Johore is still intact? It would go well with your new East Indies collection :D Have you passed any social reforms yet?

I like Johore as well, assuming you could use the money. Otherwise, would love to see you take CFKAP down a notch or two.

The Steve Martin pic is full of win.

Enewald: I think that was AC/DC

4th Dimension: Snail fork? Doesn't sound right to restrict liberty to the citizens of Atlantis.

aldriq: The Ireland was the AAR was the only one I had closed. A big part of it was that I was tired of listening to ubik trying to take credit for the AAR. This kind of leads into my first paragraph of this post about ego. ;)

Ethiopia needs to be saved from themselves. Notice they’re covered in rebels.

Rastar: Finally out of that bar?

At this point in the game, no one needs money. Its surprising how useless it is throughout most of the game.

I began thinking about ego on the forums today. It seems to be broken down into a few different tiers. The ones with the most? Modders obviously. All you have to do is glance into the pile of self-love of the MM subforum in the EU3 section. Its prevalent in other areas but... anyway... Who knows the reason why? Maybe it’s a whole I-know-the-game-better-than-you thing? Still, you’re only a modder working for free on the Internet.

Then we have the AAR writers that’ve been around since the dawn of time. It is amazing. Maybe it’s the fawning all over one another those writers did early on. They still do it these days but they don’t do it as often, probably because most of them turned 50 and set the keyboard aside.

The next line are the bulk of your AAR writers but I really fell into this world of Paradox online egoism when I joined the Blood Bowl league last year. I didn’t get to know everyone but I got to know enough of them that I didn’t ask to join another season. At least there was one decent person in that group I played with.

I don’t get how anyone can have an ego on the Internet... unless its manufactured for an AAR or two. ;)

At least they’re not as bad as modern video game companies who give the buyer the “Its not me, its you” routine reversal.

This isn’t universal but it was something I was thinking about while I started updating today. So here’s our completely awesome and better than anyone else’s who ever wrote anything 1920 update.

Notice the military scores. The game didn't slow to a crawl. As a side note, most of my military score comes from ships so I would just get slammed in a war v. France or the CFKAP. I was too lazy to create a bunch of army units that I'd have to distribute and move.

A big part of it was that I was tired of listening to ubik trying to take credit for the AAR.

Heretic! You should be grateful that he graced your thread with his presence!

Seriously, though, ego is not only preserved on the internet, it's augmented to new levels, as there is such disconnect between actions and consequences. For example, I can do this to you: :p Repeatedly :p :p See? :p :p No consequences. I wouldn't dream of doing it in real life, but here it's different.

What was this blood bowl?

I suspect I'm missing something but does your socialist government and society really ban trade unions?

Amused by the comments on forum egotism - I recall being firmly put in place writing the Iroquois AAR when some old timer dismissed it as only gameplay so not a proper AAR

I suspect it's my lack of badly written unpublished novels that's my downfall ;)

aldriq: I don’t mind ego, I think it’s a good thing. But when its misplaced in places - like the Internet - it makes people look ridiculous. The only thing that gives them any credibility are other ridiculous people and, well, this is the Internet. :)

I heard about BB last year sometime and picked it up in early/mid December. Basically different Warhammer - never played the Warhammer games but picked it up anyway - races play on a field/pitch using a mishmash of rugby/American football rules. Its free to play online but I usually don’t. I think even with the tournament I only have 15 online games over the course of the year. I used to play online games like Tribes and that when they first came out but these days, teenagers and school kids play one specific game over and over again for hours and hours a day. It just isn’t easy to find casual players online. Some people just take the online stuff way too seriously. Its probably been a good four or five months since I’ve had an online game of any kind aside from cards. Strangely, the people with those misplaced egos are often the easiest to rip off. :D

PrawnStar: The government are the Nationalists who have to fight every election to beat back the left. The Conservative/Nationalists are able to reach a majority every time due to the number of offshoot parties. Basically, the divisions on the left permits me to maintain my Nationalist government which I love. In Vik I I hated those SC governments but here they’re much more manageable.

Its strange that someone would come at you for a gameplay not being an AAR. Through the genres you just have to wonder which “AAR” an officer would like to receive

- A 100 page narrative on some insignificant family in the province in question having some problem that will have no bearing on anything.

- An on again off again supposed comedy.

- Some long history book-like text covering the last 400 years of the country

- or an actual fact by fact play of the game.

Adding onto the ego remark, here's a little known fact: The only reason the comedy “genre” is in the ACA competition is due to one person’s ego. You learn a lot about the forum when you reconstruct a library half a decade old. ;)

As for the unpublished writing, isn’t that most Paradox narratives? The few who could actually sell something end up screwing themselves by publishing it on the forums and writing for a niche market. One must also question their dedication if they can only complete something novel-like with a million people rooting them on. Hemingway almost said it best, “The only person lonelier than a writer while writing is a suicide.”

