Ok, I think I found the appropriate stuff...turns out I was using the driver from back in November (when I first got the system). Hopefully this works, though while I'm crossing my fingers I'm also trying to come up with a plan B that doesn't involve things like water-cooling and the like.
I'm guessing you have a Thinkpad T500. Laptops are very prone to overheating with EU3-engine games. If the driver update doesn't help you need to monitor you temperatures; either the generic SpeedFan or the Thinkpad-specfic TPFanControl.
 
I do hate to beg (and I will readily confess to begging), but my problem is odd enough that I want to make sure it's not going to crop back up in the main game before I fire that up. The last thing I want is to get a game crash again and lose my computer for the evening.

Overheating seems very likely. You can use a program to find out what the temperature is, or just open the side and clear out dust. Then let the side be off and try again.

There is no other way to be sure than to test things I'm afraid.

demo crash ==> release crash?

I'm one of those for whom the demo doesn't work (see my earlier post) - is there anyone out there who
a) couldn't get the demo to work, but for whom
b) the purchased version DOES work?

I'd like to buy it, but not if it'll just crash like the demo does.

Release version is unlikely to run if the demo doesn't. The demo should work though. Your graphics is on the low end (GMA 4500) but should at least load the game. You may be having an issue because you seem to be using HDMI output which I think some people have had problems with in previous games. Can you post the demo's logs\system.log file?

CTD using a fleet

I attempted to send a fleet to the Pacific around Cape Horn and as the ships began to enter the Pacific there was a CTD. I've tested it twice more and both times the demo crashes at the same point. I was able to take Washington before the British could and made a port there and wanted to station some ships there to explore the Pacific.

Thanks for your help! I got the latest driver (from Dell, not Intel), and now I am at least into the tutorial! :D
 
Getting a CTD twice now while playing the tutorial (chapter2: after loading the 3e division and trying the Middelburg landing)

I don't see any error logs....?

The problem is that you unload from a moving ship if you follow the exact description in the tutorial. If you don't move the ship to the Coast of Holland but only to the Dogger Bank, then it works.

I solved my fps problem with updating the audio driver.

First problem remaining is the remarkably deviation of the mouse pointer and the actual pointing.

Also the map doesnt scroll southwards when I am pointing at the very bottom of the screen. Scrolling the map with arrow keys lasts way too long.
 
I did a brief search of the thread and didn't find anything related. I'm playing the demo, and when the UK declares war on someone the game suddenly goes from smooth as silk on the highest setting down to chopping and about 10 frames a second on the lowest speed.

Is it path-finding causing this, or are there units on the world moving and canceling their orders over and over or what? :(
 
I'm having the black screen switching problem as well. Also as mentioned the sounds stop playing after a while.
Running win 7 64, ATI 4870, latest drivers, it's not in program files

I have the same problem. I have a ATI X600 radeon.

I have no idea to solve it
 
Had a CTD when first playing the demo. It occured when trying for a SP game after completing the tutorials.
Restarted V2 and directly started a game - worked smoothly.

Kind of a memory leak in the demo/game?
 
Hi everyone!

I'm trying to play the tutorial but I get "v2demo has stopped responding" or the game freezes without any error message about every 15 minutes or so. The game is not playable for me that way. When I take a look at the system.log it strikes me that it says "System memory: 0MB" (I have 8GB RAM) and that It says "CPU type: x86" instead of 64bit.

HoI3 Semper Fi runs stable on my system. Any ideas?
