Ok I'm thinking about buying this game, i can see it's not one of Paradox most popular game, but I'm interested.
What's the game like?
Are there any bugs?
Is it worth buying?
Thanks
Two years ago I hoped the game would finally be fun to play, but AGEOD forums posts tell different.(e.g. camels in the Vosges mountains during 1915) That is sad, perhaps such a game requires too many human resources for a limited customer base that a small studio can't cover
I actually reported this on the AGEOD forum but you should know that there is still work being done on WW1G and one of the fixes includes correcting weird AI behaviour like this (and also supposedly preventing German African troops from showing up on the Continent).
WW1G has a number of well documented issues but it also has great depth, attention to details and built-in replayability due to its event engine and the way it handles war plans. Look through the game's forum and you should see that not all is doom, gloom and defects.

It is when you consider the atrocious state it was in at release. Don't get me wrong, Calvinius has worked like a trooper on the patches to get it anywhere near playable, and I cannot fault him for that, but I have two resentments:
1) I wanted to help on the AGEOD forum for the game, to try and proofread some of the atrocious English spellings on the map (Edimburg rather than Edinburgh being one that sticks in my mind) as well as in the scenario description for the Grand Campaign "English Expeditionary Force (BEF)" where it is obviously 'British Expeditionary Force (BEF)' hence the initials, and was told I should go into the game files make the changes myself and submit them. Quite frankly, no, it isn't my job to alter the files myself, especially as my files I submit may not tally with any changes the developer may have already changed himself.
2) I have to pay for the 'Gold' edition? Sorry, no, will not do that either. The Gold Edition isn't an expansion pack, it's what the game should have been at release. I don't see why I should fork out extra two years down the line for what the game should have been at release. The reason it was rushed out early was for a PR stunt to release it on Armistice Day, well bully for you. I paid my money and I waited patiently (even willing to help) and I am to be forced to pay extra for what amounts to little more than a rehaul patch to make the game playable.
It's a great disappointment as the game has some much potential. I've reinstalled it and patched it to the pre-Gold 1.07I patch and enjoying it (despite freezes and frustrating ignorance of what I am doing - neither of which is the games fault particularily; the freezes due to my computer and my ignorance due to my own lack of understanding of the game).
But those two resentments I have are valid (in my eyes) and tarnish what could have been a strong strategy game covering the WW1 period.

"Why not? The primary causes for union are, thankfully, long gone. So why are we hanging on to it? For the sake of sentimentality? An uncertain economic argument that's easily dismissed? Nah. Go forth, Scots. All power to your elbow. You'll take the oil and we'll take the nukes, and we'll be in Brussels afore ye. And so on." - Rabid Bogling
Just downloaded the game a couple of days ago. Quite enjoying it so far. This will take a while to learn it all.. I like that.
I purchased the game about a week ago and I love it!
Make sure to apply the newest patch (1.08O, IIRC)![]()
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." .

Sokkur, there is a new patch out! Also, I suggest you visit the forum at www.ageod.com, it is much less hidden than this one.![]()
