@ Viden: Well, if Czechoslovakia is artificial, you can also say that for most of other states in this story. Sudetenland may be predominantly German after all those years, but territory of Alsace-Lorraine was under German control from 1871 and they are probably fully Germanophonic areas now. Should France give it to Federal Republic of Germany because of this? It's all an issue of national prestige of victors and punishment for defeated. Moreover, it's stupid to argue about speculations about population, demography and ethnic structure. Such spresumptions can be used to decide about some issues, but they are not worth of arguing. This is fantasy scenario of which the main goal is fun and entertaiment. It's not meant to be simulation of real life, altough I'm trying my best to keep it the boundaries of relative realism.

@ Lurken: Well, many states have national minorities inside their borders, and this doesen't affect their names. Should I rename Czechoslovakia to Bohemia-Moravia-Slovakia-Sudetenland?

@ Hochseeflotte: Weren't Czechoslovak revolters freedom fighters? Also, President of USA is Stanley McChrystal and President of CSA is Thorn Carville. If I remember right, they both have presidental terms until 2016.

@ atty: The Tsar probably gave away all those Russian populated territories with a good reason. Moscow can influence Finnish policy via Russians in Finland this way. Finns won't assimilate Russians and Russians won't Russificate Finns. Both Finnish and Russians are probably official languages, so there's no discrimination. Romanov-na-Murmane is surely important port, but Russians can use it anyway because it's under friendly Finnish control. As for Kosovo, Serbia is in French domain and French & her closest allies wouldn't want Kosovo under control of pro-Russian Albania. Russians and other UNA members are surely not enemies, but there's a strong rivalry for client states going on now.

@ SovietAmerika & atty: As for Austria-Illyria, minor-Yugoslav plan was always more popular among the Southern Slavic nations that were traditionally under Habsburg rule than greater-Yugoslav plan. Minor Yugoslavia (Illyria) was often proposed to Vienna by Slovenes and Croats IOTL Austria-Hungary. Illyria was meant to be third federal entity (so the empire would then be Austria-Hungary-Illyria). However, IRL Austria-Hungary collapsed and everyone declared independence. Habsburg South Slavic nations in short-lived State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs joined with other South Slavic nations (in Serbia and Montenegro) into Kingdom of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, later renamed into Kingdom of Yugoslavia. South Slavic nations joined into single state after WW1 because Italy and German Austria would anex the State of SCS that didn't enjoy international recognition and support. Austria-Illyria is better choice than forming potentially unstable single South Slavic state. Also, A-I isn't fully Austro-German dominated state, it's federation like Austria-Hungary was. But as I said before, my job here isn't to argue about ethnic relations, my aim is to make relatively plausible and interesting post-war setup.

Thanks for comments, everyone!

War of the Titans - 20

War in Europe was over, but in Africa, the war was over long before the weapons were put down. All African states and foreign nations presented in Africa already planned the future of this continent. French were making plans of creating French Union that would be effective connection between metropolitan France (mainland France, French North Africa), and French protectorates in Africa and French overseas territories. Kingdom of Egypt, spanning from Tripoli to Dar es Salaam. Egyptian king was negotiating with local leaders about status of diffrent regions that could receive more autonomy, like creating autonomous principalities in Ethiopia and Kenya that would be ruled by local nobles, but would remain integral parts of Egypt. Despite the end of large conflicts, Africa was still not enjoying stable peace. Syndicalist rebels were raging from Cape Town to Freetown, drawing their strength from legacy of Union of Africa: Ideology, weapons, experience and art of war.
afr.jpg

Columns of Egyptian troops were returning from Anatolia via Middle East towards Egyptian possessions in East Africa. Presence of Syndicalist rebels was heavy in most parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, troubling French, Egyptian, Portugese, Kinshasan and even South African authorities.

Persia had to give away Tabriz to Russians and her Western border territories to Iraq. It was high price for peace, but Persia at least managed to stay independent, without falling into any sphere of influence.

