Wait hang on...

With that brief campaign over it was time to do a bit of moving, tweaking and assessing before I ruin someone elses day.

The 1éré Armée was redployed along the Swiss/Italy border as well as becoming the unofficial occupying force. This move should also help spread out the Italian forces along their border.

14bm3d2.jpg

Examining the Italians lead me to look at what he Germans were doing along our border. They'd moved away from the Maginot Line but stationed themselves in a place that would probably cause some problems. Extending the line is an option but a quote "The side that stays within its fortifications is beaten." said by Napoleon lingers in my mind. I would have to do something nifty in the north if the Germans were still there.

10ej6sk.jpg

The Winter War has begun...in the Summer. What I would like to see in an update is the AI considering the position of their troops before they start a war as it is pretty certain that there is not much by Finland. A side note, I've sent the 5éme Armée, which was helping to guard the Italian border on the coast, to Dunkerque for embarkation. I've also noted I can declare war on just about anyone now.

30th July 1939

Madame Claudel, a voluptuous journalist with short blonde hair, scribbled down the Présidents answers with great speed in her indecipherable short hand. She reached her final questions but not were all answered.
"So how is the campaigning going?" she asked confidently.
"It's going wonderful." Lebrun beamed "I've doubled the size of France and with Switzerland surrendering..."
"I'm sorry, I meant your election campaign." She interupted. Lebrun paused for a second looked off in the distance and looking back at Claudel he asked,
"What's the date today?"
"July 30th." Lebrun looked back into the distance then quickly glanced at his watch.
"I'm terribily sorry but I have to cut this interview short. I have a meeting with... the campaign comitee." Smiling courteously, he called Noirtier to show her out and lied when he offered to continue the interview at a later date.

No sooner had the door shut he picked up the phone dialling furiously he called his politcal analyst to meet him immediately. Which was just what the analyst did. After a meeting lasting almost three hours he understood what he needed to do. Flandin was going to get some good news and probably look normal again.

Its election year! Oh joy, and looking at the state of things, things could be improved. Thus a new Foriegn minister and some spy work are in order. My party is the most popular but with only 18% the next one below me is the RAD a left wing radical at 17%.

11m6ssl.jpg

iyj11l.jpg

2j4q3vb.jpg

Meanwhile since I have an excess of officers I've shut down the officer training schools (I'm sure its pissed of someone in my country) and reduced the espionage just enough to give me 2 extra technologies to research; Destroyer and Light Cruiser Escort Role.

and now for something completely different...

Denmark

As I mentioned earlier sent the 5éme Armée off to Dunkerque to prepare to be loaded onto transports. I think the title tells you where they're heading. Since Denmark is a small country and having numerous spies and time to kill, I sent off a carrier group to go do a little spying a week before.

29zcwf7.jpg

I had orginally estimated that they had 8 infantry divisions and 1 HQ. However later I found that they had 4-5 brigades in addition. I note that their small navy has a heavy cruiser which was mighty tempting for my carrier fleet.

So August 15th rolls around and war is declared. The first wave is made up of 2 infantry, 1 motorised and 1 light armour divisions.

1xynpx.jpg

The next day my CAG launches a port strike but mysteriously the crusier is no longer there.

zu5r4m.jpg

Later that day as for some reason my fleet returned to port, what I can only assume is the russian navy is spotted. I can only wonder why they are there. (Yes I know I've set it to intercept, that was when i spotted the Danes at sea but they rtb'd even after I changed their orders.)

wijyh3.jpg

At the end of the day the cruiser returns to Copenhagen and it turns out there is in fact 2 of them! My planes get to work.

178jtg.jpg

On the 18th the rest of the 5éme joins the fight (1 inf and HQ) and immediatly go on the defensive. The next day Aalborg falls and the supplies start coming in.

qsnlll.jpg

By the 24th the Danish Navy is made completely ineffectual by constant air attack. At most these planes would go on to take 5% casuaulties.

5d9i15.jpg

The next day brings good news! Our first "naval" victory. I use quotation marks since it was all down to the planes.

rksga1.jpg

The next day can be summed up by this "What the hell Finland? Aren't you already at war? Wait? Didn't you mobilise earlier?"

23kb0vd.jpg

After browsing the history a little I learnt they surrendered and began remobilising 16 hours later. I also seem to have a gap in where I forgot to take screenshots, but I did take notes.

