no, thats all transferred into the savegame. the 1836 start is identical to vanilla, the extra tags are there to allow countries that arn't there normally to get converted.

that the problem you think? as mentioned, this worked fine before AHD

Quite possibly. I've had crashes caused by countries.txt referencing countries that have no history file. The alternative is that there's just too much space being used by flags; you have half as many additional flags as PDM does, but use nearly twice as much space. Those will all get loaded into memory when the game starts, and while there's no hard-and-fast limit to the number of flags you can have, you're probably pushing it a bit - 20 meg of flag files will hurt a lot. Does the game load if you don't copy the flag files in?

Nope, even with flags removed they still crash. I strongly suspect it's related to history files, tbh.

I've tested this by attempting to add one additional country (I removed all new countries except connacht) and started the game. it didn't crash. I'm very sceptical that this would cause a crash.

this is an interesting point:

PDM was getting crashes on flags until we removed all the excess flags from the flags folder which we weren't using (ie. there were leftover flags belonging to countries which had since been removed from the country file). Not sure if this is your problem, but PDM did get it working with all the excess countries.

sounds plausable, if there are flags for countries that arn't there, or their arnt flags for countries that are there (Nas' earlier test). except for your connaught test, but that might have todo with the number of countries added?

There was more to it than that, tbh; I'm pretty sure that we could have left the excess ones in. I'm trying to remember what the hell it was I did to fix it for PDM.

Oh, that's very interesting... I wonder if there are flags in there that we are no longer using.

I discovered, for the strangest reason, that the game no longer wanted me to use "GEN" as a tag.

Huh, we also use the "GEN" tag. I'll fix that just in case.

Well, neither of those appear to have worked.

There were some excess flags, some misnamed flags, and I renamed "GEN". Still not working.

Yeah, I don't think it's anything to do with the flags. As I say, I'm pretty sure the extra nations in PDM could have been left in, as the problem was something else. I'm trying to remember what the hell I did; for starters, I had a war file that reference a country that didn't exist, and that caused a crash on flags. No idea if that's any help, but I'll keep thinking - I had to spend about six hours tracking bugs when I converted PDM over, and went through an hour or so of flags crashes.


One thing - your countries.txt doesn't have Taiping in it. AHD DOES have Taiping, and it owns territory in 1861. Adding it doesn't stop the flag crash, but is the type of thing that can cause them.

Ah, bugger, the tag changes will also need to be reflected in the localisations. I'll get on it!

EDIT: Done. I actually reverted some tag changes, because they mixed up England and Great Britain. Now I have a very strange problem: Breat Britain has the English Monarchy flag, the three lions, even though I triple checked that the flags and tags were correct... it's just confusing me.
