Re: camouflage.

Most major navies used them in WW2. For the WW2 use of camouflage paint schemes I think the best idea is to just reduce the visibility of all the models from 1941 on. For stealth and decoys will use other concepts such as surprise, max/min positioning, etc.
Existing b_u8 is available only on capital subs and really should be the ability to hit land targets just like a land based missile. The real solution would be a command to enable nuclear subs to carry flying bombs and flying rockets that actually works. The only thing I can represent now is shore bombardment. For the subs, all subs can lay mines, release torpedoes, and fire anti-ship missiles. But I only want capital subs to be able to launch aircraft and attack land targets. Therefore, new brigade b_u11 is added to represent sub-launched anti-ship missiles, and UACV is tacked onto the end of b_u8 since only capital subs (SSGN, SSB conversions, etc) should be allowed that.

For the large missile carrying subs,
allowed_brigades = naval_spotter_s
allowed_brigades = naval_mines
allowed_brigades = naval_torpedoes_l
allowed_brigades = b_u8 # (Tomahawks, UACV, etc)
allowed_brigades = b_u11 #(anti-ship missiles)

For the normal attack subs,
allowed_brigades = naval_mines
allowed_brigades = naval_torpedoes_s
allowed_brigades = b_u11

As we discussed the naval torpedoes_s is only for the regular subs since they are optimized for that role. All other torpedo carrying ships have to use naval_torpedoes_l which cost more and are just slightly less effective. On the other hand a large sub in WW2 carrying mines AND torpedoes would be deadly.

I actually view the 1918-1930 era as an addon. I've got no intention of including that period in the main mod because the technologies won't fit on the screen. IMO the only interesting play for the period would be the Chinese warlords, the Polish-Soviet wars, the Russian Civil War, and maybe some colonial wars. Subs and deck guns would not be relevant for conflicts during the time period. I'm mainly interested in filling the time with logical research that takes up the correct amount of time. Also sub guns became a thing of the past during WW2 because of the fact that sub designers realized that increased underwater speed was a greater benefit than a deck gun. I'm interested in tacking on a few things to represent 1930-36 only, with some key features being the right to choose land doctrine, the implementation of the 5-6 early naval techs that most majors have in 1936, development of planes--biplane to mono, etc, and also fix the issue whereby mountain and marine troops are not available until 36-37 despite being in use for hundreds of years.

@IceHawk
There are 5 brigades that are in vanilla that are not in my mod:
1) nuclear propulsion capital and escort b_u2 and b_u3 (separate ship with nuclear propulsion is better)
2) camouflage b_u6 (will be eliminated completely with 0.19, was never officially implemented anyway in vanilla) The camo brigade b_u6 will be recycled to become the special Harrier carrier Skyhook unit.
3) trucks
4) motorized engineers
AOD came up with the last two AFTER I already used the b_u numbers for something else, which is why they didn't make it into my mod. To me they sound silly compared to some of the ideas we came up with. What do you think? Should I recycle the b_u2 and b_u3 brigades to cover this or just forget about them?

They do sound silly.
Re trucks. Past 1975-80 or so i cant think of any nation in the world that would still use foot infantry en masse. The ones that did were third world anyways & probably haven't researched ~1975 infantry anyway. :) Since resource events start to add very large amounts of oil discoveries post WWII foot infantry should gradually have their speed increased to represent first, partial motorization, than by ~75 should be fully "truck" mounted. ie replace WWII motorized infantry in speed & softness.

As Ive mentioned before, but just so everyone is clear, motorized infantry becomes wheeled APC infantry post ~1960 (LAV/BTR etc so increased hardness). Mechanized infantry begins to use infantry fighting vehicles around the same time as well (BMP-1 etc so more hardness & hard attack to represent ATGMs on IFVs).

Militia should also receive 'technicals' by about 1990 so any late/post cold war militia should be fully vehicle mobile. This in fact represents recent ~2005-7 Sudan-Chad conflicts where pickup/truck mounted militia would raid each others capitals, REALLY well!!

Re: motorized engineers? Why arent they included in the engineer brigade tree first of all??? Doctrinally they should be followed by armored engineers (UK Centurion AVRE, US M728 CEV, Israeli Puma Engineering Vehicle etc)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Military_engineering_vehicles
Both motorized engineers & later armored engineers can be included in current infantry tech, without new tech trees as theyre relatively minor technologies.

Air Technology/ Doctrine Tree Part 2

#All in all the aircraft techs progressively increase aircraft munition delivery to ground & air targets, making air power super deadly in the XXI century. At the same time increased build costs realistically reproduce current prohibitive airpower cost, drastically lowering the amount of available aircraft - which is also very realistic.

