Yea, in vanilla all Africans could choose a new job on the day of getting colonized. And they all picked the army. Then you had 5000 brigades of troops from your colonies.
Which part is strange? France attempted to colonise New Zealand in RL, but backed down rather than fight it out. 1836 start is before that happened.
The Uk and French are currently at war over this....

I find it strange that you have over 99 unread newspapers! They go through the trouble of getting it all the way to Jan Mayan...
But the power system is pretty broken, I made it to 7 as Jan Mayan.