In South Asia, Princenly Federation and remaints of Qing Empire in India couldn't be defeated despite the heavy pressure from all sides. Peace treaty abolished Qing Empire and sealed Princenly achievements in war (main peace condition for Princenly India was to stop hosting Qing authorities on her territory), limiting UNA allied India to broader Punjab region. Afghanistan was liberated from Qing forces by Indian troops during the war. Russians faced many troubles in unstable country before the war and weren't interested to return due to issues in the other parts of the world. India was allowed to anex territory of Afghanistan.

Even after the peace treaty, two rival Indian states continued to dwell in the Indian subcontinent: UNA-allied Republic of India and United Principalities of India.

In Southeast Asia, AlgOstAsien corporate conglomerate resisted in same stubborn way as Princenly India did. Thailand had to surrender to mercenary hordes and became another cash cow protectorate of corporate suits in Singapore. Peace treaty recognized AlgOstAsien soveregity over Thailand, but company-state had to give North Borneo to Indonesia. In Burma, Princenly troops established independent State of Burma and gave power to loyal military junta.

In East Asia, Fengtien Republic dominated Chinese mainland. With boosted self-confidence due to territorial expansion of Fengtien Republic, Prime Minister Kim Jong Il soon demanded Emperor Akihito to resign from position of President of Fengtien Republic. Facing massive popular dissatisfaction in China, Japanese emperor accepted those demands. Kim Jong Il soon won the presidency, gaining support of Chinese people by his resistance against Japanese influence and promises of economic prosperity.

In South America, armies of La Plata reached Caribbean Sea via Guyana. Brazilians and UNA expeditionary troops faced enemy that was equal or even stronger in experience, equipment and tactics. German soldiers from German expeditionary corps in South America fought side by side with Platinean troops against UNA. After capitulation of Germany, those soldiers refused to give up the fight. They simply became part of regular army of La Plata. Peace treaty with La Plata returned Brazil into boundaries from 1930s, enriching La Plata with new territories. With peace treaty in South America, alliance of Mitteleuropa was finally terminated.

UNA expeditionary troops, most of them were from United States, started to leave Brazil after peace with La Plata was signed.

After the long years of global conflict, peace was finally restored. Celebrations and military parades were held in cities of victorious countries, but also commemorations for the fallen were taking place all around the world. The war was over. It was time to heal the wounds and to rebuild what was destroyed.
Frenchbugler.jpg

Those are some interesting settlements. Kim Jong Il ruling China, the Indian subcontinent turning into something like it is today, etc. Its unfortunate that you could not save Thailand and that Brazil was so badly mauled by the Platineans.

Still, Mitteleuropa is finished and the war is finally over. Long live France and the UNA!

Hooray, Egypt is gigantic! I hope the Africans don't get mad....

I strangely find this postwar world entertaining. Kim Jong-Il ruling all of China? France still keeping much of Africa? Your India being basically the Muslim areas with as Hindu Princely India? Bravo, my good sir.

I get a feeling this ain't over just yet.:p

For ONCE? What do you mean by "for once"...?:p

*grumbles*

To secure peace is to prepare for war

Year 2015 was the year of important events and great changes. It was the first year of peace, but also the year of fierce political fights between the members of UNA, and also political conflicts inside many states. The seed of conflict inside UNA was triggered by collapse of AlgOstAsien GmbH. Corporate conglomerate itself wasn't able to survive. Mitteleuropean shares and investments were gone with Mitteleuropa, and the war that was feeding millions of mouths in Southeast Asia via massive arms production and paid military service ended. Regime in Singapore was barely controling the streets of the city. Situation was becoming unbearable and board of directors resigned and fleed the country.

However, not everyone fell into panic. General Malcom Granger, former chief of air force in American Union State took the oportunity and reached Burma with brigade of loyal mercenaries. He managed to persuade Burmese military junta with cunning plan. Large Burmese forces entered chaotic AlgOstAsien territory and soon restored order. After several weeks of negotiations about the future of Indochina, plan for creation of Empire of Indochina was accepted. Lands of former AlgOstAsien (including Siam) merged with Burma into united empire under rule of Vietnamese noble house. General Granger became director of massive Imperial Security and Intelligence Agency (ISIA) which was mix of intelligence, counter-intelligence and internal security bodies. This is where the troubles began. Malcom Granger established diplomatic connections with United States and offered cooperation to President McChrystal. Indochina would be open for US influence, especially for economic cooperation. Due to US pressure, General Granger was removed from UNA Interpol list of wanted war criminals.