Mig-23 original unit cost: US$3.6 million/$6.6 million, # built: 5,047
F-22 original unit cost: US$159.9 million, # built: 187

14 more air technolgy doctrines + suggestion for escort fighter brigade revamp.
Next part will be for air doctrines screen. Currently looking at ~35 techs for there.

IMPORTANT:
#This will slghtly clash with the current escort fighter brigade tree. Decoy EW (Minature Air Launched Decoys) should be upgradable to all aircraft incuding multi_role jets, not only bomber aircraft. I do however agree that SEAD aircraft etc make sense, however tail guns in 1990s are completely obsolete. Therefore, for escort fighter techs I suggest:

1964 SEAD Fighter #F-4 Wild Weasel basically
sead.png

1973 EW-ECM/SEAD Squadron #F-4 Wild Weasel + EA-6/EF-111 basically
jammerescort.png

1982 EW/SEAD/Decoy Squadron #+ADM-20, ADM-141 TALD, later ADM-160 MALD
decoyr.png

1991 EW/SEAD/Decoy/JSTARS Squadron #+E-8 JSTARS
jstars.png

2001 EW/SEAD/Decoy/JSTARS/MALE UAV Squadron #+ Global Hawk/ long endurance UAV basically
malez.png

#These model continued evolution of SEAD aircraft (Wild Weasel aircraft),
#Electronic warfare/Jammer aircraft (EA-6, EF-111, EA-18, Su-24MP, An-12PP, Yak-28PP, AN-26EP, numerous others which provide standoff radar jamming)
#Airborne launched decoys (ADM-20 Quail, ADM-141 TALD, ADM-160 MALD which were used Very sucessfully in 1982 in Lebanon & 1991 Iraq air war)
#JSTARS aircraft (stand-off A2G radar providing very detailed targeting picture)
#Finally Medium Altitude Long endurance (MALE) UAVs providing real time ISR & targeting picture ie. Global Hawk

#All of these realstically upgrade bomber aircraft. As such, it makes sense to use these as current escort brigade tech. If later more brigades can be added to aircraft I can certainly add them & re-write the current air tech tree.

It's going to take time to implement these so no rush. Will consider upgrades to the regular engineers, and not implement the motorized engineer brigade at all. Will work trucks into a hardness concept. It sounds like you agree that they are silly concepts to waste a brigade on. Yes I agree that motorized infantry becomes APC infantry (armored wheeled vehicles) and mechanized becomes IFV infantry (tracked vehicles). Will probably keep existing names since I'm not sure where the cutoff occurs.
If there are a lot of specific EADS technologies will eliminate tail-gunners as an unimportant thing done by one nation. Unfortunately the escort can only be attached to bomber aircraft for now, so for multiroles, interceptors and the like it has to be worked into the stats for the unit.

If there are a lot of specific EADS technologies will eliminate tail-gunners as an unimportant thing done by one nation. Unfortunately the escort can only be attached to bomber aircraft for now, so for multiroles, interceptors and the like it has to be worked into the stats for the unit.
What I suggested above was removing the MALD tech into the ECM/EW air tech tree as its usable by all nations. Tail gunners are used by all tac/strategic aircraft between 1920-1960 anyway so there is no point including them - they feel like a filler. Instead the escort fighter tree slowly becomes a2g support tree.

First SEAD fighters aid in penetrating SAM defenses.
Then Jamming/EA fighters WITH SEAD aircraft strengthen bomber penetrating capabilities
Addition of air launched decoys (NOT MALD but ADM class ie Bigger) mentioned above in the 1980s increases this even more
JSTARS (basically a heavy airborne SAR) assets help direct a2g squadrons improving their surface attack
Finally MALE UAVs provide constant on station surveillance, helping again with surface operations

All of these are a2g oriented so using them in the escort fighter tree doesn't ignore the multi_role/fighter units.
Secondly they are stackable not replaceable ie
SEAD escort
SEAD/EW escort
SEAD/EW/Decoy escort
SEAD/EW/Decoy/JSTARS escort
SEAD/EW/Decoy/JSTARS/MALE UAV escort

Here we are simulating continued complexity of air-to-ground operations first of all. Second as they are additive & dont replace each other, that would represent continual improvement but also heavily increasing cost - representing cost of large scale air power. Very few nations can afford to have tactical/strategic/naval strike airwings with EW/EA, UAV, SEAD assets. ie USA/China/Sov-Russia/some NATO

Most nations during late Cold War & after in fact simply purchase Multi_role fighters instead, which as they dont use the escort unit, are less effective ground attackers but also much cheaper.

Hope that explains it relatively well.. I can provide links & more detailed explanation if it is necessary.

I'll give it a shot now to the countries that used Brazilian equipment for a more complete Models.csv. A lot of Middle Eastern countries, Latin America and, from the top of my head, Italy.