29th Denmark have lost all but 1 TP and a cruiser, they are very close to sinking.
30th Danish Navy Destoryed
3rd Sept Navy changed to convoy raiding duties

During that time the army pushed the Danes off the mainland and began island hopping. As the army began attacking the divisions that had retreated I move my navy on the 9th to block any retreat to Copenhagen. The battle ended on th 15th, the plan worked.

10mss4w.jpg

9ggcpe.jpg

With their army destroyed there was only 1 division left to worry about but still managed to last 8 days against a force 4x its size.

10mmw3k.jpg

22kysk.jpg

With this surrender I also gain Iceland and Greenland. There are no resources or factories over there but it would provide a nice naval base. The new IC allows me to order 3 divisions. Agrivatingly during this time my party has gone down to 17% after it went up to 20%. Meanwhile in Africa...

The Begining of the Middle

This is another one of those imbetween posts where not much happens while I build up and show whats been happening with world between the end of the last most and the May 5th 1940. The next post I promise will have a war but I won't get round to that till later tonight maybe.

During this time the allies have brought in some new family members.

25g5d9k.jpg

x1boup.jpg

I'd though everyone had gotten the memo that Europe was being divided up, evidently not.

w01a1l.jpg

At the start of October I started to be on/off being influenced by various minor countries in all factions. As soon as one stopped another faction would counter. This was nice since it meant I drifted just far enough away so the UK would stop trying to invite me back in for awhile. However this meant I was being spammed every 1-2 days. (note in this picture, I am not being influenced by Sianking, I just had the SU selected at the time).

28rmz49.jpg

In November I got the option to ban the Communist Parties (which didn't exactly remove them, just reduced them in size), the only other option would give me +3 neutrality, couldn't have that now could we?

30krtwl.jpg

The Marine Corp had finally found some decent roads and reached the coast not long after this screenshot. They were later transported to Dunkirque.

33y4cqv.jpg

Just incase things didn't goto plan I saved the day before the elections and waited to see if I would have to reload and use an event to stop all elections, Lebrun was going to be Empereur damn it! Fortunately this was not needed, but a reshuffle of my ministers was not welcome but I restored them to their proper positions. Annoyingly I had lost my +10% IC guy during this brief period, costing me time on some of production. There was also more good news as I gained 6-8 more Generals which were much needed and were immediately given commands.

2a6wo7r.jpg

Belgium seems to be the only allied country with any balls when they landed on their own soil in Brugge with 6 divisions. I sent my carrier group out to get a better look.

574pj.jpg

2uqdwlf.jpg

A week later it was all over.

5zh54.jpg

Communist China has expanded to somewhere around 15x its size.

e5ofh3.jpg

Unfortunately I've had to cross off another country off my list. Yugoslavia seems to have upset the Italian plans of controlling it themselves.

iee5ht.jpg

jturn7.jpg

After that nothing much happened. During this time I've built a few factories to exploit some resources and it has been noted that I have no oil resources aside from conversion. During this time my military has expanded and is continuing to expand.

Army: 229 Brigades -> 267
Navy: 56 Ships -> 62
Airforce: 11 Wings -> 14

Norway and That Country I'm Damn Glad it Finally Died

So before I move onto Norway lets get the other news out the way...

Belgium seems to have lost all of the remaining intelligent generals in its failed offensive when it tries it again with one division against 6-7 German divisions supported by CAS.

2mhynht.jpg

The Allies continues to expand while the Axis does not and That Country may have become aware its the next target.

dyvog5.jpg

zkk7lx.jpg

USA still thinks I have unlimited IC in producing supplies.

2qbd379.jpg

The first revolt appears in Spain, however there may have been some confusion as to who they were.

15x27nt.jpg

v3gk1w.jpg

Right with that over, lets roll over to May 12th 1940 shall we?

First off, two landings, one done by 4 inf divisions in the East while 4 Marine divisions land in Oslo.

9r0h7t.jpg

10zb90w.jpg

TBH I should have expected this... they also have no defence so I sent the carrier to deal with them while that landing was scrapped, fortunately the transports all survived. It was only then I noted that Norway only had two VP's, both on the coast. I should have noticed that from the start.

2emcxmw.jpg

My carrier intercepted the small fleet soon after the transports fled and the first true naval battle took place. Both destroyers were sunk for no losses.

2i9la1y.jpg

5 days later, on fresh transports, the infantry divisions from the failed landing stroll into Narvik.

28qq1q9.jpg

141pelu.jpg

With an hour till surrender, the Norwegian Navy is forced into its last stand after being ejected from Narvik. A battleship fleet was waiting to meet them.