EIC.jpg

Confederate President Carville was furious. And so were the French, Canadians and Arab states. Granger was responsible for massive aerial bombardments that were thrown against Southern Commonwealth during war with American Union State. He lost his air force with the lost war in North America, but his evil deeds continued in service of corporate conglomerate in Southeast Asia. During the conflict between UNA and Mitteleuropa, Granger's mercenary air fleet destroyed most of infrastructure in Iceland to prevent Canadians from using it. He was even more active in Middle East, where his planes blew up the pipeline that was connecting Iraq and Saudi Arabia with Phoenicia, Egypt and French Republic.

Opinion of UNA members was splited. United States eventually gained Russian support, as Russia wanted to have her share in Indochina too. China, Japan and Japanese client states were enraged that United States and Russia wanted to cooperate with heir of corporate state that terrorized Southeast Asia so long. Soon, the worse happened. United States announced their withdrawal from UNA military structures. Situation developed faster than it was expected and United States soon completely cut their ties with UNA. Latin American countries, close to United States, followed the example. Mexico which eventually alienated from Confederacy due to rising Mexican demands of return of Mexican territory, taken by Confederates. Mexican demands always enjoyed silent US support. Colombian President Caballero was always close to United States and Gran Colombia followed Mexican example. Surprisingly, La Plata also smelled the oportunity to push Brazil into isolation and approached United States. Those states united into economic bloc called American Free Trade Area (AFTA). To make situation even worse, President McChrystal announced that United States have successfully developed nuclear weapons.

us2.jpg

Russia which silently observed situation eventually made her move. Russian Empire and its satellites soon withdrew from UNA too. Problems with Russia were already predictable in the past, mostly due to icy relations between pro-Russian German Union and pro-French Federal Republic of Germany. Russians were also afraid of rising Chinese influence in Far East. Russian and American diplomats started to lure United Principalities of India into their sphere of influence, being attracted by both massive Indian market and Indian economic growth.

China was indeed a worthy rival. Nobody expected that Chinese economic growth will be so massive. But reconstruction of devastated country, legacy of industrialized Qing regions, rich coastal cities, foreign investments and domestic spending had their effect. President Kim Jong Il ruled China in a way that he ruled Manchuria. ''Life is never ending party'' remained his personal and business motto. Life can really be a party and Kim Jong Il knew that. But life is a party that must come to end. Death of Kim Jong Il in 2015 shocked entire China and put country to massive mourning. Unhealthy hedonistic way of life was too much for the years of Tiger of Fengtien. He was a son of Korean officer in service of Fengtien President Zhang Zuolin. Kim Il Sung quickly climbed over the Fengtien hierarchy and Kim Jong Il had good position in Manchurian society granted with his birth. Kim Jong Il was also successful career maker as his father was.

When the news about the death of remarkable leader were published, entire China stood still. Traffic stopped, people halted their steps. Big advertisment plasma screens on city buildings started to broadcast state news channel. Breaking news brought the image of sad reporter that gave a message to Chinese people: President has died in elite hospital in Harbin after suffering serie of heart attacks. People were shocked, many started to cry. But from somewhere the well-known yell, invented by President who passed away, started to cut the silence. ''Fengtien China is Best China!'' People on the streets of Harbin started to shout. Cameras took their shouting to entire China. Chinese cities were quickly packed with people. And everybody were shouting: ''Fengtien China is Best China!''. The death of the ''Tiger of Fengtien'' united UNA for the last time. His funeral was visited by most of world leaders.