Edit: just for clarification. Later models of the Armored Car are supposed to represent what exactly? The description says AFV in the 70s, than tank destroyer and finishes with multipurpose AFV. What are we talking about exactly? Bradley IFVs? HMMWVs Armored Cars? Strykers APCs? All of those are AFVs... I got confused here.

There could also be theoretical Axis victory Post WWI (probably Ger wins some African colonies, keeps navy, annexes parts of Belgum (puppet) & France, Belgian Congo (modern Zaire), the Azores Islands, Senegal, and Tahiti annexed as is Poland & Ukraine under the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk) or more likely WWI stalemate choices (Ger keeps her Navy/Army, Poland as puppet state, looses colonies). Austro-Hungary & Ottoman empire still fall apart in both scenarios with early Austrian annexation a possibility.
Communist revolutions of the early 1920s (Iran, China, Germany, Finland etc), Anglo-Irish War... The period seems quite fascinating in & of itself really! :) I presume the end goal is a 1918-1930 scenario & 1931-2024 GC?

Also sub guns became a thing of the past during WW2 because of the fact that sub designers realized that increased underwater speed was a greater benefit than a deck gun. I'm interested in tacking on a few things to represent 1930-36 only, with some key features being the right to choose land doctrine, the implementation of the 5-6 early naval techs that most majors have in 1936, development of planes--biplane to mono, etc, and also fix the issue whereby mountain and marine troops are not available until 36-37 despite being in use for hundreds of years.

In regards to deck guns I was not talking about simple 75-100mm guns which were common to most interwar - early WWII submarines. Instead I was mentioning the specialized heavy submarine monitors developed in the late 20s/early 30s. These would theoretically be used in early WWII period. I do agree that late WWII theyd become overshadowed by say submersible sub carriers etc but nevertheless enough of them were built in real life to classify as early production models.

These carried heavy 6-8inch gun batteries for convoy raiding & escort dueling instead of a single pipsqueak deck gun . :) :cool:
The only reason more were not built is that they were clearly commerce raiders & sub commerce raiding was forbidden under the 1922 Naval Treaty.

Hi,
i find this mod very fine. Good work keep on.

But when i´m trying to play it, i´ve got a bad error.
Something is wrong with the unit orders. As example. I cant rebase planes.
Or give attack orders for ground units.
All i see is a blank order menu.
Is there any way to fix this?

Version 1.0 updated to 1.06b2 + cwe mod

nothing else installed

Did you go to page 50 of the thread and copy paste the NEW misc.txt file designed for B2?
@ IceHawk
changed major effect for the Soviet Missile Cruiser/ Carrier techs to blueprints on all relevant carriers/ light carriers/carrier air groups to include up to Kitty Hawk carrier, and CAG up to 1980. They get half the blueprints with the first step and the remainder with the second step.
Otherwise there's no explanation as to how the USSR so rapidly got the know-how to build aircraft carriers. In the game they would probably not have the technology to build squat for carriers prior to that.
This mirrors the process that the USA and Japan took in the 1920s to develop aircraft carriers by converting heavy cruisers and battlecruisers.
Suddenly giving them an advanced special CAG when they probably could not have even built a WW2 carrier would IMO be inappropriate.
Because of the combined effect of the after date bonus and the blueprints they would develop modern carrier capability quickly and that would be the reason to choose that path instead of the Harrier carrier approach.

Working on rough Soviet & White Russian ORBATS as well. This will allow nomonhan to catch up to the air tech tree :D

Love what I'm seeing, can't wait for 0.19, any ETA?

As an aside has anyone thought about doing a fictional scenario to use all this lovely tech, such as Dale Brown's Dreamland books?

Just imagine Megafortresses etc. fighting the PRC in a Sky Masters scenario, although I wonder if the AI is upto it.

Just wanted to say that this is a really awesome mod, and to ask if the scenarios and files in the interwar folder are functional? Can I safely overwrite the original files?

Also, at least in the Fatherland scenario, Hitler dying as head of state doesn't remove him as chief of the army

Thanks, everyone.
RE Darkest Hour. I do plan to port my OLDER classic CWE to Darkest Hour, but not the new one. The reason is that while Darkest Hour and Arsenal of Democracy each gave some features that the other one doesn't, DH at present (this may change) does not have certain features I believe to be critical to the modernization of the mod for AoD. The most important of these features is the slew of user defined brigades.

I believe, nonetheless, that both AoD and DH are good products and that the serious HOI2 gamer will want both. DH will give you WW1 and probably later on the Russo Japanese War as well, whereas I know of no plans by AoD for the same, and I personally have no intention of making a WW1 scenario--only POST ww1.

