spam in my thread, wtf?! ok here are the SOV techs http://www.sendspace.com/file/hlb8ky as gamefront doesnt work again.
Thanks a lot for the gift, now I used them with my PoS testing platform; btw, in your original TT file, Konev and Chuikov have both Sergei Sokolov's pic...

and just for fun: "Admiral" Pukhov http://wwii-soldat.narod.ru/GALER/ARTICLES/p_3.htm , a police officer from Belarus, late 50s :D bottom of page
Once again, this new find of yours does confirm the quality of your research work (as you said yourself most people don't realize it's the hardiest part of this mod) and the vast improvement of the original database; I was very disapointed when I saw that DH kept the same HOI2 vanilla's leaders, only adding better quality pics for them...

another event is needed for the SPR-SOVs Eremenko ("Chato") and Batov. both ITA and GER get sth for their involvement in SCW, the SU should get sth as well, like
In addition to leaders promotion, doctrines gain and other benefits, perhaps such event should sleep the Tank divisions models (or giving severe penalties to tank model) because of bad experience of tank warfare in Spain (and later in Finland), allowing only tank brigades until Germany's successfull Blitzkrieg campaign...

thanks for the hint with the TT pics. i code the SOVs very very fast just to get through and try to fix my own mistakes afterwards. such feedback is very welcome!

yes, well right now i do think the best way to improve things is to focus on one country and if unknown better delete than keep the guy. real ones can be found sooner or later. i maybe wont do this with france as i dont know them well, but definately with UK and USA.
as for DH well its a HoI2 game which does everything for gameplay. thats an option, probably a good one if you want to sell video games. just leave the DB as it is if you have probs to do it yourself, i'd say. its a hill of work and unlike icons and stuff never really done, even for GER ww2 leaders i still have 50 or so to be done.

well right now i would say i want the SU to be a bit tougher and not weaker (eg Lazar K. as Admin genius).. how would you code that?

on the other hand i have two new ideas:
Order 227

Stalin gives liberty to churches
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Orthodox_Church#Stalin_era
After Nazi Germany's attack on the Soviet Union in 1941, Joseph Stalin revived the Russian Orthodox Church to intensify patriotic support for the war effort. On September 4, 1943, Metropolitans Sergius, Alexy and Nikolay had a meeting with Stalin and received a permission to convene a council on September 8, 1943, which elected Sergius Patriarch of Moscow and all the Rus'. This is considered by some as violation of the XXX Apostolic canon, as no church hierarch could be consecrated by secular authorities.[25] A new patriarch was elected, theological schools were opened, and thousands of churches began to function. The Moscow Theological Academy Seminary, which had been closed since 1918, was re-opened.

one could argue that both are basically part of the GPW events and so already in.

and a 3rd one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1936_Soviet_Constitution

Order 227
A must have event for SOV indeed! then how to best model this? morale reduction + organization increase + dissent? btw penal battalions could be a cool addition with DH 1.03, both for SOV and GER (I loved the Sven Hassel's books)!!

I already have this event in PoS which uses the old Compendium mod. I suggest you write your own first, then we'll compare both.

one could argue that both are basically part of the GPW events and so already in.
As per the purges, the Great Patriotic War would be more fun as an event chain.

Dissent reduction for sure and slider move one step towards Democratic? or was it just propaganda?

well the idea is that Stalin puts a lot of activities in raising morale and discipline and is playing the patriotic card. so after the speech, order 227, the churches - if he did all that - the SOVs should get a bonus for their troops.

Excellent idea, I like it!

i would like to give the SOVs more MP, but not via this event. i think the russian soldiers would come anyway, no matter if Sergei has his throne back or not. better add some MP points on the map, IMO.

as for the evts, i added a final event for the effects of Stalins stuff. it loads without problems but maybe take a look. note: do not take the purges, i still move people around so its currently not compatible with the released leaders list.

EDIT: had something else in mind with Matsuokas trip to Berlin and Moscow (JAP - SOV/GER), Prince Chichibs visits the Nuremberg Rally 1937 (JAP - GER)

Another interesting character for JAP-GER relation events is Baron Hiroshi Ōshima. Personally I love prewar diplomatic events, so any new one is welcome!

Otherwise, I'm currently playing as SOV with your files in my PoS test game; Germany attacked me at the historical date, and I had only two FM (Boudienny and Vorochilov), no full general and only a handfull of LTG to lead my armies, since I don't use autopromote...that was both fun and historical! I managed to hold the ground, loosing only a few provinces until I was able to promote new generals with the XP they gained (remember PoS uses a new command system with both Army Group and Army HQs); and now it's spring 1942 and I already defeated Finland, Romania and Bulgaria, and my troops have conquered nearly all Silesia (Koenigsberg is holding with 12 divisions trapped there)...

oh, cool! please report if you encounter any shortages (commando leaders, panzer leader, etc; also TTs).

i wont do to much for the cold war era, but there are a few new admirals to come, so SOV could challenge the allies with a few submarines at least.

as for Oshima, he is in as a pic only. its an original colour shot from the berghof and i used this as a template for my colourizations. otherwise not that much progress here. still have a hangover. SOV is more than 900 pics, though.

as for the soviets and their ranks: this is a bit weird compared to the rest, at least after 1940 when they changed their ranks: divisions were lead by colonels, corps by MGs and armies by LGs. i still made this very formal, just sometimes the ideal rank is higher than the historical rank (in GER its mostly the opposite, where the ideal skill is lower than the highest rank).

oh, cool! please report if you encounter any shortages (commando leaders, panzer leader, etc; also TTs).
In my current test game, I have about 250 divisions (Germany has about 150, including allies such as Hungary and Slovakia) so i need a few dozens (30-50) more to gain complete superiority; it's now August 1942, I'm stuck at the border of Hungary and in the Balkans where I liberated about a quarter of Yugoslavia including Belgrade, all of Albania and continental Greece...Poland liberated too except a few southern provinces and also the Baltic coast up to Hamburg!! Troops next to Berlin but the GER ai is doing severe counterattacks with panzer divisions, so I need to reinforce my army there or risk losing control of the province...