And that was the end of the 7 Day War. The next war will be in the post after this one :)

3.2 cont.

Between May 19th and August 6th a few things were pushed around, deployed watched (like the Belgiums idiotic second attempt). The Marines were soon transported away from Norway with 5 divisions of infantry left guarding the ports and vp's. They were sent to Beirut and were soon followed by the veteran 1éré Armée. The Maginot line was again thinned by this movement but the Italians had sent the vast majority of their troops over to Greece so a 1 division line watched each other. I also sent a battleship fleet to Beirut to support the marine landings.

August 6th 0400, I declared war and I began to give orders to the 1éré. Here is the reaction I had (without the heavy swearing), "OH DEAR GOD THERE'S NO SUPPLY!"

241m2dz.jpg

Fortunately the marines still had some supply and began landing in Istanbul.

2h7jtli.jpg

For a brief moment there was some doubt as Turkish reinforcements threatened the landing. But bringing out the Battleship fleet to provide shore bombardment certainly helped.

34j62a1.jpg

Considering me the greater threat than the Soviets the Turks moved along the Syrian border. I could all but watch with no supply to attack or to prevent them from taking a provence.

eiw7ic.jpg

Before I could block their advance they cut off both of my armoured divisions. With more swearing I brought in the airforce to try and buy time.

2qn0gsx.jpg

fu6cqr.jpg

Frustrated at this situation I examined the convoys and was extremely annoyed to find that I could not change how much supply was sent to Beirut.

vqo1sg.jpg

After 18 days, some good news finally came. Fortunately Turkey is a country that doesn't require many VP's, only 3 in fact to be taken for surrender.

m97dl1.jpg

Despite this, for fear of encirclement I order a retreat to a better position.

5fjbdj.jpg

After letting the marines rest for a few hours I immediately order a breakout but meet resistance. I feel I should mention that my tac bombers after barely 4 days of constant bombing had already killed 1000 men. They would later anihilate an entire division and badly maul 4 others!

157c5kp.jpg

2a6pbar.jpg

Later I order another retreat to a far better position, strangely, despite encircling 2 armoured divisions, the Turks never attack them.

dh8fh5.jpg

Quite suddenly my breakout is in jepardoy and make attempts to save it as half the Turkish army come to fight me off aswell as no supples in Istanbul too!

5fitm8.jpg

35191xf.jpg

zkpqo5.jpg

With the division saved the situation needed improving.

2pshh7t.jpg

And the improvement came, in the form of a new marine division and 1 Medium and 1 Light armour division and set them to work clearing up the West of the two divisions preventing me from sending all my divisions to the Eastern front.

20f6g4.jpg

qz2bfk.jpg

With the second VP down, I had a choice of where to go next. By this time I was fed up with constant supply issues I take the fast option and send a marine division to finish it up by landing on the south coast.

o7iyoh.jpg

2i9p0le.jpg

And just like that, it was over. This was the war I hated most but amazingly I didn't lose a single division despite being encircled twice. The Turkish army is certainly larger than I remember it being. During this time there was an investment in new supply technology and a project that will take a total of 27 months to appear The next update may not happen till monday if I'm away from home all of tommorow. I shouldn't be but you never know.

I'm asking myself why Portugal is still there...

Because Portugal is with the Axis.

The only countries are unaligned in Europe are, Blugaria, Romania, Sweden and Finland. Sweden trying to align to the allies which means I may need to act on them sooner than I planned.

Sweden

As usual the news in short from the last war till January 31st.

Strangely after I loaded my save again after playing absoloutely nothing the first time (I did this to say who's still avail to invade), the second time again without playing I was presented with this message, Bulgaria knows I'm coming.

28jl9aw.jpg

The Allies continues to grow and they seem to let anybody in, I'm starting to believe that the Axis is now that exclusive group you always have in school while the allies are the ones who they sneer at.

2dt91zo.jpg

The Spanish have rebelled again and they still seem to be confused as to who they are...

2jd5r91.jpg

34isk04.jpg

Japan has finally begun actually fighting the war after almost 3 years, as Shanxi exchanges hands again.

33k3t5g.jpg

And now for the main news... Heres what it looks like the day before war is declared.

3495hfk.jpg

2zdsvf8.jpg

The invasion forces:
1st Motorised Corp - 1 LA, 1 MA, 2 Mot with AC attachements.

