Merely encouraged
The rules of haiku,
As per Wikipedia
Are given below:
The correct haiku:
Five, seven, five syllables
Spread over three lines.
Plus, if possible,
A kireji splits it up,
Two poems from one
Seasonal kijo:
This word evokes poem's soul
Spring, fall or summer
Don't worry too much;
For the sake of the story,
I break them sometimes.
