YES! ¡Viva la República! Now put the tyrant's head on a pike and parade it through Madrid!
Protip: The Spanish republican movement of the 19th century was neither socialist nor communist. Minor red currents existed that wanted to overthrow the king, but the great majority of the republicans were classical liberals and democrats.
Speaking of which, it would be very unlikely for the ad hoc republican army to call itself the Red Guard and demand class war. In 1900, republicanism and Marxism were still quite separate. OTL, they only merged after the start of the Spanish Civil War and were somewhat at odds right up to the army rebellion of 18 July 1936.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOO!!!
I demand a sequel AAR with Franco and the Reactionaries!
Be honest though, did you just quit this excellent AAR early so you could start your Rhineland Commune one? or were the rebels just too much for you to bother with? Also thank you for at least trying with your pictures this time, I noticed you added a Carlist flag and a basque-esque one in that Japanese picture.

I hate it when all good games are ruined by hordes of rebels.
It was good as long at is lasted.
Remember to link to a new AAR here.

Bravo! Nice ending. So who's in charge? The socialists or liberals?
I forgot to post this at the end of the last update.
This is the state of Spain when I finished the AAR in 1902.
Thank you. For me the game at ceased to be fun hours before I eventually threw in the towel.
I hoped this would be a little bit suprising (thats why I tried not to tell people it was ending). I'm sure you'll enjoy the next AAR.
An epilogue would take far too much effort.. I guess you could make one of your own - with the power of imagination.
I do have a special love for the Civil War. Yes the next AAR will be about that mod. I have permission from the moderators, I've finished my mod and I just need to get a few things set in place and I'll be ready to go.
Indeed it was. Be sure to tune it for the next one.
Thank you for the compliment but as I said before the epilogue ain't happening.
I like having the ending a little open ended here. The government and Republican leadership is decidely liberal and middle class. However they came to power on the backs of a socialist masss movement. Who would win the resulting power struggle? Well I guess none of us will ever know.
The pic was from Russo-Japanese war. I edited it slightly to make it more realistic after seeing Tazhang's scathing comments in his own AAR.
In game I was no longer having fun after about 1880. Rebellion after rebellion coupled with horrificly slow play speads (it was taking me an hour per year by the end) made this a torture. I eventually decided to simply not fight back and allowed the A-L rebels to take Madrid and win.
Thanks!
This is a very different Spain to the RL country. This Spain is heavily industrialised and at the centre of progressive movements. I think the idea of Red Guards and the heavily socialists tinge of my Republican movement just helps to bring the very leftist working classes of my Spanish industrial powerhouse on side.
Your comments did indeed make me decide to spend a few second editing. I cropped out a Japanese flag and some Japanese writing and changed one flag from a blue cross to a red one. Now who has low production standards?
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Yes. Rebels suck.
I will make sure to link the new AAR. Expect it to be started by the end of the week.
A mixture. Liberals in government trying to lead a strongly socialist movement. Similar to the Provisional Government in Russia after the February Revolution.

Hello there. Long time reader here. I've read your Austrian and D'Albion AARs as well, but this is my first time commenting. I'm sad to see that you had to end it early, but it was at least a good ending. I really liked this AAR and felt it struck a much better balance between political dissertations and real action than your Austrian AAR, where I found myself skipping large parts detailing the domestic political situation.
Excellent work, thank you very much. I look forward to your next.

Hm, good point. Even in real life, Spain's working class has always been very left-wing. I must say that it's quite ironic that a mostly proletarian revolution would end up installing a bourgeois dictatorship!
Do you mind if I ask about your strategy? I could never get Spain that strong, especially in industry. There simply aren't enough workers.
And how do you have only one technology? Is that a bug?

What a great read, Tommy4ever! Although I am quite interested in finding out what happens to Spain after the Republican revolution, I understand that you quit when it wasn't fun playing anymore.
Just curious though (since your AAR inspired me to have a go at a Carlist game), did you try to stem the revolutionaries with massive social reforms? Is that even a viable strategy if you want to keep your reactionary dictatorship until the end of the game?

Well, that was a great AAR with a fitting ending.
Carlos got what he deserved for stabbing Oldenburg in the back!
This jewel among nations that could have been the center of a never-ending golden age for European civilization was instead swallowed by the Prussian Moloch.
When the red hordes have laid waste to the great cities of Europe and the imperial Chinese air fortresses are circling overhead, people will curse the name of Carlos the Vile and they will beat their chests and cry bitter tears and pray for Oldenburg to return, but it will be too late!!!
Ooh, look something is happening in the Rheinland...

Oooh man - how did I ever miss this AAR? It's incredible, and has everything I love in it. I've just started (er, just as it's ended, it seems), but believe me - starting with an epic case of the gout is always a good sign. The writing and characterization looks excellent already - so please accept this belated thumbs up.
