As I have been saying for long, the mechanics of the game will be different, even if the basic building blocks will be mostly the same (prestige, stability, trade efficiency, etc).

When I was a child CIV1 was awesome, but the older I get the more issues I had with the whole CIV series. Then I found "Call To Power 2" - that was the game that solved question "Which CIV is better" once and for all for me.

But anyway almost all strategy games have one huge problem - everything depends on your first turns. You must colonise as fast and as much as you can. If by the time the free land ends you have more cities/planets than competitor - you can relax - you WILL win sooner or later. EU3 (especially with MM) is better in that regard - stability and tech cost scales with your size, free land is limited and expansion there is limited and expensive. Conquering land from other countries can bring you more problems than benefits and become huge moneysink if it is populated by wrong culture and religion nomads. And let's not forget about Administrative Efficienty - just brilliant!

In other words the main demand from the game for me is "continuous challenge". Because of that damned missing feature there is almost no finished games for me. At certain point I realize that everything I do next is just a finishing off helpless enemy - there is no interest in it at all, so I start another new game.

But certainly "continuous challenge" is not equal to "same challenge". Let's take Morrowind (fixed challenge)- starting game at "megahard" difficulty makes it very hard to start. But once you get several levels, find (steal) good armor - there is no more challenge - even at "megahard" it is a cakewalk. Vanilla Oblivion acts the opposite - whatever you do - enemy match you. So the question rise - what is the point to do anything at all if whatever you do, you get the same result. And then comes OOO mod for Oblivion (continuous challenge) - with your upgrade you gain ability to deal with enemies you were fleeing before. And even lower-level enemies can kill you if you relax.

I liked Civ II more, I found out the AI is really good though it is clouded by the "cheating" part of improving it. Really I've seen the AI in Civ II do coordinate attacks on several exposed areas in the same turn, and I have one time saved up in my mind, when I was moving a cruise missile through a bay that separated my industrial heartland and my capital, and suddenly it spots a neutral transport, and when I checked it was a whole battlefleet and invading task force (two battleships, one destroyer and two AEGIS/ three trasps, loaded with troops) I was taken off guard while trying to grow peacefully. I lost my capital, and two other cities, but finally my industries saved me.
My greater surprise came (yes, there was more) when a small continent on the other side of the planet, in which I had three cities started rioting because I lost my capital, and when I check the citie to build more troops, I see some citizens in black. I end turn since I can't do anything else, and imagine my surprise when the next turn those cities declare independance from me!!!!!!

CIV II HAD COLONIAL REVOLTERS (and I realized after playing it for ten years)

I just wanted to say I've finally gotten around to reading about this exciting project. I just want to congratulate Ubik and the team for "leveling up" and taking this on! You can count on my support and eventual purchase of your new game once available.

I've been playing your mod for several years now and it's the one game I keep coming back to after the newness of other titles wears off. I love your design philosophy and the immersive, deep play with all the interesting, consequential and challenging choices throughout any game session. I have strong confidence in your team and am sure your game will be a success.

Will the plantations of Ireland feature? They're rather non-present in MM and EU3.

That's one of the things that is high on my list. But presently I am taking care of something even more important: The turnip fields in Portugal.

We will see if we have time to implement the Ireland plantations, but I can promise you Magna Mundi will feature proeminently turnips in Portugal. How could that be bypassed?

It is rather specific. But I think it was an important element of British and Irish history. Likewise will the British actions taken to centralise their rule in other ways be featured, and perhaps Ireland and Scotland's roles in various Rebellions in Britain (like the deposition of James II). Perhaps some kind of sysem to model the means used by Powers to further centralise rebellious territories, by importing a new upper class loyal to them (of course the Ulster Plantations are a more special case of cultural change of even the peasantry).

What were the turnip fields in Portugal?

They are all over the place.

In fact we are placed second in the turnip rating inside the EU, following Greece.
Speaking of which, I should not forget about the watermellons placed around Athens.

Oh, just the fact that diplomacy in Paradox games often involves pitching the exact same deal over and over until the RNG gives you what you want. For example, with diplo-annexation, if you see "Unlikely" as the chance for them to accept, it just means you have to ask multiple times until they finally roll a "Yes", rather than change anything.

Sorry if this has already been asked. I skimmed, honest.

So since in MM the AI gets some pretty nice advantages (at least in the eyes of a bad player), will the AI in MMtG get soft/hardcoded advantages as well? I assume you still have no AI ship attrition (or is attrition being completely reworked)?

We are recoding parts of the AI. AI ship attrition will be reviewed.

No Magna Mundi April Fools update? I am dissapointed.
And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.

MMtG was a prank. It isn't really in development at all. Also, shortly EA will announce the acquisition of Paradox Interactive and will force everyone who plays to connect to the internet every 15 minutes to check for authenticity ala Ubisoft. Oh, and all mods will now be discontinued as EA will change the EULA.

    My qestion:
Will there be reasonable cultural assimilations (real life like) in the game or the same thing as in the original MM, where we know it is simply impossible to achieve a cultural assimilation within the games time line, because it takes simply too long to assimilate anything except you are extremely lucky or get an event.