To all: An update on the first post of this thread. It’ll be completed when I post the last update of this thread. So when that happens, check back on the first post for links to the best lines and pics of these Brandenburg III styled AARs.

In other AAR news, the DB updates will begin today sometime - without pics and when I get through editing/copying it to my computer from my notepad... I like writing longhand - and the Rome AAR will resume tomorrow, or if I have time, tonight. However, these two Victoria II AARs will take precedent when time constricts.

And yeah, I find it hilarious that you guys elected this as the best Victoria II comedy AAR. Why do I feel like the loser at prom who is elected Prom King? There’s something serious wrong with you people. :p By the way, is this the only AAR to go out of its way to offend its readers? - aside from the AARs that go political.

The other day I finally had someone ask me, “Why don’t you make your own game?” I suppose its due to the blog? But when I asked for the funding he balked. What’s the deal? I’ll take your offer and make your game but you have to give me the cash to do it if you’re going to challenge me. Of course I’ve seen the ‘Why don’t you make a game?’ complaint before. It was a staple question early on in the opening days of EU3. It’s a ridiculous argument because those people never want to provide the funding. How dare they get my hopes up! Although I doubt I’d use their cash to make the game. There are still liquor and girls in the world, after all.

slth8y.jpg

I don’t know... I think they’re supposed to be lesbian vampires or something. Don't look at my like that, I’m free again. Turns out when girls fall off mountains they get really needy. So from here on out I’m taking my relationship advice from Sam Kinison.

Anyway, after 1920 I waited a few months before activating a CB against Nejd for humiliation. Have I mentioned I love fighting uncivs this late in the game?

15s3pt3.jpg

There wasn’t much going on over the next six months. Its kinda like playing poker. You’ll sit around waiting for stuff to happen but when opportunities show up

11hxfz5.jpg

you’re busy fighting nations like Nejd! Of course I almost never play those stupid cards anyway but there’s enough donkeys who catch them that it annoys you when you miss.

So between the war beginning and ending on 25 July, the UK went to war with the US over New England - or if you’re from Nahwlin’s, its Nangland - the elections came to an end and Russia stopped being a Great Power. My guess it wasn’t by choice.

Basically the below pic is how I’m able to keep the Nationalists in power.

party.jpg

20 September I brought Sweden into my sphere. Its kinda my thing. Meanwhile the Brits were getting their asterisks handed to them by the Americans... again.

zv2vn.jpg

Yup, brought to you by England’s favorite actor.

I think that’s good enough for tonight. I think two or three more updates will get us through the twenties. If I stopped updating with that sweet, sweet nectar on my desk, we’d probably actually get some AARing done.

35amcrd.jpg

Oh, come on. Expecting a real update from me is kind of like expecting to sit down to a nice meal with Armin Meiwes.

To all: Moving/unpacking has taken a little more time than anticipated and with the holidays up I’m going to try to get updates out whenever I can get them.

A whole lot of nothing happened month after month. The US/UK signed a white peace; Sweden went to war with Denmark but I declined the Swedes their aid and Austria went to war with the CFKAP by mid 1923. Around this time my colonies went dry which was really too bad. Maybe they ran out of sugar, who knows?

vz33q.jpg

With cash flowing through my fingers like lavender, bergamot, ylang sandalwood and chammomile, I decided to make four African provinces into states. I can’t remember my rational for this but sometimes I do things just because I can.

2d19ufr.jpg

And here’s something odd. The Russians, totally disinterested in Russia, permitted me to colonize a piece of ignored land. Not to worry though, for Russia was still in turmoil!

1605v0o.jpg

1924 was even quieter - Hemingway would’ve been proud - with a peaceful resolution to the Austrian/CFKAP war favoring CFKAP with hegemony, and a Russian DoW on the OE for N. Caucasia.

Things began getting a little interesting for me again in 1925 when on 6 May 501 Communist brigades rose in rebellion. Have no fear for I’m confident they’re gonna die faster than hate blogs about Bush... unless they immediately DoW Sarah Palin. Hey, people gotta eat.

11t6emb.jpg

By July, the start of the elections, I’ve knocked out plenty, leaving a mere 303 communist brigades. Announcing something like that on these forums is going to cause a flood of tears. Invest in a small boat and rain gear when signing in next time.

The Nationalists held control in January 1926 with 41.56%; at the same time, there were only 48 Communists left. I think we can see where this is going.

