Why THAT idea?![]()
- Naval ideas were (obviously) out, as were trade/colonial ideas.
- In line with the overall trend, ideas of tolerance were removed from consideration.
- On the other hand, stab costs were almost non-existent, so no CAD, and it was too early for the other 2 conservative ideas to have any effect.
- Bureaucracy would have helped, but minimally at best.
- Military ideas were the main possible alternative:-MP/army limits were pointless since Bavaria was (and still is) nowhere near capacity in the first place.- More directly, cultural tradition was conspicuously low for Bavaria, with constant wars and a lack of merchant presence. An ability to recruit 4-6 star diplomats would have helped (and continue to help) in bringing down Bavaria's infamy. This would be more of a long-term benefit though.
- The negative event for Eng.Corps tends to make it unattractive.
- Battlefield Commisions might help, but Bavaria was still small enough for straightforward AT gain anyway.
- The main alternative would probably have been Military Drill at this stage. Eventually chose not to take this due to an ability to rely on vassal armies and larger numbers overall.
I continue to be pleased with our progress, and happy we haven't conquered the world yet.![]()
I'd like to see us expand east and take on the Ottomans and the Golden Horde, but that's just me.
Perhaps if I get another turn.![]()

Fortunately or unfortunately, Philipp's preference for sending others to fight his wars has kept him quite healthy - or at least alive.
His heir, however, has not been quite so lucky. But that's a few updates away.![]()

Eastern Discontent, Western Blues
God's will would have to wait, for the Hapsburgs were, rather understandably, not feeling too happy with Philipp at this time.
Meanwhile, in the east, some rumblings of discontent.
With the last war, Styria and Tirol had been liberated from the Austrian yoke, and placed under the widening protective umbrella of the HRE. Across Europe, the respect for the institution was at an all-time high.
Having carefully considered the option for some time, Philipp decided that the time was now ripe to risk some of that authority to reform the workings of the HRE. An Imperial Diet was convened.
As the Diet deliberated, Bavaria found herself drawn into yet another war, this time beyond the boundaries of the HRE.
As Bavarian forces readied themselves for the long march to the eastern end of Europe, an echo sounded in the west.
Meanwhile, the deliberations of the Imperial Diet had come to an end. Careful preparation by Philipp and his diplomatic corps had paid off handsomely.
With success achieved spectacularly in diplomacy, Bavaria now awaited word from the forces sent forth to engage the Turkish armies that had driven deep into Europe in the past few decades. Even before Bavarian forces had reached the battlefield, though, it became clear that the rumbles of discontent in the east had become increasingly significant.
With Hungarian patriots already ravaging Turkish forts, Bavarian forces were directed to suppress the Bosnian vassals of the Ottomans. General Satzenhofen continued to exhibit his competence on the battlefield, albeit with the odds very much in his favour here.
From other corners of Europe, miscellaneous reports were filed...
while even further east, a great empire continued its expansion.
Satzenhofen had successfully suppressed the Bosnian forces, and General Moshamm soon also came into contact with the Ottoman forces. The Turkish army led by Barbaros found themselves outnumbered, and soon outmaneouvered as well.
Adding insult to injury, the Ottomans found themselves being attacked by an unexpected adversary.
The brotherhood between Muslim countries was, it seemed, no stronger than that between the Christian countries.
Closer to home, the Bavarian economy continued its march towards greater efficiency...
as the Hapsburgs managed to soothe their injured pride somewhat.
Pressure builds on the Ottomans...
as the echoes from the west increase in volume.
Two great powers, one each in the east and west of Europe, find themselves facing into the abyss.
Beyond Europe, other great empires continue to make their presence felt.
With rebels now running rampant in Ottoman territory, Philipp decides to recall most of the Bavarian presence in the east. At home, reforms continue apace...
though not always without incident.
The logic of God's will almost immediately becomes clear...
and the next target is marked.
The Ottomans continue to die from a thousand cuts.
With Hungary leading the alliance, Bavaria's Turkish adventure is over for now. As Bavarian armies march towards their next objective, a crisis develops:
What lies in store for Adalbert?
Poor Adalbert!
I don't think he's gonna make it.

Well, maybe we get a better heir than Albrecht.
I think he can make it!

The HRE, once again
Adalbert survives, as the medicus proves his effectiveness.
The Turkish collapse continues apace...
as the next Bavarian campaign commences.
Perhaps the next stop is to the south.
In the west, French echoes of the Ottoman empire grow increasingly louder.
For now though, Bavaria's concern is with Poland. And, also, with the Austrians, who have clearly decided that God's will is with them.
Apparently not.
Further in the east, portents of a potential juggernaut.
The first gains in Polish lands come...
as Polish troops, fresh from their victories in the east, return to defend their territory.
Polish joy is short-lived, however, as the numerous vassal armies of Bavaria flood their lands, and Satzenhofen continues to enhance his reputation with more battlefield glory.
While Polish find themselves increasingly on the back foot, Bavarian interest in Polish territory extend no further than the initial mission objective.
Mission accomplished, Bavarian forces return, awaiting their next instruction.
As I believed a heir survived! Yeah!
Poor Ottomans.![]()

Ending the vassalization of French minors isn't a hindrance to France, it's a free province.
Nice. On to Tuscany?
Also, no territory from Austria?

How are Balkans looking like?
The Reign of Philipp Wilhelm I von Wittelsbach
Italian holiday
The English expand their French holdings, as the French fall yet further from grace.
Meanwhile, in the east, Turkish dreams of conquering the City of the World's Desire suffer an ignominious setback...

as the Russian situation continues to develop in yet more strange ways.
A foreboding doom settles upon the city-state of Venezia...
and other European powers waste little time in putting them to the sword.
Bavarian forces, heading to Modena for a Mediterranean holiday, find time for a little diversion along the way.
Arriving at Modena, they proceed with their main recreational...mission.
Milan, in a rare show of Italian unity, decide that Bavarian merchants are no longer welcome in their centres of trade. Despite the fact that Bavarian merchant presence barely exists outside the borders of Bavaria at any rate, Bavarian diplomats are angry - no, outraged!
Ragusa, having proved herself a loyal ally of the Venetians, find that sometimes loyalty comes at a price.
Venice, bereft of allies and condemned by God's representative on earth, seek redemption in the Bavarian embrace.
On the domestic scene...
while the Russian scene continues to turn up strange situations.
The Italian situation, centered around the Pope himself, deteriorates...
and Bavarian forces continue to enjoy their Italian holiday.
