Exchange

May 24th - We reach 50.1% on the West Morocco colony. Hopefully it only takes 3 more years fro the second half.

June 22nd - “No Good Chain Gang” - We increase the consciousness of the middle strata from 10 to 10.

June 24th - I realize the Iceland RGO is now full. I begin to generate unemployed farmers, many of which emigrate to the New World, but many of which hang about Iceland.

August 20th - “Sympathy Strike”

October 8th - Stock Exchange finishes. I begin to research Revolution and Counterrevolution in order to allow myself Women’s Suffrage in the near future.

November 1st - Social-psychology

January 1st, 1874 - Multitude of Financial Instruments

January 17th - “Letter Campaign” -The populace finds themselves more Liberal all of a sudden.

February 1st - Carbon Soil Enrichment

May 9th - “Suffragettes and Suffragists”

July 1st - Gaslights

December 4th - I discover the next colonizer of Africa.

v2422j.jpg

I guess England is probably the best of all possible situations, as it won’t be very aggressive towards me, and is likely to be good for cutting out the other potential colonizers.

January 1st, 1875 - I see that the UK has also begun to colonize Northern Cape. Considering how unlikely I was too reach there, it’s good that they are reaching it, and not Portugal or anyone else.

March 18th - Revolution and Counterrevolution finishes. I enact Women’s Suffrage as a result, and begin Mechanical Production.

July 1st - Womens Suffrage Movement and Traditionalism trigger on the same day.

September 1st - Regulated Buying and Selling of Stocks

September 4th - Krakow spoils the fun of Egyptian Archeology, discovering “Tutankhamen's Tomb”.

October 16th - Mechanical Production ends, High and Low Pressure Steam Engines begins.

November 1st - We have the best type of party, the Vanguard Party! It doesn’t really have any significant effect yet, as Communist’s aren’t around yet.

December 18th - The UK declares war on the US. While the results are pretty foreseeable, it will be interesting to see the US being taken a bite out of.

January 1st, 1876 - A busy day - Political Science, Insurance Companies, Pitts Threshing Machine

January 16th - “Lockout” - I choose to lockout the rich strata again, which doesn’t exist.

April 16th - Russia declares war on the US. The Eagle dies a death of a million paper cuts..

May 16th - “Botanical Expedition Reports Back” - We support our boys of course!

June 7th - Britain colonizes Gambia. They continue with their colonization, seemingly eager to be our neighbors.

v2450.jpg

August 15th - We reach 50000 Icelanders. This island is getting quite full.

August 29th - High & Low Pressure Steam Engines finish, and we begin researching Steam Turbines.

November 9th - We are at 99.9%

November 10th - Victory!

v2457.jpg

We continue, colonizing West Central Sahara.

November 10th - We begin construction on an Naval Base in Aaiuan

November 24th - We begin construction on a Naval Base in Dakhla. Both of these buildings will not start until there is lumber available on the World Market.

Looking at the population of West Morocco, it will be interesting to look at future assimilation. There is about 5k Native Populations, mostly evenly split between Maures, Bedouin and Berbers. They will all grow quite fast considering the Population Growth Modifiers I have, but they will also be swarmed with immigrating Icelandic Farmer Pops coming from the Mainland. I expect them to be dwarfed by these in a few months, and for them to subsume most of the population soon.

December 15th - “Bread Riots” - The Liberals win this round.

Febuary 27th, 1877 - My Position in the world falls from 7th in the world to 8th as Japan begins to industrialize. Thankfully I’m still a hundred points above the next competitor, Mexico.

March 5th - It happens

v2470.jpg

That was quite unexpected.

(Your homework for today is to tell me why I wasn't expecting this, and what it means, both Bad and Good for me.)

I fail my homework, due to not quite being sure - I'm pretty sure it increases most modifiers slightly, and has some large effect on diplomacy points and assimilation (or maybe that's a trick of my mind?). Also, it means that other countries'll be more eager to be your allies/sphere'd (sphere of influence, which has great economic effects and essentially = client state) but also more cautious of you - even though Iceland doesn't have an endless military, it's cultural might can be felt around the world right now. I'd keep one eye open - but honestly have no idea if any great powers'd really want to knock you down a peg.

Also, I like that one of your goals is to increase the prominence of Icelandic Africa. Honestly, that's the main draw for territory in my mind. :p Economic and logistical gain? Tsch. Think of the screencaps, gentlemen!
