can you please add a suez crisis scenario begining in 1954 or 1955, because cold war starts getting hotter from that point

The Suez crisis was 1956, and a 1956 scenario is my goal.

If I may ask, is a full play using the 1936 scenario an intended function of this mod?

if yes, does the scenario continue after 1964? I was under the impression 1936 AI shuts off after 1964.

The end date is set by the scenario file and I modded all the GCs to end on Dec 30, 2024. I don't know if the AOD AI shuts off after 1964 or not. If it does, that would be a major issue. Someone please find out.

Edit: My impression is that the issue is that the event files controlling the AI expire at a certain time. My first look at AOD shows that they end after 1999, so you should be good at least till then.

Hey great mod but there are a few ideas that I have. Now that we have all this extra infrastructure capacity, you should make some sort of national highway program event for countries like the US and Canada. Also I think that Czechoslovakia shouldn't be communist right from the start. It should be a social democrat which gets a coup event in 1946. This is because the czechs were trying to be a bridge between east and west, until the ruskies killed that dream :rolleyes:, so there should be some way to reflect that in game and maybe even give them the option to go to the Allies in some weird situation.
I hope these suggestions help.

OK write up what you propose. Tell me who the leaders should be (cabinet by minister numbers) and when the coup occurs. I'd say two things, however:
1) The chance of an ahistorical outcome shouldn't be more than 1-2%
2) The allies should actually spurn any Czech efforts to ally the West, because it would be a violation of the spheres of influence agreement. If this is allowed then the Soviets should feel free to intervene in the Greek Civil War and support their side. The spheres of influence agreement came about because the communists were on the verge of taking power in Greece, and Churchill demanded that they be in the Western sphere of influence. Stalin agreed on the condition that as a quid pro quo, the Soviets could do what they wanted in Eastern Europe.

I'd very much like some infrastructure programs to use up the IC, but would like some pointers on how to write the ai files--how to get a country to build infrastructure instead of units. If this is done then additional events could simulate random deterioration of infrastructure which would have to be repaired. Too many units problem solved once and for all!

i know suez crisis is 1956, but i wanna start a year or two earlier, cause i'm playing as egypt, i wanna see if i can beat israel, france, and britain

Present plans for the Suez scenario are to start July 25, 1956, the day before Egypt nationalizes the Suez Canal. That will give you a few months to deploy your forces. If you want to prepare earlier then I'd suggest loading up in 1945 as Britain or someone else, wait for Egyptian independence, reload as Egypt. You won't have that much to do so the years will go fast as other countries fight the Korean War. Your major decision is whether to intervene openly in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. (Historic choice is "send material and volunteers").

Go to any nation's AI file and ctrl+f: military = {

There you have the build priority. You can also change this in an existing save game by editing the build priority there instead. Could also tweak the protect/befriend status for various nations to reflect the cold war reality.

EDIT: Also, why don't you take a look at some of the stuff that was made in this mod that never got finished, but still got a lot of nice content to offer, including lots of events (lots of flavour but also a few practical ones, such as events regarding the limitations on the German and Japanese military) from 1950 a few years onwards: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=292

Maybe you can even do something with their scenario if you feel like it.

What I'm trying to do is to order the AI to build fewer units overall and to concentrate on infrastructure. I cannot find any parameter to do that.

I'm already looking at the Cold War Mod's stuff and have permission to use their material.

AFAIK that ai command (infra) isnt in yet. unfortunately the only way i found was doing this via events.

force_ic_until = 1940 It only builds IC until then?
ic_end_year = 1948 It stops building IC that year?
IC_provs = { insert whatever province ID:s you want the AI to build IC in }

sounds like what we want, for IC at least, but I can't find anything about infra either.

Unfortunately infra is what I'm looking for and it seems that the program cannot handle that at present. So the only thing I can do is to force the construction of things like radar stations and the like and experiment with a consumer goods need modifier, which could go up over time with technology.

I'll look into the Czech events and will get back to you asap. One other thing you might want to do is make retooling decrease slightly over time with techs to show the rise of the military industrial complex. Also its pretty annoying gameplay wise to have to wait 80 days to make convoys which only take 40 something days to complete.

I agree with the retooling time idea, and when I get the chance I plan to modify the effect of some of the technologies (automation and computers) to do this instead of an incessant research bonus. One idea to reflect the 'military industrial complex' is to add this effect to 'defense electronics'. The supercomputer techs will be modded to primarily increase secret weapons research instead of all research. Probably the nanotech things at the end can do the same things.

Another question--does anyone favor renaming the ideologies, such as
NS-->Absolutist
FA-->Authoritarian
PA-->Paternal Autocrat (unchanged)
SC-->Conservative
ML-->Centrist
SL-->Liberal
SD-->Social Democrat (unchanged)
LWR-->Radical Socialist
LE-->Communist
ST-->Left Totalitarian

i don't mind if you change them, and HURRAY, i'm free to help you with your project now, but unfortuntley all i can do is research, since i'm not really that good at programming, i can try though, by the way, i noticed East Turkestan, and i presume a lot more countries, can't build industry or infrastructure, any reason(s) for that ?

I don't want too many units spammed out over some 60 years time. For large countries that will be some trick. For medium sized and non-belligerent countries such as Sweden there's the peacetime IC mod. For small countries I think the best answer is very limited IC (2-4) plus enough free money so they can maintain themselves. East Turkestan would get a little bit more with control of Urumqi. But with just 3 border provinces they are not going to amount to much. That would be historical.

If you're "only good at research, then please help me out with dates of any events you consider important in the 1950-60 period. It is likely that I know of many of them but might have missed a few. Also dates of major flag changes 1945-2010.
As for flag changes I know of
Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania 1945-1947 and 1990
Yugoslavia--change to communist
Republican Italy
Egypt 1952
Syria and Iraq 1963
Canada 1965
Zaire about 1970
Libya 1977
Iran 1980
South Africa and Congo about 1995

Have I missed any important ones (will not try to reflect minor flag changes--only major ones)?
There are other flag changes that accompany regime changes with a new tag. I'm just referring to flag design changes without a new tag.

Nomonhan, question regarding division types, since later in the Cold War both sides heavily mechanized their forces, for instance the Soviets stopped using foot infantry and mounted all their infantry divisions in BTR's and BMP's, how should that best be represented? It doesn't seem practical to make only Mechanized Infantry, because then your army is 100% hard units, without soft infantry.

Also, I'd be happy to assist you with research for those events.

The distinction between "hard" and "soft" units does not apply in AoD. Mechanised divisions have ~50% softness, which makes them pretty much ideal for combined arms all on their own. For spearheads, Armoured Divisions can still be a good idea due to the "roll over" bonus they get (at the price of being a bit more fragile from a STR perspective and needing more fuel and supplies).

Edit: sorry, I should say my comments apply to vanilla AoD - I'm not sure how softness, oil and supplies needs are changed by the mod.