9éme Armée - "Cavalry" division (1 Cav + 1 Mot brig), 2 Inf, 1 LA

3rd HQ (Norway defense) - 3 Inf divisions to provide distraction.

Air - 3 Int, 4 Tac, 2 Nav, 2 CAG

Navy - 2 BS fleets and 1 CV fleet.

The landing in the south west was far more difficult due to the coastal defences being much stronger. The landings on the southern tip went according to plan and stopped the enemy retreating.

28ip9tt.jpg

33cc6s7.jpg

2mi4ygm.jpg

2430pq1.jpg

Early on the navies clash with losses on both sides. Both the fleets involved were sent back to base for repairs after the larger ships recieved heavy damage.

20pc3rr.jpg

With the encirclement in the south working successfully I sent the last division over to repeat the same tactic.

The state of the war after 10 days:

n69fdw.jpg

11rwxs9.jpg

2zoelaf.jpg

The Swedish army is suprisingly passive in the north and the troops who were supposed to be defending began advancing slightly, except by Narvik where there is a VP that could be captured easily if I made any moves. I begin the breakout virtually unopposed.

20prar8.jpg

k68t0.jpg

Stockholm, after being bombed constantly for almost 2 weeks gives up without a fight and excellent news is recieved in Paris.

wc25pd.jpg

nn5lqu.jpg

With my navy taking damage from being outdated I've begun some projects that I hinted at in my last post. Firstly, after improving the technology I ordered a new Carrier, Joffre, its CAG had been ordered before this project started but the carrier will take a total of 27 months. Meanwhile to try and satisfy the need for new ships, an escort carrier was ordered that will take 17 months. 2 Light cruisers and 2 or 3 more destroyers are on their way too. I'm not ordering the other heavier stuff due to the tech not being high enough for their to be a vast improvement, but they will be developed sooner or later.

Improvements to infrastructure, ports and flak have been built as well as some more factories exploiting more resources.

I am going to have to invest in some Garrison units soon as I've had to leave corps to provide supression. In Turkey I've left my marines as well as the 1éré Armée. While this time I've had to leave another corp to sit in Sweden.

Bulgaria and Romania

While I continue bringing French cuisine to Europe here are some developments. Firstly more countries join the allies, not that it matters, they are all on the list somewhere.

qp1i4y.jpg

24fmop5.jpg

Belgium has somehow found more fresh troops and attempt yet another landing in Brugge, which ultimately fails due to superior German forces.

Okay, come on... again?

syrqz8.jpg

12th July 1941, I waited for this date to deploy some extra forces but here we are with 8 divisions (armour, marines and motorised). I know from experience that Blugaria does not see Romania as much of a threat and seeing virtually no threat by Turkey, its safe to assume that the majority of their forces watching the Axis front.

k3t37q.jpg

My light armour is very fast and quickly took their only port and the first VP.

2a4z8lh.jpg

mra4r8.jpg

The Bulgarians seemed to try and encircle me, so I brought up another marine division although they did not take the oppurtunity to cut me off.

1pe7a9.jpg

This is what I hate about invading Bulgaria, onto Sofia then!

qq4849.jpg

55m2yf.jpg

30wkrrk.jpg

All 5 people living on Iceland take this time to revolt. I had been getting a lot more people rebelling this year but this one is the most inconvienent, I dispatch the newly formed 2nd Marine Corp to deal with them via Greenland before the declared independence since there are only 3 provinces.

65c1mh.jpg

A few more pictures...

ibe5xc.jpg

2ahzj8w.jpg

wb7vnq.jpg

And that was that.

Romania, ever since a large chunk of it was annexed by Hungary there are only 2 VP's that I have to deal with. Since Romania always has 95% of its military watching the Soviets, I've made a decision, to have an armour coloumn to charge in before they get the chance to stop me, I've also got bombers bombing their route.

2s0oi15.jpg

23j3680.jpg

Resistance is suprisingly high and the Romanian airforce (unlike all previous opponets) quickly took out my bombers who were forced out of the war.

vq35zo.jpg

Attempts to come from behind were cut short when they encountered armour divisions.

2pq5jpx.jpg

After a weeks fighting the second VP is captured.

I wonder who's next on the list...

I've tried to look into what that orange blip is but my navy isn't telling me squat.

Iraq maybe = or Nepal? lol - maybe Haiti?

These Allies are very enthusiastic!

Useless but enthusiastic.

Whats funny is how its always the minor countries are enthusiastic, besides pretty soon I think I'm getting closer and closer to attacking the axis, since they're on the same continent (not including Yunnan but they don't matter, they can be the leader of the axis.)

