I just love those news-styled updates! Another great piece, Meadow. A mix of history book texts, propaganda pieces, news and diaries makes a wonderful effect.

By the way, I can't remember what is the status of Hungary and Habsburg Empire in general in this universe. Since it's mentioned that Hungary was Mitteleuropean football champion, does this mean that Hungary is independent state, or do autonomous/federated parts inside Habsburg Empire/Austria-Hungary have their own national sport teams, like it's the case with UK IRL?

Thanks, they're great fun to write, too!

The football situation is the latter. Hungary and Austria agreed to stay with dualism in 1937 and as such are both nominally separate states and governments with one Emperor and are obviously allies. They're also friends of Mitteleuropa but not actually in the military alliance - though the tensions on the continent make it obvious who their friends will be if war breaks out.

They (Hungary, Bohemia, Austria) already had separate teams before WW1, it wasn't regulated very thoroughly.

EDIT: actually after some superficial Wiki'ing (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Böhmisch-Mährischer_Fußballverband) is appears that the Austrian government pressured the FIFA before WW1 to not admit the separate teams, as that would undermine the empire in some way. However it's Kaiserreich so they might just as well have their separate teams since the 1927 Ausgleich.

Front page of Le Temps, 27 September 1940

Le Temps had been the paper of record for Frenchmen since before the Revolution and remained so after it. This extract deals with the beginning of the final stages of the Third Moroccan Crisis.

THE TIME HAS COME

19211stand2ndbanderas6ei.jpg

Heroes... the Moroccan socialist needs our solidarity

We have watched Frenchmen oppressed.
We have watched fellow leftists murdered.
We have watched a Revolution be all but strangled in its cradle.
It is time to stop watching and to take action.

What free man has not heard of the terrible insult being forced upon France in Morocco? As if the suppression of the Moroccan worker’s voice was not enough, the threat of war against any state that recognises the legitimate Casablanca government is a calculated attempt to provoke conflict with our labourers’ republic. It is time for Frenchmen to stand up and, if the Germans long so for conflict, give it to them. Our liberating fire shall pour across their borders and not even the most terrifying of reactionary ‘wunderwaffen’ shall douse it. Our Moroccan brothers shall be freed. The German worker shall know the paradise of the Totalised state. The world shall see what we, the proud standard-bearers of the new France, are capable of.

We are ready. Our soldiers are ready. Our thousands of volunteers in Morocco are willing us on with one voice every day to take more direct action against the oppressive tyrant in Berlin. Each day the treatment of Moroccans, Chinese and – worst of all – our fellow Frenchmen in Alsace and Lorraine grows worse. Our fellow workers in Italy took action to free their brethren from the Papist yoke. Our Comrades in Britain know that all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. [1] For too long the people of France have watched as evil occurs before our very eyes.

The time has come for action. The time has come for war.

[1] It is amusing to ponder what Edmund Burke would think of his quotation being appropriated by French Revolutionaries.

Well. If the Sydnies (EvErYwHeRe?) are smashed, all will be fine.

Time to start the final step towards World Revolution!

Thank you for explanation and additional info, Meadow and Leviathan07.

It seems that French are willing to use Moroccan issue as an excuse for war with Germany...

Hehehe, Heydrich the victorious footballer. Sounds like a line by Bernhard Gunther.

It is amusing to ponder what Edmund Burke would think of his quotation being appropriated by French Revolutionaries.

He's probably rolling in the grave, cursing the new "sans-culotteism" of the Gallic garlic eaters.

Comrades, it is with pleasure that I can present a complete PDF of The People's Flag thus far. It features Volumes I and II, some minor alterations, and all the International Interludes that have been produced so far. It can be downloaded here, so if you feel like reading through it (without pictures, alas) on an iPad or just on a clean white background and no forum-y clutter, do take a look.

Please revive this Meadow, this was one of my favourite AAR's. The sheer amount of detail is stunning and i loved researching the different people you mentioned.

Well, it's been over a year since I updated this but I'm considering going back to it. There's a war to write about now, and those are ever so interesting, after all. Would there be interest if I did start updating again?

Indeed.

It's curious. I was thinking about this AAR a few days ago...

Yes. I for one am very interested in seeing more.

You mentioned you wanted a hand on the Icelandic campaign back on AH.com. Would you like a hand or are you okay on your own?

edit: Oh and I definitely want to see more of this....

I'd give my right hand for this to continue. You inspired me greatly for the fleshing out of India's timeline in Kaiserreich with this AAR.

I would like it so much that I made a poster in the honour of Comrade Mosley.