Kim Jong Il was succeded by his only descedant, his daughter Kim Il Leang. She entered presidental elections and won with great majority. ''Tigress of Fengtien'' promised to continue the path of her father. Altough she lead the China in more authoritarian way (she always believed that great country must be ruled by strong hand), appointing her friends and relatives to most important offices (Deng ''Crawling Dragon'', good friend of her father became Prime Minister), legacy of Kim Jong Il wasn't forgotten. Fengtien Republic was formally renamed into Republic of China and flag was changed too, but all this steps that served strenghtening universal Chinese identity didn't change the internal philosophy of regime. As it was Manchuria before, China became famous as great turist destination. Night clubs, bars, luxury hotels, casinos, discos...All for enjoyment of citizens and foreigneirs.

In Europe, internal political struggles paralyzed France again. Time of peace caused goverment of national unity to collapse. Action Francaise was first to leave unitarian pro-regime union-party. After noticing the strength of Action Francaise (mainland France with long royalist tradition was good base for royalist movement), Bonapartists decided to leave the Marechal's shadow and try to attract people from both republican and royalist base with their Bonapartist mix: Monarchy based on republican values, ideal republican empire. They gained strong base of support among the liberal population which was fed up with authoritarian republicanism of various Marechals, and also among the conservatives who didn't like Legitimist Bourbon claimant (ironically, there were many Orleanists among Bonapartist supporters, a consquence of old rivalry among royalists).

However, old Marechal and his circle didn't want to give up the fight too quickly. Researching succession laws, republicans discovered that current Legitimist claimant has old legal claims on Spanish throne. They contacted Spanish military regime (regency was still in place) and asked Spanish generals if they are willing to accept Legitimist claimant as Spanish king. With Juan Carlos banned from succession fight due to cooperation with Mitteleuropa and with Carlist claimant banned from participation due to collaboration with radical Basque separatists, regency council accepted new king with great majority. Spanish people were demanding that king is finally chosen and generals were glad to cool down the people with their choice. Legitimist claimant was literally forced to accept the Spanish offer (rejecting it would destroy his reputation in royalist circles) and Action Francaise lost another claimant. Without any important royalist claimant left, Action Francaise gave up the fight and slowly ceded to exist. With smooth move, republicans destroyed their strogest rivals. It was time to teach Bonapartists a lesson too.

eu4.jpg

Bonapartists (party was named Movement for 3rd Empire) insisted with their demands for plebiscite. Royalists and Bonapartists were unable to join in their demands before due to rivalry and didn't have enough votes in parliament to successfully propose a plebiscite. Bonapartists didn't have enough votes even now, so they decided to use their influence in labour unions to trigger massive protests not only all over France, but also all over the French Union. Extraordinary circumstances would surely force Marechal to promise the plebiscite. General Renault (which was already seen as next Marechal and President of France) couldn't stand Louis Nicolas Bonaparte and decided to use all his power to neutralize him. He persuaded Marechal Dassault to side with trade unions. Goverment really granted all wishes of trade unions (which dramatically increased welfare system, but heavily damaged national budget, forcing goverment to cut the spending in other sectors like military and infrastructure improvements). Bonapartists lost their important allies and Louis Nicolas Bonaparte gave up the fight.

However, Marechal Dassault didn't want to destroy poor Bonaparte which did a lot for France in the past. When Walloons decided for statehood on plebiscite, Marechal persuaded Bonaparte to join the race for presidental office in Wallonia. Disappointed with France but excited with potential political career in Wallonia, Bonapartist claimant accepted the offer. Republic of Wallonia was proclaimed and Louis Nicolas Bonaparte became the 1st President of Walloon republic after winning the elections. This step allowed French republicans to remove rival Bonapartist claimant from French political life, while still rewarding him for his good deeds in service of French Republic.

wll.jpg

With proclamation of indepedent Republic of Wallonia, map of Western Europe was finally redrawn.

eu.jpg

After the political crisis and neutralization of two rival political blocs, French goverment was dominated by Marechal's republicans again. Royalists and Bonapartists were now history, but political opposition in France remained powerful. The largest opposition party in parliament were now Radicalists, traditional French moderate Left party.

