Well, it's entirely possible that Tamara's manipulations altered Talena's personality as comprehensively as she did the timeline. You can explain almost anything away with temporal paradoxes.

You mean you don't want to remember her as a dominating tyrant, but rather a rather angry and confused soldier?

That's fine, I had a lot of second thoughts about doing it this way, and like Sather I'm still not sure this was the best way. However, onward and upward!
