DeathFromBelow. This mod needs tons of minister files. I'd like to emphasize European and Latin American countries but if you volunteer for anything I'll let you know if it has been taken care of.

Slevin_Kelbra,
Thank you for the link,The opinions are of course of the Federation of Atomic Scientists. In my mod, however, I'm going to concentrate on flashpoints.

o ok well i still think that through out the cold war there at least should be a high threat of a nuclear attack maybe not a full out nuclear war as i may hinder the game a bit i don't know well good luck with the mod....

One of the issues is that I believe the HOI2/AOD engine is not really capable of doing an all-out nuclear war, but only the limited type of nuclear warfare of the 45-53 period. A massive nuclear war would in all likelihood have to be scripted. Final decisions will not be made until a 1962 scenario is created. Only by then will countries have the required technology and nuclear warfare could be properly tested.

Yea thats Good i was think if it would be a massive nuclear war it would be by events too.

Well i was woundering did you edit the leaders of the Alliances/Fractions because i was woundering how to do that if possible i playing an Abyss game and would like to change the leader of an Alliance to someone else also can you edit the alliance period like change the name of the alliance?

The names allies, axis and comintern are hardcoded. You can have additional alliances but they will not be named or scored. You can also change the displayed names and icons. The easiest change for abyss/armageddon is the alliance leader. All you need to do is edit the scenario file.
Here are the entries in preglobalwar
axis =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 2 }
participant = { UPR }
}
allies =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 1 }
participant = { USN }
}
comintern =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 3 }
participant = { UES }

}
just change them as you see fit.
example
axis =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 2 }
participant = { UIR }
}
allies =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 1 }
participant = { UCH }
}
comintern =
{ id = { type = 15000 id = 3 }
participant = { UAP }

}

I don't know if this is the problem with the mod or game.
But if I have a large production list, it starts to screw up, i.e dates go haywire and when I scroll through the production list the game will crash. I've never encountered this with the standard AoD and this extension is the first mod I've used.

I may be causing the problem, as I cheat (for the fun of it and to fill my time up) so I have all the technology and resources.
Looks like I'll have to code an application that lets me view the production queues and fix the problems (and hope they don't come back). It's just strange I've never had this before until now.

They are not, I changed them in my mod. ;)
Really? Enlighten me. Did you change the DISPLAYED name strings (which I know you can do) or the ACTUAL names as coded in the scenario file? Because I'm under the impression that if you change the actual names, nothing will be scored on the closing screen and events that depend on the axis, allies, or comintern having X number of VPs will not fire.

Bigh RI Joe,
Start the game. Click "Single Player". Then click options. Make sure you click on "Use scenario info". The end date is now set by the scenario, and in mine it is 2025.

Niffy, try posting a link to your savegame before the crash.

Slevin_Kelbra,
All the names of countries are found in worldnames.csv, except that U70-U99 and the armageddon fantasy nations are set in boostertext.csv. Both are in the config folder.

I can do that. Here is the file
http://localhostr.com/files/6197c7/niffy-ColdWar-crash.zip
This host is perfectly safe, I use them regularly.
I'm playing as UK (ENG)

As far as I can tell the crashing is occurring in the *_development = { sections.
province_development = { @ 90314, 90290
Here is the development at 90314
province_development = {
id = { type = 4712 id = 1344720005 }
name = "1 Air Base"
progress = -533563264.0000
location = 0
cost = 3.0000
date = {
year = -5649
month = january
day = -3
hour = 0
}
manpower = 0.0000
close_when_finished = yes
waitingforclosure = no
total_progress = -25333298.0000
size = 15
done = 1
days = 316
days_for_first = 32
gearing_bonus = 0.0020
speed_step = 2
type = air_base
}
As you can see the progress and dates seem to be going a bit wacky.
I've had this problem in another save game where the production list was crashing, but that too was a big production list. I've never had this in the normal game before.

I'd say there was an overflow somewhere because the limits of the program were exceeded. People who develop these programs anticipate certain limits for things so if you do something that exceeds the developer's limits, that causes a crash. So I'll look at it if I have time but likely blame the crash on your too big production list. There is one point, however. Sometimes errors like this occur from events, and when they do I need to know, because that means the event must be rewritten with less code.

Yes I know about the issue of "safety". A lot of "site adviser" software automatically warns about filesharing sites because of some people who put illegal and virus-laden files on these sites. There's nothing wrong with the sites themselves. The site owners take down the bad files when they are notified of this, but there's a delay in which you might get one of these files. Common sense says that any file with no executable code, such as the ones typically uploaded by HOI2 users, cannot contain malware.

hey can you tell me what file the leaders of the Alliances was in i guess who didn't see the post above but i just remind you. I couldn't find it and i even use the search button?

Thanks for your reply.
I hope one of the developers see this and sheds some light on the limits.
In the mean time, back to coding a little tool to keep fixing this so I don't have to keep searching the file for the problem (and because it uses my time which I have endless supply of being an unemployed graduate).
Once the tool is done I'll probably play about with finding out what is too long for a production queue. If I get my tool done I'll then get it to create some production entries to save me time doing it by hand.

Crash when researching INF '80 model

Hey there!

First of all: Keep up the great job!!! Awesome mod for an awesome game!!! :D

Now my problem: Whenever I'm researching the INF '80 model the game ends with an error message. Anyone else experiencing this? :wacko:

Hope you can help me with this...

nathanyael,
would suggest uploading a savegame as I'm unable to reproduce the problem.

POLL:
The Russia file is a somewhat important file. Of course it is a very important country today, but I'd like to see that it is built upon a strong base of real people in the world war 2 era. Unfortunately it seems to be largely a fantasy file. In rough terms I have found that:
There are only about 20 real, verifiable and appropriate people in the files
About half a dozen are inappropriate, e. g. Yezhov, who would be dead before Germany got around to releasing Russia.
About another 15 to 20 died before 1936. They will be removed in my mod, period.
Now here's the question: The remainder are unverifiable and there is evidence to suggest that their names were made up--in many cases google searches point exclusively towards paradox, while in other cases it appears that the person was famous for something else and the name was just picked on as a good sounding name. In other cases it looks like a synthetic combination of two names.

Proposal A--leave them in for gameplay reasons but identify them with an asterisk
Example: Feliks Romanovsky-*

Proposal B--delete them but make the existing real ones left occupy several ministries so that there will still be a choice of traits
Example: Felix Yussopov is a real and verifiable minister, assigned to minister of security. He can be given other jobs as well.

I should have no trouble filling the fascist slots with Russian Liberation Army people. They'd only be released in a German victory anyway, so the fact that they were all executed in 1946 is irrelevant.

If anyone can verify any of these suspected fakes as real people, and give a death date (I prefer the exact date but the death year is good enough if you cannot find the exact date) I'd appreciate it.

Vote please A or B.

Looks like they used real people names and put another first name to make-up most of these ministers. Plekhanov was a socialist dead in 1918. Kaledin a white cossack general commited suicide in 1918. Makaroff, a famous admiral from the beginning of the century. And I don't know anything about Milyukov Oleg but Milyukov Pavel is a suitable choice of foreign minister for Russia...
