    For the most part it looks as if it's a direct map from EU3. I can upload these later today once I've checked them over.

    That will leave a few seazones undefined, but I'll have a look at them later too. It also relies on the idea that same-named provinces map exactly. That might not be the case, but I suspect it's close enough to the truth to work in most - if not all - situations.

    I seem to be stuck on the second part of the instructions; how do I "edit" convert.bat without running it? It just seems to close instantly when I do try to run it.

    Just a minor heads-up here; I had a lot of non-GPs with spheres when I initially converted, but they disappeared after a couple of weeks. Very strange.

    That makes me feel a bit daft...I've been treating it as a spatial problem, and didn't think of using names to map them.

    Right-click and choose "Edit."

    Vassals, personal unions, and SOIed nations start sphered. We don't know who the GPs are going to end up being, so we do it for everyone. Non-GPs are not allowed spheres, so V2 takes them away automatically after a month or so (by which time we hope the GP status has stabilized). That mechanism seems to work pretty well, so it's probably not going to change unless we end up with a really reliable way of calculating GP status.

    Oh, okay, it's WAD. I agree your solution is an elegant one, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bug. Otherwise, it's running smoothly!

    Question: do nations not in the mappings file still automatically transfer to one with the same tag? I'm thinking of adding some V2 nations to EU3 as revolters (and vice-versa to improve transfers), and I'm wondering if I can save a little bit of work (and make it more portable) by simply matching country tags.

    For instance, if I put TEX into EU3, will the converter automatically recognize that as Texas in V2 without me having to add it to the mapping?

    Nations not in country_mappings.txt would be assigned a tag from the leftover unmapped V2 nations. No additional tag matching is done.

    If you alter your EU3 nations (or V2 nations) to make more nations map one-to-one, you should probably take a few seconds to add them to the top section of country_mappings.txt; it's a trivial alteration.

    can someone map Louisiana to Texas? I find it silly that it became Austria in my game just because there was an extra tag.

    Meatgrinder, which problems? Different people wait for different features to be available. It's very much playable at this point. I doubt there will ever be a "definitive" release; if nothing else, I'm sure Paradox will release an expansion for V2 that will necessitate updates.

    BootOnFace, I've made a bunch of country mapping improvements that will be in the next version, including allowing Louisiana to map to the USA or Texas if either tag is unused. You can add that to the rules yourself if you don't want to wait (Louisiana is near the end of country_mappings.txt; search for "eu3 = LOU", add "vic = TEX" to the same line, and reconvert your game).

    If there is still a need, I would be happy to volunteer to map province/sea zone IDs or a similarly rote task. I'd love to help improve this project. My modding experience with these games is limited to editing some text files, so the high-level stuff would be beyond me.

    Hey all, just finished a Morocco colonial game and I was looking to continue it in Vic2.. After the convert there were some strange anomalies... the most significant was Castille becoming Finland.. and Muscowy becoming Crimea (I was assuming they would have turned Russian)

    It's still needed, but I'd like to see how Dewirix' method of mapping by name works first. If he uploads the mappings he generated, or I generate a new set, I can also generate a list of remaining unmapped sea zones, which someone will need to go through and map manually.

    RUS is a cultural union. Only RUS maps to RUS; it can be formed later in V2 via Russian Pan-nationalist rebels if it was not formed in EU3 (so that's WAD). Next version you will have the option to merge all the Russian minors before conversion (there are 15 years for it to happen, after all). Castille is demonstrating a flaw in our country mapping; in the new mappings it gets mapped to HAM instead of FIN (28th choice instead of 37th choice...so, uh, marginally improved). What's really wrong is TRI takes SPA (as 15th choice), because none of the usual suspects are available. I'll poke around a bit and see if I can get it working better (IIRC Avindian had the same problem with TRI grabbing SPA; there are still a handful of tags missing from the mappings, even after I fixed a bunch last week).