France begand to slowly restore battered La Royale to her previous stance. Brand new strike group was named in honour of President under rule of which was French mainland liberated and French enemies defeated.

But very little would be done without the hard work and sacrafice of many other brave people. General Alexandre Noir, mountain warfare specialist, opened Mountain Warfare Academy in Grenoble.

General Le Muffen, famous air cavalry commander, became the governor-general of Baleares. He preserved command over brigade of air cavalry that was stationed in Baleares. Egyptian commander Mileena Amides was awarded with noble title of Lady by British Queen for her achievements in war. During the war, she met General Le Muffen with whom she was sharing the love for ancient history. She moved to Mallorca on invitation of General Le Muffen.

Countries that broke away from UNA connected with some other neutral nations and created new defensive alliance, named Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO). New cold war was born. Despite heavy rivalry that was created after schizm in UNA, possibility of new hot war was much lower than in the past. Both blocs guarded their spheres of influence with greatest care and teamed in economic, scientific and technological achievements. Arms race was wild, but arms industry was bringing a lot of jobs, preventing social unrest. Two alliances were often provoking each other with creating proxy conflicts, but they never dared to face each other directly. Fear of nuclear war was ironically the best guardian of peace. Syndicalism was also not dead yet. Underground Syndicalist Internationale was never resting. Organizing strikes, protests, or even violent resistance, both UNA and CSTO had to stand on guard against invisible and invincible enemy.

SP.jpg

UN.jpg

Despite strong global political polarization, some nations rather chosed neutrality. Neutral stance was offering great options to nations with good strategic position. Switzerland, Ireland and Panama were good examples of that. But not only the minor states with good strategic position chosed neutrality. Persia lost many oil-rich areas to Iraq. Reformist Shah's first minister Khatami introduced many political, social and economic reforms. New technologies allowed bigger extraction of oil from old sources and discovery of new reserves. Largest importers of Persian oil were UNA-allied Republic of India and CSTO-allied United Principalities of India. Oil was flowing towards Indian republic trough new system of pipelines, while black gold was delivered to aristocratic India by super-tankers.

PER.jpg

In Turkey, coup d'etat removed old military junta that wanted to ally with CSTO and brought new military regime to power. Negotiations with CSTO were terminated and Turkey chosed the path of neutrality, using straits of Bosphorus as important strategic card.

Only small part of Mitteleuropean leaders that were responsible for bloody conflict were brought to trial. There was no consent for creation of international court where the crimes of war would be processed. Charged of war crimes and similar felonies were processed on national courts of countries that demanded their trial. Leaders of Pretoria movement that brought many troubles to South Africa were sentenced on long prison sentences in South Africa. German Kaiser was forced into exile in Ireland. Duke of France was charged of treason and participation in collaborationist regime. He was sentenced to house arrest in his villa in Algiers.

clarkgable2.jpg

Duke of France on trial. Penalty was mild due to revealed evidence that Duke Philippe was deceived into treason and collaboration by German agents (Count of Lyon that persuaded Duke Philippe into collaboration with Germans misteriously disappeared). However, court didn't decide to free Duke Philippe of charges because he could refuse to perform treason, but he rather trusted his feelings and pride.

THE END

Very nice end to the AAR. I truly feel that we accomplished our mission. CTSO might have split off, but at least they're not willing to go to war with us.

And that new Chinese leader looks rather lovely. *whistles*

merci!

This was a great AAR, I'm impressed at how you effectively managed to conquer the world from a fairly awful starting position.

This world may not be perfect but at least it's largely peaceful- I doubt either faction really wants war enough to risk the massive casualties and damage it would cause.

Bravo sir! Congratulations on not only restoring the territorial integrity of France but of also creating a new world order. The CSTO may be strong, but the UNA is definitely more than capable of standing up to them.

I loved reading every update of this AAR. Your enemies were overwhelming but against all odds you destroyed them. Every update had me on the edge of my seat. Congratulations on achieving your final victory.

So what ever happened to General Mobius? :D

Congratulations Asalto, that was a truly Epic AAR, with a real and appropriate ending. A great ride, to say the least :D