2625ikj.jpg

Over the course of the year the Russians and OE signed a white peace. Who knows why Russia declared war or why the OE didn’t take advantage like a creepy old man trying to help a webcam girl through college. And the creepy part isn’t the old man, it’s the girl. Why didn’t the OE do anything? But this is 1.1 so we can't complain and can move onto the slovenly pace of 1.2.

26 December the commies were all destroyed, leaving me with little to do aside from reorganizing my troops. That, is a pain. It’d be great if there were a “Home” designation you could give certain units along with a button and when pressing that button, all units would go “Home.” But keep this option for the player and far away from the AI. Things are slow enough as it is.

The expansion of Belgium in strange areas continued in early 1927 when I finished colonizing S. America. Colonizing open areas in the very late game is a little repetitive and was kind of like when I quit drinking this morning... and the morning before that... and the morning before that... what the **** is up with this getting old ****.

setz69.jpg

So what have we covered tonight? 1) Apparently Motley Crue are satanists 2) There are, wait, scratch that, were a ton of Communists in Belgium 3) Work on not getting old unless you’re a comic. For some reason old comics are funny. We certainly can’t turn to today’s comedians for humor. 4) When moving be sure to leave behind at least one pen or else you’ll be updating and crossing out pages of your AAR with blue crayon.

I always figured you had crayon only days anyway - grounds of public safety :p

I've bought Vicky2 but haven't got around to playing (it'll screw up my AAR) - the more AARs I read the more boring it looks :(

Enewald: Where he can eat chocolate.

PrawnStar: You know, being institutionalized is a weird thing.

Bear in mind this was 1.1. South America has been filled in and there were plenty of changes made in 1.2 but it can become slow. In 1.1 the AI didn’t know how to handle rebels as can be seen from the decades Russia has been suffering. While that problem was fixed with 1.2, the rebels have seemingly been completely obliterated from any activity whatsoever.

I can’t say too much what has changed with 1.2 since I’ve only played the Bukkhara game to 1890 and have only recently began a game as Persia and am only 20 years in. When I go to Paradox games, I don’t go to Victoria II anymore - and I’ve only had it about two months or so. What the biggest killer about the game is the speed. 1.1 could go as fast as light but 1.2, no matter what you do with the settings, it just drags. This isn’t a universal problem so you may not have it; it seems to be a hit and miss kind of thing. If the 1.3 patch doesn’t fix the speed issues and a few other things, it looks like I’ll be doing with Victoria II what I did with EU III. Wait until the Complete version comes out.

Basically the biggest problems I have with Victoria II is the speed and the company doesn’t know what to do with the rebels. Since I have the Steam version I can’t go back to 1.1 even though when I patched 1.2 from the Paradox site it worked fine, so I’m stuck with this slow version. And 1.1 had rebel fixes which fixed the rebels while still giving you a rebellion here and there. I’ve had two in this game.

A minor nagging issue I have are the lack of events. There’s nothing to do while you’re waiting to burn off BB. POP management has been taken away so that isn’t an option, you can only busy yourself with building/expanding factories for a few seconds at a time because there’s so little effort on the player’s part and if you’re not in a war, you’re probably at your desk reading a book on the Russian Revolution...

aldriq: Semicolon is a lost art.

The fascists, I think, came too late. I have yet to have a single communist country form.

Excellent news! I found a pen! Bad news, I poked out my eye. At least I can get that high dizzy feeling by tying my eyeball to a yoyo whenever I want.

1 July I noticed something a little odd. I was the only country producing barrels. I think I even put stuff in them. You know, legal stuff... like... pads. Yeah, legal pads. I’m sure someone could use them.

whbrlf.jpg

About a month later I permitted Symbolic minimum wage. This means that people will still be dirt poor but some may be able to get by through busking. Whatever brings ze money. Mwahahahaha.

jk92qx.jpg

29 May 1928 the last of the Communist occupations fell. Oh noes! The worst Rocky movie can never be made!

2uqcgt2.jpg

At this point I had enough BB to spend that I thought about DoWing CFKAP but I didn’t feel like playing out a long drawn out war. Instead, I went to war against Persia. They’re my go-to war country. Its kind of my like addiction to Red Red Kroovy when I’m sloshed. Actually, it was near the end of the game and I was curious what this button was all about. Turns out, you can annex uncivs on the cheap. But I think this was changed in 1.2. PrawnStar is so screwed.

2lt6cr8.jpg

A little more time went around and a few countries did some things but it was kind of like old people; they really don’t matter. Pull the plug already, you’re costing me by the minute.