Oh god, bandwidth exceeded? I will try to fix this but since I don't have money to spare atm this will take some time. New post coming but first things first

Too bad,

maybe you could try and use different sites, but I don't know what effect that will have on the picture quality and size. Hope you get it right, I like this AAR!

With that inconvinience over...

Part 3.5
The End of Operation Freehand

This will be a very short post with a very short war (shortest yet!).

Allies expand, Germany is becoming very lonely since it has not called its allies into the war.

flztig.jpg

That orange blip turns out to be the Dutch... I seem to have a moment of deja vu.

6h7v39.jpg

11kfmsg.jpg

Despite being the highest threat to Moscow, the Soviets have almost completely moved their troops away from our new borders.

260ecr7.jpg

eivb5u.jpg

In other news, a new round of Generals became availible. A large number of garrison units were deployed in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, freeing up 2 Corps. An Infantry Corp was formed and a new armoured Corp will be completed soon. There was some infrastructures, ports, fortifcations and airfield improvements completed during this time. My espionage has been set to 0 and pumped into Officers bringing 40.6 each day as I had at 157%, I had fallen down to 118% which the large expansion. My advancements in Destroyers and Light Cruisers are nearing the point where they are advanced enough to put into production.

I had thought I had taken more pictures... but oh well. The war started at 0200 27th April 1942, I had been ready to invade since January 30th but I had learnt from the Russians that a winter offensive in Finland isn't a good idea. Also since all 3 VP's were on the coast it would not take long to win.

This was the situation after a total of 90 hours fighting (3 days 20 hours).

34plwee.jpg

t02p6p.jpg

And that concludes Operation Freehand. Now for a massive build up. Next update will have details of the current state of the French forces and what is planned.

Also since I have changed which website I am using the size of the images have increased. The older picturesI had to download from my old host (all 220 of them and replace each one... took almost 3 hours!) which is why they are much smaller. I will try to resize them...

What Do We Do Now?

"So who else can we invade that no one will care about?" Lebrun asked his ministers as they stood over a gigantic map with stacks of papers listing resources and factory outputs of various nations.
"Siam?" Gamelin suggested.
"No... too far, even if Japan is being beaten up by the Chinese, I don't think they will like that. Their army maybe doing poorly but their navy would deffinately dominate us." Darlan replied.
"What about the carribean?"
"Hardly worth it we'd gain a factory or two at the most... I wish Luxembourg would just give up and join us." Bonnet, the foreign minster, sighed.

After a long silence of everyone picking through a list of countries that were no more than a mile across, Lebrun asked, "What is the state of the armed forces?" Gamelin immediately began to flick through a particularly large stack of files and eventually handed a summary page to Lebrun.

1zpsmzk.jpg

Auriol then handed him another piece of paper listing the units being planned.

1265ugg.jpg

"How long till we can build some more advance destroyers and light cruisers?"
"Not for awhile, we are still finalising some details and we expect we will have them built late in '43." Auriol added.
"Flandin, do you have any recon photos about the troops along our frontiers?"

Flandin, who was now looking like himself again although still pale, placed several photographs on the table and began to explain them. "Since we annexed Finland the Soviets have started to see us as a greater threat than before, thus they have begun returning the divisions they had moved from the Romanian front."

4vo00o.jpg

"Since their war with Finland a few years ago, they've left a large number of divisions watching the front and they seem to be leaving them there."

v2sgns.jpg

"Meanwhile, the Italians still watch us and Germans are busy guarding Belgium and Holland after several fail landings."

1zznxbb.jpg

11r4nxv.jpg

"The Slavs grossly outnumber us along our border but the Hungarians have yet to react to Finlands defeat, we think they still view the Soviets as the greater threat."

3340mft.jpg

"Oh and this just came in today..." he said pulling a piece of paper out.

1zgx2tj.jpg

"We need to do some building up."
"Sir? We have almost 400 brigades now! Why would we need more? We have already conquered most of Europe virtually unopposed do we really need to go on?"
"Yes." Lebrun said as he looked out of a window. "Tell me, have any of you ever been to Berlin?" Only one of them raised their hand, Bonnet, the rest stayed motionless. A few of them caught on to Lebrun's thinking and waited nervously for him to confirm it. "I think we should go visit them... in a tank maybe?" Lebrun smiled.

*I realise the pictures are smaller than before, I chose the wrong resize option, trust me, next time will be better!
