PDM stands for Pop Demand Mod. It pretty much balances the entire game, from what I heard, and makes it alot more realistic and adds tons of new nations and I think makes a bit more realistic borders as well. They have the full info over at their thread. And it is appealing, because of how balanced it makes the game, as well as a nicer looking map.
It also does massive overhauls of the economy, migration mechanics, military units... it's a very thorough and detailed mod. I played it for a long time, but my computer's older so I recently switched to a lighter mod for performance reasons. I do highly recommend it to everyone though.

I first played this game as UPCA (or USCA as the game incorrectly calls it) and ended up as America's wipping boy. So I restarted and managed to do okay-ish, my crowning achievment being forcing the USA into a stalemate in one of their wars of aggression against Mexico.

I also have Korea as my personal plane factory. Building the Panama canal by myself after snapping the land of columbia was a pain of insulting Britain and America and fighting wars to stay out of their spheres. I'm the world's 4th great power (after the obvious GBR, USA and France, ahead of Austria-Hungary, Russia and somehow Venezula and Chille) with prestige 333, industry 7202 and military 3512 but I'm way behind the actually powerful three. I have a conservative government but a mostly socialist population.

I kinda feel bad about this but don't worry, I outlawed slavery first (before the USA even). My CSA isn't that exciting but I do have Cuba since I made it a Slave state after stealing it off Spain before the civil war. I'm just about to get the cores of mine that didn't rebel properly by invading the USA with 288000 african Hussars.

My main game that I started before the confederates was actually Bavaria, which led to a state I like to call "anti-germany".

I accidentally annexed Austria when I enacted the South German Federation after waiting for them to start losing a war against Prussia, decraring an assert hegemony war and forcing them to release bohemia-moravia . I released Hungary as a puppet when I saw my 90% literacy drop to a mere 70%. Then some pangerman nationalists offered me the crown from the gutter and I accepted, became a constitutional monarchy and grabbed my cores off France. I managed to occupy the whole of Great Britain and make them release Ireland since for some reason Hannover was still a puppet of theirs. Since then I've been whittling away bits of Prussia and trying to get Russia to release Poland. My plan after that it is to tear apart the ottoman empire and liberate the Balkans.

Poor Prussia is no longer a great power and has had 6 regime changes in the past few years and its african colonies are in permanent communist rebellion.

Are you positive you outlawed slavery before taking Africa? :p
Either way nice achievement with the UPCA and CSA. Did you become a US with a different name, or left the US alone?
I'm confused by what has happened in Europe with Germany

I left the USA alone. It still has some of my cores though. Which are still slave states, so I'm going to have to 'liberate' them with my horse riding askari legions.

That's columbia that's taken a yellow/cream bite out of Mexico.

More depth on the growth of anti-germany

I stole Sigmaren of Prussia while I was still a secondary power in Austria's SOI, so basically let him do it for me.
agerpart1.png

Then I backstabbed Austria and attacked at the same time as Prussia.
agerpart2.png

Some revolutionaries threw a crown at me while I was at war with France for Alsass-Loraine
agerpart3.png

Prussia had a stronger army than me and declared war to reconquor Sigmaren, so I used the opportunity of military access to their country to annex the little states in their borders and then gave them Wurtemburg without a fight so I could retake it later when my military was ready.
agerpart4.png

France fell to the reactionaries and turned into an absolute monarchy, so I snapped up the rhineland off them while they were weak.
agerpart5.png

I beat up Prussia some more but France hit me when I was weak and snapped Elsass-lotheringen off me.

Could someone tell me how to post an image here on the board? I'm sure it is not cut/copy/paste ... or is it that simple?
Thanks!

I assume you know the F11 keys and whatnot to get the screenshot and where to find them. Once that's done, I use photobucket, upload the photo. Get the IMG link code and paste it in your post. Preview it to make sure it's like you want, then post away.

I'm not using Steam .... just regular Microsoft Explorer. I can get the image ... but where is the upload image icon? My old eyes are really starting to fail me .... that, you I have to wait to get grandchildren to help me with technology. <sigh>

It's easier to upload the image to photobucket, then link it here. The space on the Pox forums is pretty small and you'd feel it up quick.

Imageshack doesn't require an account and the images last a lot longer (for the benefit of people viewing your post in a year or two's time).

Okay, thanks .... I'll give it a shot. Basically, what I need to do then is upload the iamge to another site, and then link it here? I'll check out this imageshack then. I like the sound of no account required.

How you make those HM Governments? If I am Absolute Monarchy. And sometimes when I allow the Socialist in the governments and they stay there forever like for 50 years and nothing happens I don't get a Proletarian Dictatorship!

Your form of Government can only change through political reforms (which slowly changes you to a democracy, starting with a HM Government) and revolutions (which can establish the different types of Dictatorships, depending on what type of revolution).

Note that Jacobin revolutions will make your country more democratic, rather than establishing a dictatorship.

1.) Proletarian Dictatorship is for communists, not socialists.

2.) You need either A.) a successful communist revolt or B.) enough communists in the UH to roll voting rights to No Voting.

Here's something not particularly impressive, but hey, let's get the thread moving again:

1882 Westernization straight to 7th place, and I thought I would be able to become Babylon immediately but apparently you need advanced metallurgy and the historical theory, which I wasn't ready for. By the time I had those, I'd dropped off the GP list and I had a ten-year fight with the Swedes for GP status. I didn't expand too much outside my own borders, but I did take Abu Dhabi.

I'm just glad I managed it.

Wow, I considered making an Iraq-Babylon AAR once, but I decided I was not skilled enough to make Iraq a great power. :p Still impressive though, how did you beat back Persia if/when they went for your territories?

If you use irregulars and terrain Persia's not too bad. Since irregulars cost only wool you can field a few in the beginning. Though when I did Iraq>Babylon I ended up losing cores on territory I already had Iraq cores on... Was that fixed since you did it?

I remember spending most of the game terrified of the Russians, they ended up eating Persia after I took a state in a defensive war (they tend to declare war early on, Iraq and Iran just aren't very neighbourly).

As for making them a GP, it can be as simple as researching the correct prestige techs at the correct time. I find with any country it can really help and be motivating to simply look at who you have to beat to make GP and calculate how many points you need and where you can get them (prestige, military, industry)
