I'm nearly done with another Hedjaz game, I'm in 1933 with Containment wars vs France and China (I accidentally went over my Infamy limit and been in near constant war since, to the point that I stopped caring about my infamy), I did do better than my last game, so I guess that was a plus. I'll talk about it more when I've finished and got some maps up.

I'd really like to try a Spain game actually, mostly because I think they can do better than just take Portugal. Maybe even an East Asian nation and see how quick I get slaughtered. Any other suggestions? I tend to go for non-Secondary/Great Powers, regardless of whether they are civilised or not.

Here is my game as Transvaal:

I started early on by annexing Orange and then the Zulu shortly after. When my infamy got low enough I took half of Madagascar. I beelined for the colonization techs when they became available and started colonizing in 1870. For some reason no one else started until 1885, which gave me extra time. I first colonized all the land around Portugal's and Oman's colonies (the later of whom I annexed for them), and then the Congo popped up under Austria Hungary, which I used to my advantage. I "liberated" the Congo from AH's control, and then shortly after "liberated" the Congo from their rulers. Having only one NI, I spent the entire last half of the game colonizing parts of Africa, and I still ran out of time and could not get the Lindi region under my control. I did not take Portugal's colonies until around 1926 because they were always allied with one GP or another, whom I could not take on alone. I did take on France however shortly after their revolution because they were weak and I wanted a few of their bordering states. The only non-contiguous land I conquered was Oman, the Suez canal and Madagascar.

I became a democracy early on and was able to pass all of both types of reforms. I had a pretty decent tech rate and was a strong military power in the late game. I was a Great Power for most of the game, holding 6th-8th place mostly by prestige and later by military score, however the rest of the world surpassed me industrially and I lost my GP status in the 1920's. Funnily enough Great Britain soon followed after me and lost their status right near the end of the game. It was a good game overall.

Game as Hedjaz:

A bit earlier in this topic I posted up my first full game as Hedjaz. This is my second. In my first game, I included Bedouin as a secondary culture, but left it out this time. Honestly, I don't even know if anything changed, although that might have been deflated by taking Bedouin pops later and doing better generally. I did still do the annex trick of declaring war on the UK and then letting me go, although now I know I can make it to a Great Power I might try it without next time I do Hedjaz.

What went well:

In general, I improved more in pretty much every area, I started building more factories quicker so I got 19th place overall, I invaded better earlier to take my primary culture pops instead of useless Bedouin ones, and this sped up a lot of things including industry and research. Last game I had about 650k in my primary culture, this game I had 2.5m just from invading more intelligently, I actually had 2 national focus points! I managed to get tanks and aircraft in nearly as early as possible, as opposed to the last 5 years in my last game; which helped with my inevitable wars led mostly by myself going over the infamy limit accidentally.

What didn't go well:

I got stuck with a Liberal Government eventually, with LZ, when I didn't even need to. I should have switched back to Conservative as I was HM Government, just to kickstart my industry more, and hence I still got left behind although I did do better this time. I still have overflowing diplomatic points that I don't use, I don't use them because I'm too hooked up thinking about everything else and as Hedjaz, you don't really need to keep that many people happy early game and by late game you can just force your hand instead. Probably because Hedjaz just sucks in general, its really hard to get troops early on, simply due to lack of population to pick them from. I could have probably done more, faster if I simply had more troops.

Going over my infamy limit, mainly down to events and then accidentally starting a war before I realised doomed my late game to near constant war with the other great powers, its debatable whether this was actually a bad thing, because I took land from nearly all of them in the wars that happened since. Moving too quickly in some areas with liberal reforms also cut me off from getting everything, as socialists started to come about and split the liberals. In future, I need to select my liberal reforms better and then deal with the social reforms once I'm happy I got everything I want.

Here is how I did:

This time I decided to bring some info screens as well:

Other general interesting things that happened:

Europe at one point looked quite clean, UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, little what was left of Denmark and Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria-Hungary and that was about it. Italy fell apart into three pieces (and later recovered somewhat), and then so did Belgium, and at the end a strong Austria-Hungary started losing ground to Russia and Germany.