Now for the data. Below is a rought outline of Soviet & White Russian/Allied positions at on March 1919. Should serve as a relatively good guide for their approx positions

Provisional Government of Autonomous Siberia
#Omsk
#http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_Regional_Government
#http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Kolchak

"Kolchak had put around 110,000 men into the field"
Some of the wiki links contain white army generals names. Additionally to units/forces mentioned in the rough ORBAT, ~1 division should be hiding out with western forces in the north. Over all, White Russian forces outside of south (Don) & east (Omsk) are very small.

Allied Intervention Forces:
50,000 Czechoslovaks (along the Trans-Siberian railway) #Already included
28,000 Japanese, later increased to 70,000 (in the Vladivostok region and north)
24,000 Greeks (in the Crimea)
40,000 British (in the Arkhangelsk and Vladivostok regions)
13,000 Americans (in the Arkhangelsk and Vladivostok regions)
12,000 French and French colonial (mostly in the Arkhangelsk and Odessa regions)
12,000 Poles (mostly in Crimea and Ukraine)
4,000 Canadians (in the Arkhangelsk and Vladivostok regions)
4,000 Serbs (in the Arkhangelsk region)
4,000 Romanians (in the Arkhangelsk region)
2,500 Italians (in the Arkhangelsk region and Siberia)
2,000 Chinese (in the Vladivostok region)
150 Australians (mostly in the Arkhangelsk regions)

The allied forces for the most part provided supplies to south Don army & extracted the Czech Legion out of Perm region. After their retreat the small White Russian units were left to fend for themselves to the Soviet forces.

Japan being the only major combatant involved. They were trying to create a Siberian 'proxy' at the time but failed. All other a forces for the most part did not do combat operations against the Soviets.

Sov ORBAT: ~47 infantry divisions by 1919. Obviously much more than the White Russian forces.

"These partisans were especially strong in the provinces of Altai and Yeniseysk. In the summer of 1919 partisans of Altai Region united to form the Western Siberian Peasants' Red Army (25,000 men). The Taseev Soviet Partisan Republic was founded south-east of Yeniseysk in early 1919. By the fall of 1919, Kolchak's rear was completely disintegrating. About 100,000 Siberian Communists seized vast regions from Kolchak's regime even before the approach of the Red Army. In February 1920, some 20,000 partisans took control of the Amur region."

###Total of 145,000 militia (~14 units should be created in siberian region around this time.

Thanks! A lot to digest. Just as a clarification, 1919 play is intended as a Grand Campaign modded to the CWTTE with an optional end point of mid-September 1931 and a mandatory endpoint of January 1, 1936. For continued play beyond those dates into the WW2 era it is intended that the OOB be extracted from the savegame, and patched into a copy of the regular scenario, replacing existing countries as needed.

French 1919 ORBAT is 100% done - Ill post it with others as to not spam too much.

Re 1919-1931/36 tech tree.
Armored Cars are needed - we had cars back then :)

Heavy tanks can also be implemented (1919-1920 tech)- ala French Char 2C (which was supposed to be used for the 1919 campaign), German K-Wagen, British Mark VI

Another doctrinal tank would be the immediate postwar tank ~1920 tech as well. Here were talking about Medium vehicles like the "Liberty" Tank Mark VIII, or more mature German designs like Sturmpanzerwagen Oberschlesien http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmpanzerwagen_Oberschlesien

These were slightly more mature & much more importantly more reliable designs - Most first generation designs would simply break down on the way to the battleline :) Not much of a tactical breakthrough... (therefore higher movement speed?/org/morale)

First reaction.
Just got space allocated. For the escorts, the first two can remain as is. For the last three there will be a jump in the models to prevent upgrade of the second generation Wild Weasel, since air-launched decoys are an entirely new concept. Models 3 and 4 have to continue to have a range limitation, but the last model with UAV (Global Hawk) can be free of such limits.
As for the availability of such systems for multirole fighters, unfortunately the executable is hard coded to prevent this. So what I've done is to slightly upgrade the surface defense of both the multirole and interceptor for the last 5 models so that it is slightly greater than for an unescorted strike fighter but less than for an escorted strike fighter. Multirole aircraft IMO primarily appeal to smaller countries that want a one size fits all airplane.
Tail gunners would primarily benefit a strategic bomber, so I've upped the air defense stats of some of the later models instead.

RE: 1919 tank. I was unaware of the development--had simply assumed a certain level of technology to represent "Great War Tank"-1918. It could be inserted but that's not a high priority right now. I've done some testing by using the 1919 "On the Brink" scenario and found that the overall research speed is about right, so I'm not in a hurry to polish the 1919-36 part right now.
RE: armored cars
Right now they are enabled by 24 tank, giving a 25 armored car. Do you want an earlier model?