1929 came around and the first real revolution in the world arrived... in Serbia. They’re totally communists so maybe Rocky IV can still be made? Maybe?

j6iplw.jpg

While the war continued, France annexed Nejd and... I gave MA to the Netherlands when Austria DoW’d CFKAP in June. This war wouldn’t conclude by the time I ended the AAR.

3 March 1930 Sweden lost another war, once again providing proof that Paradox overpowers Sweden. I guess you have to have been in the EU forums.

23vymw8.jpg

Two days later Georgia broke from the OE. It’s a great thing Paradox fixed how the AI handled rebels but I kinda miss them. And no matter what communitychannel says, clip art rules! *tear*

v6n1gz.jpg

19 December my war with Persia ended with their total and utter annexation. Oh, and I spoke to Allah this morning and he don’t like you. And I ended it there because I didn’t feel like sitting around for another five years doing absolutely nothing. Sisyphus I am not.

3354oci.jpg

This AAR certainly had some bounce to it. One moment it emulated my first Brandenburg III styled AAR (Japan) and the next it leaned towards the Algiers attempt at humor. For me, it came out alright and hey, it won an award (coincidentally marking the moment that I won every award AARland has to give in terms of genre.) So when I said there was something wrong with you guys, I want you to know that I truly meant it.

It lasted a few weeks longer than I expected and hamstrung my DB and Rome AARs but now that this has come to an end, I can concentrate on them. I don’t know when you should expect an update so have some liquor instead... just don’t light it or this could happen to you.

A link to the pic because my only other option, while signed in, is to blog about it...

It burns going down...:rofl: Lesson learned.

I’ll wait about a week and post my final shots, provide replies. I’ll then wait another week, provide more comments (if any) and then I’ll, as I often do, unsubscribe from the thread. So if you want to get at me after that, ask your wife, she knows my number.

Future plans? I haven’t stated any of my future plans in a while since I change them around so often but here’s what I’m hoping.

A possible American Revolution AAR using AGEOD’s Birth of America 2: Wars in America. Depending on real life, this may happen. It’s a very real possibility provided I’m through with the Rome AAR by the end of December. The Rome was planned to be short so its going to stay that way. I won’t make an announcement here if I decide to go through with the AGEOD AAR; you’ll either have to check my signature or check the AGEOD AAR section. The substance (game time period/war) used will also depend on time I have available. If there is a hiatus, it shouldn’t be any more than a few months. And aren’t I worth the wait?

2ls8gzl.jpg

Who rules?

15cc850.jpg

**** forumites and their ego.

As a final note, the first post of this AAR will be updated sometime next week after I post the final update.

A more final note, I’m been thinking of trying to actually mod stuff. My heavy historical knowledge generally falls into the US and Russia so if you ever see a lack of AARs in the mid to late seasons of the year, you’ll likely know what I’m working on. If you’re looking for a Revolutionary War fix while you wait for DW - or if you’re like me and won’t be playing the expansion - I encourage you to check out the mod I had a lot of influence in if you haven’t already taken a look at it. Currently only available for HttT 4.1b

A finaler note - and this is not at all a reason to keep this at the top with comments ;)  - I always wondered why I was more popular in EU3 than in CK or the Victorias. Granted there are more AARs in that subforum but I consider them to be inferior to what I did in CK and Victoria.

Now excuse me while I mourn Mötley Crüe.

2wlu6j9.jpg

And seriously, the Black Eyed Peas for the Super Bowl? I find it hard to believe that its that hard to find a decent band to perform in front of millions of people. Then again, I know I wouldn’t. I’m too talented.

Well done Belgium!

As for the game if it's just a matter of sitting through the boredom I'll probably manage - keeps me in shape for RL.

That last photo is too funny for words and on balance I don't see the Black Eyed Peas making the Superbowl - lack of depth in the squad.

I was holding off on this until I finished the first post but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. All I can say about that is to check back around the end of the month and maybe my little clips, quotes and pics will be there. For now it hasn’t changed since the first revision.

PrawnStar: I looked it up and apparently Vince was on a skating competition show. I googled it a few minutes ago and apparently he was the second or third person eliminated.

Enewald: That they do.

I thought I was going to have more to say about this AAR but its all out there.

In the previous post I mentioned a possible AGEOD AAR but that’s becoming dimmer by the day.

So here’s the 1930 World Map so I can finally trash my Belgium folder.

20aqadf.jpg

Congratulations on finishing this, especially since there wasn't much left for you to do between wars and the semicolon didn't help cause a world war...

We'll have to wait and see what 1.3 brings. I think I've managed to get decent performance back in 1.1, but I hope I don't have to keep fiddling with settings in 1.3.

I've finally started with The Link, I'm leaving DB till Christmas to have -hopefully- a few chapters to read together.