- Commando leaders: I have 13 mountain, 7 paratrooper and 6 marine divisions with 9 spare leaders (including Ozeryakin in B&W!) available
- Panzer leaders: I have 24 of them in command of armored divisions and a few others leading motorized divisions with tank brigades, and 63 spares; sadly I lost a good one with PL, DD and LW in a big battle in Poland...
- Oh, and also 17 NKVD Security Specialists for pacifying the conquered provinces...;)

Oshima as a possible FA/NS foreign minister? as for SOV, I guess it's nearly 100% complete, wow!

yes, the last land leader is Makarov http://generals.dk/general/Makarov/Petr_Grigorevich/Soviet_Union.html and about 10 admirals which i'll most likely replace. then a handful of ministers and thats it. after this i can add one here and one there like i do with GER but the basic stuff is done.
problem with some of the missing admirals is that i do have the pics since years, just no idea who that is http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=151928
the first one with the beard was labeled as Admiral Stepan Kucherov in vanilla but proved to be ColGen Vorobev http://generals.dk/general/Vorobev/Sergei_Ilich/Soviet_Union.html (i still have him as an OG admiral - but this one was a nice fake)

as for Oshima i'm more than certain i'll need him one day, i did very little with politicians for JAP.

ok iirc i added two more and Ozeryakin is out, that seems to work.

well not all were SPs, for instance this guy http://generals.dk/general/Saraev/Aleksandr_Andreevich/Soviet_Union.html really fought, others were involved in the Partisan movement, or border troops etc - there were some Gulag commanders in vanilla which i deleted all (3, iirc)

ok, cool. thanks for testing!

Btw a little suggestion: maybe add (VDV) to the name of Paratroops commanders? just for fun!

Babadzhanian actually.

Ah ah, I need to review your sidenotes for sure! and I remember I gave that trait to all of Kunadam's hungarian gendarmerie generals too, so Hungary should have about a dozen of them!

ok, cool. thanks for testing!
Testing is not over, I want to see all yours leaders for 1943, 1944 & 1945 too! btw I remember I wrote once an event for Shaposhnikov's retirement because of illness (sleeping leader, minister and TT); do you plan to add other minister change events for SOV?

benden said:

well then you can test long, iirc the last start dates i added (maybe not in your version) was 1960 for admiral Pilipenko (also UKR) :D.

benden said:

that is the big horror of modding SOV indeed, these purges. there is the doownfall of Kulik and the death of Stalin left, the latter a bigger one again. there are also some ROA guys to be added (mostly in UKR). i noticed i still need a chemistry TT for SOV. as for Shaposhnikov: i would need another TT then, maybe the already mentioned Babadzhanian http://generals.dk/general/Babadzhanian/Amazasp_Khachaturovich/Soviet_Union.html ?

oh, that will take a bit, lol. if then one of the big Anglos i think. nothing with bigger sleep leader events like FRA or ITA, although they get a bit here and there.

Hi everybody,

Sorry intruding in on your thread. My name is Steen Ammentorp and I am the owner and webmaster of Generals.dk which I take you all know  I just want to say that I am pleased to see that you have wound my site useful. I originally sign up here years ago when I played HOI myself and I since forgot about it 

Anyway I have a request for you all. Should you while using Generals.dk encounter errors or omissions – there is bound to be one or two – then I would appreciate it if you would let me know by mail or PM here.

And the site is of course still active. I am hoping to launch an update very soon with additional information on several thousand generals already listed, adding more than 200 new generals and putting a face on several hundreds.

Regards
Steen Ammentorp

hello Steen,

i think we know each other a bit from AHF. i use the nick "Matteus" there. as for corrections, as far as i remember i did that some years ago (Sugiyama - Terauchi picture confusion).
i still keep the source images of all paintings and b&w pictures i make, so in case you spot somebody in my packs you need let me know and i'll be happy to contribute.

EDIT: preview

there are a few people in who are counterfactual, ie what if ww2 is not over in may 45, for example Oberst Werner Baumbach and some others for GER.
these people have to match some conditions to be in:

- rank of Oberst / Standartenführer / Kapitän zur See in 1945
- not being in allied / soviet captivity in 1945
- not passing away of natural cause before 1955
- OR receiving a promotion to flag rank in west germany (eg Otto Kretschmer as Flottillenadmiral)

an example is Oberst Hans von Schlebrügge http://www.ritterkreuztraeger-1939-45.de/Infanterie/S/Schlebruegge-Hans-von.htm or Oberst Ludwig Hörl http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de/bilder/hoerl.jpg

critical comments and suggestions are welcome

sorry i have trouble with my internet at home and cant reupload this one until its fixed. anyway, uploading this one lasts more than 2 hrs, so hopefully you'll have more luck this week, or ask in the AoD thread, i think a few might have it?
otherwise i'll have to fix my connection anyway, just the uploading may take a while.

anybody else having trouble?

It finally worked this evening, wew! thx a lot!