In Asia, China civilised and dominated in the east, pretty much all the countries next to it was in its sphere by the end of the game. Netherlands managed to secure all their islands. Hyderabad, which as far as I know remained a UK puppet the whole game, civilised. Ottoman Empire, despite managing to win land off them most of the time, were a pain in the ass and always seemed to field more troops than I did, even as it slowly got torn apart. France usually steals them from Russia at some point, and this happened here.

Africa got dominated by France, and even won several wars vs Britain. It feels like this happens every time but this one was quite bad. UK did take Oman + Abu Dubai, but I got Oman back. In addition, I managed to salvage some of US and Colombian held Egypt, although both of them along with Spain and the Ottoman Empire still held parts by the end of the game. Somehow Egypt survived from being annexed, in part from entering US sphere. Americas was relatively usual, odd wars between South American nations and land switching hands, the Empire of Mexico did well at first and was an early Great Power, but got thrashed by the US later on.

I think that's about all I can say that is half interesting.

Edit: Oh I totally forgot. I only hit Great Power status from building ships. When I noticed just how high military score went up from building just one, I spammed them. I think this is pretty gamey even for me, but I wouldn't have hit Great Power without it. Then again, I was still being outnumbered when facing other great powers.

Here's my latest game, peaceful campaign ( as in no wars/territory gain ) as Korea:

Unfortunately couldn't compete with Russia/USA in industry as they had 3-4 times more population + tons more provinces. Got 100k unemployed craftsmen in 1 province and factories don't manage to be built fast enough, others are almost full as well, but I get REALLY low score for factories for some reason. Anyway Germany had to go and piss me off in Dreadnought building war:

Well I'd still be GP easily even w/o dreadnought spam, but feels good to be first ! And no clue how I'm capable of supporting almost 300 dreadnoughts :D
And here's my factories screen:

Anyway I wanted to see what is Korea capable of with it's default borders. Please note it's 1931 so it's few years from end but yeah, I'm too sleepy to play more. :D Could've easily conquered China/Japan since they were quite clumsy this game, neither westernized, I did have 1 war with China just to test my army against them/Russians and it was a massacre.

One thing worth mentioning - I'm top producer of phones, cars, radios, airplanes, barrel, electric gear and other stuff not so important. What's funny is that I overproduced airplanes/barrels by twice the demand..Which is lowering my industry score quite a lot, should've made just 2 of each factories since didn't expect this to happen - seems no one wants to make Tanks or they didn't research the tech yet.. Since I'm the only country producing it in the world.

Wow, I had no idea Dreadnoughts gave so much military score, because I always stopped at Cruisers. Are they really worth more than ten military score per ship? I like to play non-expansionist nations as well, but I can never get to #1 in pure score without lots of conquest.

In my current game as Ireland my Mil score was always around 60 before Dreadnoughts. I've now got 178 by just building four.

They are worth 20 each, which in my opinion is way too much as in my last few games Germany always goes on rampage with building them and ends up first, so I have to do the same to beat them. :D

Here are some pictures from my most recent game as Panama. Currently the year is 1886.

I hold most of Central America and Colombia now, along with Brunei and some pacific islands. I became a democracy early on thanks to some lucky events and now I'm getting around 6000 immigrants a month. That, and having full healthcare means my population has increased from 35k to 2.26 million in 5 decades.

I would be firmly in the Great Powers list if only it was even remotely possible to compete in industry in 1.4

Is that Austria-Hungary on the east coast of Mexico? :p

And in my Somalia! I was in their sphere till I hit Great Power, and I didn't fancy a prolonged war just to get it. I would have had to do an invasion by sea of their mainland to rack up the warscore and I would have expected to lose.

That's Colombia in Southern Mexico as well btw, they had a nice little colonial empire of Southern Mexico and Central Egypt.

Spain is interesting, but their literacy is absurdly low (13%, compared to something like 35% in Two Sicilies and 55% in France) and that makes it tough to keep up in the colonial game. But you can easily get a leg up in North Africa and Borneo, and retake some Latin American states. The Phillipines are also a lot of fun to play as an independent country, since they start civilized, with lots of room to expand and good reforms.

I like to play as Canada (patriotically), which is great - high literacy, metric f*ckton of immigrants. Especially when I mod it to be a Democracy, which I feel more accurately represents our Government in terms of gameplay mechanics.
